Those of you identifying as “libertarian” ought to reconsider that choice of a label. Even Ron Paul avoids using it now. Like conservativism, it means absolutely nothing, and has been corrupted by people who claim to be libertarians, but subscribe to beliefs utterly incompatible with liberty.

Well, if they replace ‘I’m a libertarian’ with ‘I’m a fan of individual rights and a small, well-defined state’, then everyone will mock them in short order for having such a long name.

Are those two separate unrelated sentences? Or are you suggesting that not knowing how to operate a computer means that McCain was an elitist? Because such a notion is silly. John McCain is >70 years old. Most 70 year olds don’t know how to use a computer.[/quote]
If you think you can cope without computers in this day and age, you must be high. I’m pretty sure even GWB knew how to type.

My parents are both just learning how to use computers now. They have coped just fine thanks.
Now how would McCains lack of computer knowledge affect his presidency? He might agree with the nonsense the big media companies are pushing…but well… the left is already in the pockets of big media (RIAA, MPAA).
So what other problems would there have been?

Your parents don’t run the country. My bad for not relating what I said back to the topic in an obvious manner.

Damn shame too. Everyone would be better off if they did.

I agree, but if he was the President he could dictate everything, or have someone print stuff out for him to read. He really would not necessarily need to use a computer, unless he was checking out some porn in the oval office.

It would be so inefficient , he would be our done with research by 8 year olds . That is too big of a disability

That’s no even the point. Our country, our economy, out military-supremacy, going forward is going to be based on being an information-centric, information-producing country. Computers are the medium for this, they are what steel and coal were to the industrial era, computers and the internet are to the post-industrial era. It’s bad enough that 90% of Washington is out of touch with their districts. We don’t need a president who’s out of touch with the entire cultural paradigm.
Look at all of us typing a way at each other. This wasn’t possible 30 years ago. Even just 15 years ago it would have been an odd sub-culture. Now any interest you have, you find an online community to support you, and (nearly) anyone you meet, you now have the tools to easily stay in contact with for the rest of your life. How many people have facebook friends they met at a bar or whatever, and in the pre-information-age days that would have been the last conversation you ever had with them?
That’s a real change. It’s a paradigm shift in not only how buisness is done, how wealth is created, but how relationships and social-norms are established. It’s big. Someone who is not acculturated to that paradigm running the country is a bad idea IMHO.

Oh I agree. The problem is you didn’t get anything better with Obama.
When you elect a left wing president they tend to pander to the big media interests. Because of this they support patents on trivial or obvious tasks. This kills innovation. Likewise they support fining an old lady hundreds of thousands of dollars for downloading a few songs. If she had stolen the cds from a store she might get a thousand $$ in fines. So they place copyright infringement above real theft. Don’t even get me started on net neutrality.
You only have to read slashdot articles for a few weeks to see that Obama is bad for the tech industry. Even though the slashdot crowd is majority left-wingers they support Obama in spite of retarded policies on technology and not because of it.
If you only examine the Information Technology industry the left wing politicians (including Obama) are far worse for the country than the right wing politicians.
Which is odd because most left wing people are against all the copyright and patent bullshit.

Not sure why I’m participating in the hijack, but c’mon…
McCain can’t even comb his hair or tie his shoes from my understanding. That’s how bad his injuries were, and the resulting disabilities are. Sure, he didn’t have experience navigating the internet for himself, if that’s what folks are actually worried about. However, he’s familiar with concepts such as email, blogs, news sites, etc. He reads Politico, Realpolitics, yadda-yadda. He does very little typing on his own for obvious reasons, and has always relied on his family, staff, whatever, for dictation and internet navigation. Big deal. What, he’s supposed to able to personally counter-hack a cyber attack on the pentagon? Let me guess, today we woudn’t elect FDR because he wouldn’t be able to Dance-Dance-Revolution?

IMO if you dropped any one in with out the gradual education of the computer, that person would be considered retarded. Look at this board; if some one fails to do their homework they will get flamed. Just think of the repercussions in a discussion that really matters

This was actually the point of teh separation of powers and checks and balances.
Yes, the modern constitutional republic was deliberately designed to be inefficient in order to garantuee that it does no grow like a cancer.
That went well, didn`t it?
I see efficiency as getting the most done with the least amount of resources. Am I wrong in this view?
