It could be. The Taiwanese military sucks balls from what Iāve heard.
I think they just donāt give a fuck.
Didnāt Mao mandate Tai chi as a cure for tuberculosis?
TBH, thatās not a bad recommendation⦠AFTER real treatment (ie antibiotics) have been given
He said so much nonsense I canāt keep up lol. Even in the 90s or 2000s, they were making claims worldwide that Traditional Chinese Medicine managed to cure severe brain damage one newscaster suffered that Western Medicine couldnāt. In the 80s and 90s, the State also claimed they had people with telekinetic powers, which resulted in some of the most hilarious HK movies ever made and launched the career of Stephen Chow(All for the Winner).
Probably projection from Westerners who are saturated in political news daily, and assume everyone else is obsessively doing the same thing too (not to mention the sad quality of much news).
I donāt know that Iāve encountered this view of rabid communism personally. Thereās a consensus that theyāre saturated in propaganda from the State, but you already know that with your wifeās TV habits.
Maybe in the sense that westerners probably feel that the Chinese population believes a lot of the propaganda (not unreasonable, but weāre also on the other side of the world and uninformed about the vibe there).
Nah, mostly we view this part as just the CCP leadership
I think thereās misunderstanding on both sides, or to put it in terms of food:
China: US food is crap, all they eat is hamburgers and fries
US: Chinese food? Iāve had Chinese food, went to Panda express the other day.
That got me to chuckle. I think this is an excellent analogy.
Also, hungry are we? Lol
no, my stats class is using an example with food preferences ![]()
I think itās more like:
US: Chinese food? You mean bats, cats and dogs?
good point
Donāt forget the pangolin. I hear they are very tasty deep fried.
No one eats pangolin
Pangolin is dried, ground into powder and mixed into some medical concoction.
Stewed endangered salamander is a (highly illegal) delicacy though
No, you really cannot. Germany for instance, has had 3 different governments in the 20th century. One prior to WW1, one before WW2 and one after. So it has essentially been 3 countries divided along political lines. While you can criticize the US for some of itās history, that history does not include genocide and mass murder (especially as policy) and the CCP very much does. And itās not a critique of chinese people at all. I am pretty sure most of the surf class doesnāt have much regard for the CCP. Itās still very much Maoās China.
I know some Native Americans who may take issue with this.
In other words, people go to where the money is at. If itās the US, fine. If itās China, thatās fine too as long as they get paid. Thatās what leaves the US in a very precarious situation. Breaking news, is that the US has joined the EU in China sanctions and that joining was very much as a result of the failed talks in Alaska.
Weāve already felt the results of moving too much of our core infrastructure to China, who is in no uncertain terms, an enemy. Promises to bring back infrastructure to the US are not obviously being done in practice.
All China has to do is quit sending us antibiotics. Between the time of the cessation and the ramping up of US production, a lot of people will die. China wants to crush us and they are using us against ourselves to great effect.
IDK, systemic racism and the insane incarceration rates arenāt exactly great
Agreed.
To be fair, disease did most of the actual killing, but the US government policy probably counts as cultural genocide
The policy wasnāt of mass murder- it was stupid policy decision and excessive attachment to ineffective ideology that resulted in multiple catastrophic famines. They didnāt even have mass slave labour camps like the Soviets, but thatās mostly because the government had minimal organization powers
To be fair, Chiang Kai Shek (the guy who escaped to Taiwan and set up their government) authorized the blowing up a dam which caused massive flooding leading to a massive famine in Henan
Mao would turn in his grave if he saw the extent of consumer culture in China today. @dt79
This I agree with. While trade is good, a country should be able to produce itās own essential infrastructure, particularly medical equipment/supplies
no they donāt. They want to get rich off of the world buying their shit.
Both nations need to stop treating each other as enemies and start making each other rich
I agree with a lot of your perspective in response to pat, but I donāt think these things are comparable at all to genocide and mass murder. Incarceration by definition is justice for something wrong that was done, so cannot be construed as either. We can definitely debate whether so much is good or bad, or needs correction, but fundamentally itās payment for a crime.
Systemic racism is different too. Not good, but much different. If you want to compare slavery, thatās more applicable but also long dead in the country thankfully.
Disease wasnāt intentional, more a result of completely not understandimg the germ theory and hygiene. But the transformation of government policy from the beginnings to itās eventual end is simply awful. A sad, sad chapter.
Theyāre doing that already. The problem is what happens if this equilibrium changes for one reason or the other.
There is also good money to be made convincing people that we are soon to be enemies, and that we (the US) will lose power and wealth.
