Chavez to Cut Off Oil

That website is pretty good, yes.

It also has a far better critique of the Lancet study than anyone doubting the Lancet study had on this.

Maybe becuase they are more into facts than cheerleading and giving in to the desire to be the good guys.

Note however that they only count documented, civilian, non-combatant violent deaths.

That means that their number is but a fraction of the overall Iraqi deaths caused by the US.

Their number is far smaller because it’s the truth cross-referenced and verified where as the lancet study was not.

You don’t know much about the topic, do you?

IBC counts violent deaths that are reported in the press. Lancet took pre-war death rates and compared them to the rates when their studies were conducted, then extrapolated to find the number of people whose deaths may have be attributed to the war. It’s far from perfect, but rather a rough estimate.

This is the only thing you said that is accurate…

What do you think the margin of error is on a “rough estimate”?

How many civilians did Islamic insurgents kill in India last year? Yet we are not in India? How many did they kill in Lebanon? Yet we are not in Lebanon. How many did they kill in Pakistan? Yet we are not in Pakistan. They kill civilians because they are pussies and civilians make easy targets.

Why would we eat dirt. This just makes Chavez’s threat look all the more foolish. He is too irrational to understand how the civilized world works.

That was directed at Exxon and its supporters.

How dare those bastards provide us oil.

You folks tend to forget Venezuela is the second cheapest oil the US buys. Iraq is number one of course, since you literally occupy them.

Everything points out that Chavez’s bluffing. But supposing he’s not, the cut will not hit the USA that hard. It won’t go unnoticed, but it’ll certainly not be a disaster. Venezuela, on the other hand, will tremendously suffer - initially. Then, after he signs a few contracts with Beijing, it’ll be back to normal. Heck, if the current trend in oil prices persist, Caracas is set to become very wealthy in few decades.

Chavez will be gone is a few years, but his legacy will live on. You can accuse him of many things, but the one thing I don’t doubt is that he is not getting bought by big oil (as Rafael Rodriguez was). He is fully committed to the Bolivarian revolution, and won’t break under pressure.[/quote]

What’s he going to do, dance around his oil and sing songs? He still has to sell it to someone, and we’re the nearest large consumer. If he sells it overseas, he’ll lose more profit in the supply chain, but it will still be sold, which will still drive down oil prices. The idiot (Chavez) doesn’t understand basic economic principles. Even Israel gets its oil, though all the Arabs hate them.

Exxon offered him the deal. The guy’s an idiot…should have taken the deal. He just stole $12 billion from some pretty powerful people who (surprise) aren’t going to take this very well. He should have taken the deal.

I can hear a chainsaw in El Presidente’s future…

I hope your right, but I don’t think so. He is stupider than his mentor Castro, but he hasn’t done enough to tank his regime.

You should give him credit for his successes so far.

He only had a few years and market economies are incredibly resilient.

My point is he doesn’t know when to shut the fuck up and Castro did. He makes him self look ridiculous and loses when he rattles his saber and then backs down repeatedly. If he wants to be more successful he needs to shut the fuck up. Constantly taunting the U.S. is not going to help him, especially when all his threats are empty. No matter, I want him to fail. Oil is propping him up artificially as I can see it. If he didn’t have the mega mula he’s got, he would have been ousted by now.
