Hi CT,
I’m reading through “Born To Run” that Eric Cressey mentioned in his “What I Learned in 2009” article. It talks about chia seeds that the running tribe that features in the book use as nourishment and, according to the book, is like a superfood (packed with protein, nutrients, etc.) that is excellent at building muscle, lowering cholesterol and so on. This is the first time I’ve heard about it–what’s your take on it?
Thanks,
Mike
There’s got to be a ton of threads about it on this site. It’s maybe slightly better than flax, but pretty similar. I wouldn’t make it a main source of calories, although it’s definitely a healthy addition/substitute for less healthy foods, or to boost fiber, and or to slow the digestion of something. I haven’t had them myself, but plan to order some. They’re about 3X more expensive than flax, so it’s a matter of whether it’s worth it. I found a “cheap” source for chia flour though which may be worth a shot. nuchiafoods.com

I’ve never seen it mentioned on here, but planned on picking some up soon. 3x as expensive? I’ll just buy a chia pet and save money then
stuff looks legit to me

@ JF, The nutritional profile is great! Chia is the highest plant source of omega 3s (ALA) if that sort of thing matters to you (higher than flax). I might get some and add it to my quinoa!
