I like some RHCP too, but this is definitely a bad one.
Most definitely agree. They lost a bit later in their career, but no denying what they did in the 80s and 90s was epic.
This album is the one that really turned me off of them. It was the type of music I’d be embarrassed playing out loud, and this song in particular was cringy. I also wish Kiedis would let has age show a bit in both his music and looks. It seems inauthentic to try to look and act like a 23 year old when you’re 60 (with the hair dye, hair implants, etc…).
Along the lines of RHCP, a criminally underrated 90s band is Faith No More. They are most known in mainstream music for their late 80s stuff like Epic, but its their 90s stuff that is along the same lines as RHCP with a bit more hard rock emphasis. Angel Dust is such a great album, and seeing Mike Patton live on that tour was so memorable even 30+ year later. Their other albums that followed are also great.
Recently saw ZZ Top and Willie Nelson.
I know Dusty Hill is dead and both sounded past their prime, but it was still cool to see icons sharing a stage.
I saw about 25 years ago with Ray Charles. He was great (but old then), so wonder what he’s like now.
Even compared to 5 years ago he has faded quite a bit. It basically sounds like he’s reading his songs. Kind of deadpan. He looks happy to be on stage though. Guy is 90 and sounds like it.
