I’m from Alabama. We all breath through our mouth. :0
Hey Cav good to see your log still here and you look to be making some progress.
Cav…Cav… Where you at brah?
Happy Thanksgiving.
It’s a darn shame this log hasn’t been updated by Cav in nearly 5 months, this is the most inspiring log on the site.

Yeah I was wondering where Cav is myself???
Uh, hi folks. Sorry about disappearing for a while. Truth is, I just got out of the habit of posting here. Got tired of arguing with trolls on the site.
Update: well, it’s only been 5 months, which isn’t much of any time at all to get changes in the body. Shoulders have grown a tad, that’s about it. Decided to switch to a more bodybuilding routine to see if there was any way of getting muscle growth. Higher reps, continuous tension. Typical workout:
OH Press bring low to upper chest, don’t extend all the way
45 x 15
65 x 10
75 x 6
75 x 6
75 x 6
75 x 6
Face pull
70 x 15
75 x 8
75 x 8
Press machine
50 x 15
60 x 12
70 x 10
80 x 8
80 x 7
One arm DB row
40 x 15
45 x 10
45 x 10
Ab machine
95 x 12
95 x 12
95 x 12
Grip machine
75 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
all done continuous tension. Damn hard, really, really had to concentrate to keep going.
Injury in left shoulder has made benching and squatting impossible. Squat? Grab the bar, bring body forward, arm bends back OWOWOWOWOWOW!!! Have switched to SSB squat. Been getting up to 165 lbs x 4. Really straining, but I do it. Injury finally seems to be easing up, can do bench machine without too much argument.
Also doing deads continuous tension. Sumo, touch 'n go, not quite all the way up. Blech. Have made it up to 225 x 5.
So very hard work on everything. Also have kicked up protein supplements, body loves it, but still no weight gain.
Three weeks ago was banging into limits, so took a deload. One week turned into two, two into three. Now my deload is turning into max rep stuff. Couple days ago actually got OH press of 100 lbs for 2 reps. Bench machine: did the entire stack for couple reps. Donkey calf, did entire weight stack.
Got some injury for my effort. It always happens, sprains or something everything I really push it. Have been doing ice, compression, the works. The worst one was my index finger. That one busted when I did . . . wait for it . . . leg presses. No, really. Four plates each side, really straining, when suddenly something popped. I can only guess I twitched it and it smacked against something. Fortunately, just a bruise, is better now.
If you want, I can start posting again. Not sure what my plan of attack should be here, more bodybuilding stuff or more max rep stuff.
Good to see a post Cav. I know what you mean about getting out of the habit of posting. I use it to maintain perspective and goals. Look forward to hearing more.
Thanks, Dude. Well, my goal is still the same it’s been for the past 40 years: to build as strong and big as possible.
welcome back!
Good to see you again, Cav.
Squatting and benching are tough, if not impossible, with a bad shoulder. Good to see you have found a workaround with the SSB.
Thanks, everyone.
Snap, I’ve found incline bench and OH press acceptable substitutes. Oddly, my pecs seem to be getting a little dimpled - looks like upper pecs are firming up. Really should do more of it. Also, dip machines work. I think it’s the teres major that got busted doing heavy bench.
Ran out of protein supplement. Three GNC stores close by, and not a single one has anything worthwhile. So I have to order online and wait until it crawls here. Have stopped working out for the moment - body absolutely CRAVES protein, and can’t give it. Still eating meat, turkey, and eggs and tuna, but it’s not enough.
Post deload.
It’s been a month - didn’t mean to. First week was good, but not sure I was rested enough. Next couple of weeks bad weather, didn’t want to fight through the snow. Stayed home, did some pushups, bodyweight squats. Pulled rubber band, really worked shoulders.
Now weather is clearing up and body feels completely refreshed. Let’s see if anything helped.
SSB squats
45 x 8
95 x 6
115 x 6 - got some hacking. Breathe NOSE, out MOUTH.
135 x 5
155 x 5
not bad, I could do all reps in good form, but on last set I was crying out in pain. What pain? No idea - it’s just what happens to me when I push hard. Just very - stressful. I definitely work harder than anyone else in the gym.
Back to the leg curl machine. Did 100 x 10 last time.
110 x 0
90 x 1
70 x 8
70 x 8
70 x 8
damn, I REALLY didn’t expect that. Not the first time that sort of thing has happened.
Seated calf
45 x 15 - hacked on last rep
55 x 10
70 x 8
70 x 8
wow, this was hard. I could do them just fine, but something hit the red line on the last rep or two and I just doubled over in agony. Nothing wrong with calves or legs or anything - just feel like someone tasered me.
I stopped using protein entirely and just eat extra chicken when needed. Good to see some activity.

