Compulsory Physique Picture in Avatar

if, you have the propensity to dish out lifting/diet advice…

and, you are called out by anyone on these forums…

then, you are required to include a pic of you in your undies in your next post, or suffer the ridicule of your peers.

btw, Dr Matt - splain your Avi.

If you recommend ribs then yes.

I think maybe this would be a fun requirement for posting in certain sections of T-Nation. Don’t think it’s necessary for the whole site.

I personally just ignore advice from posters who don’t have pictures, unless I’m familiar with them/ know enough about them to take them seriously.

I listened to Prof X on this site for a long time without knowing what he actually looked like, because he made sense. I will not listen to RogueVampire ever, because he’s a nutcase. Common sense goes a long way when seeking advice here.

Your avatar is awesome Johnny. Don’t change it to a picture of you. This is better.

Let’s get this thread back to us seeing The Bird in his gitch…

Nope.

Will not participate.

Shit

Real recognize real

In terms of lifting if someone has a record of posts that you can tell have been gained through experience and not copy paste then why do pics matter? I don’t know or care about what a lot of you look like but I know which ones know their shit. I never looked at hubs or analyzed avatars…I can decipher a post and tell if its legit or not.

You either 1. Try out what that person says if it makes any sense to you or 2 don’t

Simple

Rock.

you are exempt.

everybody knows that Vampires do not photograph.

mkay?

carry on, folks~

hey remember when every once in a while people suggest that we should have mandatory profile pictures and then people just discuss how they dont want to and some people think its great but nothing ever actually changes?
CUZ I DO!

and carry on…

Vedran Corluka is a handsome choice, OP. I think you should stick with it.

<------ That’s me already.

I’d give your advice a higher precedence than I would a few other people already in this thread, so yep. Not based on your picture, though. Based on the track record you’ve shown with your own training and advice previously given. The picture lets us put an accountable face to the name, as do the videos you put up in your training log.

In some thread recently, I mentioned the idea of twice-a-year mass call-out/check-in, say February and August (every six months) where each member would be invited/encouraged/expected to post a recent photo or video showing that they actually show up at a gym and train a few days a week. (Photo preferred for those with physique-based goals, video for those training for powerlifting/strongman/etc.)

In my opinion (my personal opinion, absolutely not representing “official T-Nation doctrine” or anything), the one thing that should be common ground for every person who signs up for an account on this site is an interest in exercise, more specifically weight training.

However, I’m dead-set positive that there are more than a few forum members racking up high post counts who either simply don’t train on a regular basis or don’t do so with anything that could be called dedicated (or successful) effort, and I find that just baffling. Along the same lines as people choosing to play characters on the forum, rather than talking and behaving like people would offline. There’s having a quirky personality, and then there’s playing a role like this is an old school AOL chatroom.

The personal privacy issue isn’t as solid an excuse as some might hope, because, while I 100% understand the need for online anonymity in certain professions or situations, the simple use of Photoshop-like programs (there are several free online) make it very, very easy to obscure enough to avoid giving away overt identifiers.

For what it’s worth, my current avatar is a snapshot from a video I did this past October, and I’ll be updating with a new/current picture in August.

That’s a great thought. One thread that updates all or most of the legit posters on here. Really like this idea, I know I would be very much on board (even though I haven’t achieved much here yet). Chris FTW once again.

That is not a bad idea. I would definitely participate in those types of threads, even though I have only been lifting for a couple of years and am not yet nearly as impressive physically as the more advanced guys on here, which is why I read the bodybuilding forum instead of posting there. I would definitely have to photoshop out my face and my left arm to maintain my anonymity, though.

It’s not realistic to expect it to ever become “compulsory”. Enforcement, “punishment”, accountability, etc, would be far too difficult to be worth the effort.

Having said that, I’ve almost always had my avatar be a pic of me. Not because I feel the need to, but rather I feel it’s a matter of lead by example.
