Coconut Oil

Anybody know if coconut oil has all of the fat loss benefits that it is purported to have? Is that just a bunch of health industry bullshit or is it actually beneficial in speeding up metabolism etc.?

Thanks

depends on the manufacturing process of the coconut. go for the virgin non processed kind. it should be a solid at room temperture.

considering the high amount of medium chain triglycerides which the body can use for energy i feel this is a great food supplement for people on low carb diets who don’t want a decrease in performance. I like taking it in the morning when i want energy to start my day but i want to stay away from carbs.

coconut also has a specific acid which is an anti-viral which should help the immune system. a stronger immune system will allow the body to recover better and faster. laters pk

how much do you take?

Its simply a good source of sat fats. Has the MCT’s as well which as stated can be GREAT for energy and moreso on a restricted carb diet.

Id lean toward even going less refined then the oil and get real coconut or the milk. Its a hell load cheaper as well.

For interest there are studies also showing peoples from areas largely dependent on coconut as a dietary source are less prone to certain cancers like sun cancer as well as they have silky smooth hair and skin and smell good the second part largely due to the use of it as a lotion etc.

a tablespoon should be enough (15grams) laters pk

Health benefits aside I think it tastes better and is more convenient than butter. It’s barely solid at room temperature which makes it very easy to spread if you’re crazy like me and aren’t afraid of carbs and fat during the same meal.

To the people that use it as part of low carb, what do you eat it with? Are you cooking with it or just grab a spoon?

I usually take about 2-4 tblspoons of coconut oil a day.
I usually put them in my shakes,or cook with them,or bake with them.

Wow. That’s a lot of coconut oil. It’s definitely good stuff though.

thanks for all of the replies. I did read recently that coconut oil is less prone to be stored as fat and more likely to be used up as an energy source as well as speeding up the metabolism.

That sounds alot like that enova oil stuff, which is supposedly less likely to be stored in the body as fat because of how it is reconstructed after passing through the intestines. Maybe cocnut oil works in a similar way?

Cocunut oil is purported to stimulate the thyroid gland, hence the potential for aiding fat loss.

There are studies from the University if Kerala in India that show up to a 25% increase in metabolism from consumption of coconut oil. The problem is that many manufacturers bleach and deodorize the oil(to make it more pleasant tasting) which degrades the quality of the oil.

Ditto on a lot of these posts, but adding my own 2 cents. In a nutshell, I love coconut oil. Besides the health benefits, I use a tablespoon or two of it in my pre-workout shake. For me no carb even comes close to what this stuff can do for energy, LOL.