Is there an echo in here?
Good for you Dude, but my body can’t assimilate enough protein from regular food. I need something more digestible, and a lot of it.
The squats really did me some good. Barely any DOMS at all, and my entire body felt like steel the next day.
Incline bench
45 x 10
65 x 8
95 x 8
115 x 5 - I believe that’s a 2 rep PR
115 x 5 - damn tough, nearly hit failure
Pulldown chinning grip
80 x 10
100 x 8
120 x 7
140 x 5
140 x 3 FAILURE - strained mightedly, couldn’t budge it
Dip machine
80 x 10
100 x 8
120 x 8
140 x 6
160 x 4
felt good - oh wait, actually lost strength on this one
Wrist curl is weird. I have long legs, so on any normal bench my knees are as high or higher than my hips and just can’t get any leverage. I need something higher, but not too high. Voila, there’s a wooden box in the corner that’s just the right height. Can’t wait to try it.
70 x 12
70 x 12
70 x 10.
gaughhhhh. I REALLY lost strength on this one.
First serious deadlifts in weeks. All sumo, touch n go:
Deads
115 x 8
135 x 6
185 x 6 - flying up
225 x 6 - felt easy. skip 235, go up
245 x 3 - that was tough, good hard effort
245 x 1 - I’m burned out
185 x 4 - that’s the limit
Why both with much else, that really worked me over. Let’s try the calf machine:
Donkey calf
400 x 15
400 x 12
400 x 12
that’s the full stack, which I did last time, but more reps this time.
Looks like the rest did me good. Today woke up with the most delicious DOMS in low back, hams, lats, traps . . . my oh my.
Monday did some upper body.
OH press
45 x 8
65 x 8
75 x 6
85 x 6
95 x 4
95 x 4
pretty good, that’s a PR on the 95, about 5 years ago or so was only 95 x 2, so that’s progress. At this rate I should be doing 100 x 5 in about 3 or 5 years.
Arm curl
45 x 8
65 x 6
65 x 6
worked hard on that one.
Icarian tricep ext
30 x 12
40 x 8
50 x 6
60 x 4
60 x 4
kinda surprised I could do 60, tough but no cheating, definitely a PR
Yesterday I paid for another year at the gym. They got a new SSB, so will try that for squats. This one weighs 70 pounds, plays havok with my math skills
70 x 8
90 x 6
130 x 6 - wow, this is tougher than I expected
160 x 1 - got all the way down, got up, and was so battered by the stress I had to rerack.
120 x 6 - I was sobbing from the pain of this one.
120 x 6 - gripped the handles real hard, helped alleviate some of the agony
120 x 6 - OMG it took everything I had to keep from screaming
body acts likes it’s incredibly painful, but I can’t feel any bodypart that’s hurting, and as soon as I rack, feel fine.
did some leg curls that were OK
Today I am absolutely crippled. My lower back HURTS. It’s the part I tense to try and hold my scoliosis in place, obviously I overdid it. No idea when it will clear up.
Cue the closeup of the guy and the foam roll. Sounds bad , hope its not.

Yeah lifting and my math skills don’t seem to go together either.
I hope you feel better. I’m out of action myself due to some new type of injury I did getting a car stuck out of the mud.
