Day 32
My 6-8 transformation had ended sooner than expected but the results for me in just 4 weeks have been great. I dropped 4.5kg (10lbs) without losing any strength. I did however lose some of my endurance ability within my sets but I think that’s too be expected while running on 0 carbs.
I didnt find the diet all that restrictive but definitely had to plan more than normal and prepare more than normal. I suppose we live in a convenient society and unfortunately those convenient foods aren’t generally part of a keto diet, especially here in SA where we are very limited with choices in super markets and health shops in general.
I didnt get chance to take photos again before my surgery but will attempt do over the next couple of weeks, although I’m not quite sure how good they’ll be as I’m not able to do any weights for about 4-6 weeks and cadio within 2-3 weeks.
However I will be switiching over to palep eating as much as possible which will help maintain mass and still keep body fat low while in recovery. It also gives me time to plan my peri-workout nutrition for Paleo and allow my Paleo for Athletes book to arrive.
My energy levels throughout the diet were very good even when my body was tired due to stress or lack of sleep it felt a lot better than being on conventional carb eating. All my digestive problems, constipation bloating completely went away while on this diet. It only ever returned on Friday carb up days.
Over the 4 weekends with carb ups I definitely found limiting the carb up to 24hrs or less gave me better results and allowed my body to adapt better and function better in keto. It also allowed me to return back to keto quicker which ultimately led me to greater fat loss.
It’s definitely a diet that works very well, I’m not convinced it can be a long term diet but then again it’s not meant to be and it all depends on what food you like anyway. I did find it hard at times to constantly eat fatty foods regardless of healthy fat of unhealthy fats.
Overall this was a great experience for me, the results I got in such a short space of time were great! The food was good even if a little restrictive at times (for my taste buds), the planning and prep work were more time consuming but once you got into a routine that was ok. It felt strange at first to finish training without a “pump” but it felt great being that bit lighter and improve my power to weight ratio.
If anyone has any questions about keto I’m no expert but can now definitely relate and how based on my experiences and my results.
Thanks to all who helped along the way it was much appreciated and doing this thread definitely helped keep me strong on days where i was feeling weaker. It provided more accountability and reasons not to quit. I am disappointed I couldnt do the full 6-8 weeks but without my training this diet for me isn’t sustainable mentally rather than physically.
Paleo here we come!
