Christian Bale as John Connor

How about Eric Bana for a Terminator? They’d have to keep sunglasses on him and really ‘mass’ him up, but I think with shorter hair, and limited dialogue it could be done.

Hugh Jackman might make a decent Terminator if the same formula/treatment above is followed.

Bobby DeNiro gained like 50-60 lbs for the END (only maybe 30 min of the film) of Raging Bull. THE END. He was like 160-170 throughout 90-100 min of the movie, and then POW, he’s old, retired Jake LaMotta and he’s a 220 lb fatass. Scorsese wanted him to just wear a fat suit, but naturally DeNiro insisted that actually gaining the weight was the only way it would be real enough. They actually took a few month break in filming the movie so he could gain the weight. Afterwards, nobody even recognized him when he walked in to start shooting again.

If completely ruining your body for the sake of your job isn’t dedication and sacrifice, I don’t know what is.

A fair example, but my opinion persists: Getting fat means eating a bunch of indulgent food. Doing what Bale did means starving yourself for months on end. They’re both “ruining your body”, but one takes a HELL of a lot more dedication than the other.

I agree that it’s harder, I’m just trying to point out that getting really fat for a role wouldn’t be all that fun. I would be miserable if I had to gain 60 lbs of fat in a few months. I would also be miserable if I had to lose 60 lbs, just in a different way.

Terrence Howard definately needs to be mentioned with great contemporary actors. I hear they may be working on him having a larger role in the next Iron Man or something, because his character becomes the “Steel Giant”, right? He’s a great actor too. I didn’t care for Hustle and Flow, but his performance was awesome nonetheless. And who can forget his performance in Crash? It was amazing, IMO.

And for the record: Matthew McConaughey DOES suck. He was good in Reign of Fire (opposite Bale) and that’s the only wink of “acting” he’s ever done.
I’m pretty sure he’s going to be War Machine in the sequels and that was the idea when they cast him for the role. The even made a reference to it when he looked at the silver Iron Man prototype and said “next time”.

And I agree, McConaughey sucks.

War Machine that was it! I thought it was something similar to that, oh well.

terrence howard may be a good actor but i just cant stand him for some reason i just dont like him and i wish they would find some body else to play war machine.

PG-13 is a NO GO, Mr!!

I am worried about McG, because I doubt his sincerity to cast hard assed actors/actresses for the roles. I’m thinking he’ll cast the “who’s hott” at the moment rather than cast the unnamed waiter who may be a breakout star due to his supporting role alongside Bale. Could be good, as long as they don’t go too ridiculous with the CGI like they did in T3.

On a side note *T2 STILL looks great compared to the buckets of CGI shit like Transformers and Speed Racer people are lining up to see, and that’s testament to Cameron’s legacy.
I agree with teh T2 Statement and Camerons legacy but I liked transformers and CGI is teh only way the could have done it but I aint touching speed racer with a ten foot barge poll… Its by the guys who did teh matrix (and if I ever hear another comment that the matrix movies have the best gun fight scenes by some snotty nosed teenager who thinks he knows it all and hasnt watched heat or understand that in real life it aint like the matrix/John Woo I will explode)

I believe you’re right with Eric Bana. Not so sure about Jackman, though.

On a side note, have you seen what Michael Mann is directing next? And, who is in it? It looks like it will be pretty amazing: Public Enemies (2009) - IMDb

A movie directed by Mann, with bale and depp as the leads…it would be almost impossible to flop.

Holy shit. I nominate that movie for best of 2009. I fully expect that to be as good as Heat with the talent they’re throwing at it. If it weren’t for the shitstain that was Miami Vice, Mann would have a perfect resume. I will give him a mulligan on that one and blame the whole thing on Colin Farrell though.

Speaking of great young actors, Jamie Foxx is pretty fucking good too.
