Thanks for asking. Really funny coincidence, but I was just about to get back to trying to log more. It’s just really a combo of not having the mental energy to post much plus not actually having done much for the last two weeks.
Things’ve been weird and real and stressful for the last little while, but we’re getting by. Had a talk with Mrs. the other day and, after determining that Jim Beam or Breyer’s mint chip aren’t my most constructive outlets, she nudged me to get back into some kind of training routine.
Corona stuff is just getting into my brain. I had five dreams involving it over the last two weeks. In one, a guy in a store sneezed on me and I just started wailing on him. In another, I was grocery shopping without gloves and, when I woke up in real life, my first thought was “oh shit, I have to wash my hands.”
Wife’s cousin tested positive, quarantined away from her three kids and recovered; my mom’s best friend’s daughter is a nurse and tested positive but recovered; Wife’s co-worker has a client who tested positive. Last I heard he was still in a coma. Our church pastor’s daughter is a 3rd year nursing student who answered a call for hospital volunteers. She tested positive after working less than a week and she’s currently fighting it.
Tuesday workout:
A1) Random loaded carry Xx1
A2) Walking lunge 300 total reps (150 per leg)
Basically took “stuff” from the garage, carried it across the backyard (75ish? feet), walking lunged back, repeated until half the lunge were done, then put the stuff back into the garage the same way.
Carries included 60-pound heavy bag bear hug, 75-pound rock carry, 45-pound plate farmers walk, 90-pound (2x45’er plates) bear hug, 2-DB rack walk, KB waiter’s walk, other odds and ends. Took about 25 minutes total.
I just wanted to move around, didn’t feel like “lifting”-lifting. The lunges gave me baby giraffe legs the rest of the day, so it’s all good.
I mean, pretty much. Starts off “this isn’t so bad” and quickly turns into “WhyJustWhyIMeanReallyWhy”.
(More specifically for anyone following along, “breathing ladders” are basically: Do a rep, take a breath, do two reps, take two breaths, do three, take three, etc. So the mini-rest time is supposed to be the same as the reps you just did. Good/rough way to get some volume in, kinda in the same family as clusters or rest-pause.)
Worth mentioning, for curiosity if nothing else, I planned on grabbing a workout later today but will be venturing out on a supply run instead.
Last time I drove by Costco, the line to get in wrapped around the building (the building entrance is at the top/start of the red line). So, I’m figuring my afternoon and early evening are gonna be booked.
Not sure about the better sleep, that’s been off for a while so it’s tough to tell. But if nothing else, it’s a great opportunity to get some more outdoor workouts done. Definitely something refreshing about breaking a sweat outside (deliberately, beyond manual labor stuff).
I think outside is a natural counter to feeling cooped up in a building with the same people (whom I love, of course) 24/7. Going from in the house all day to in the garage for a while to back in the house all night feels unnatural (?? Not really the right word, but it’s along that line).
8:00 - Spicy shredded beef; white rice; broccoli; miso soup
Found out that the little sushi spot in our neighborhood had reopened open (for takeout only, like everywhere else) after they were closed for a few weeks, so we made a late/last-minute decision to give them some business. The whole family decided against actual sushi though, just in case.
Still stumbling my way through each day, running on mental-emotional-physical fumes but getting by. Last week or two in a nutshell:
Celebrated our third wedding anniversary in lockdown-style: 10-hour workday for Mrs., leftovers for dinner, and looking at pics of the hotel we were supposed to be staying at.
Almost started a fight with a dude in a store because he wanted to “wear” his mask like a spaz (tucked under his chin so he could talk and breathe 100% normally). Saw the news report from Michigan a few days later about the security guard who was murdered for telling someone to wear a mask, so I may need to rethink that approach in the future.
In my defense, in the two days before the near-altercation, I’d gotten word that the son of one of our best friends tested positive (now recovering), a friend of my Mother-in-Law died from Covid, and the friend of another friend died from Covid while several months pregnant. So when I said to the guy in the store, “Can you put your mask on?” and he said “Mind your own business”, things went downhill pretty quick.
Unrelated (but maybe not), I made a regrettable decision one afternoon this past weekend involving too much/too many different drinks on too little food.
Had the outside “spare” fridge go on the fritz, so not only are some foods tough to come by in the first place, but we’re now more limited in what we can store.
The dog is acting up behaviorally - eating cat litter, chewing cat toys, barking for attention, etc. - almost definitely from getting stressed by picking up on the general anxiety in the house.
But I trained arms yesterday, so ‘s’all good. Not trying to be Complainy McWhinesalot. Just ranting. I appreciate you asking and opening the can o’ worms.
People seem to not understand that masks are to protect others, not yourself. Or they just don’t give a shit about protecting others. Either way, not good. Glad you didn’t take it further than that.
