Man… you would have to have some serious balls to climb under somebody’s vehical and do this. I could just myself doing this and getting caught while I am underneath the car and getting my nuts and gut stomped in from the owner.
They stole your catalytic converter? Unbelievable! Where the hell do you live, Compton? I think it’s time to move to a new place. Geeez…
Ugh, for the second time today, my post didnt go through becuase it thinks Im logged out.
Summary of what I wrote:
-
No way would I build my own cover (read oven) around my converter.
-
Converter cores start at 80 bucks and up, depending on the style. Thats not to say what they are even worth to someone that is wanting a good one to put on thier car.
-
I work at a Chevy dealer, you arent getting a converter assembly from me for less than 500 bucks or so.

Why bother welding bolts when for 20 bucks all they need is an exhaust cutter and about 5 minutes?
I think all you can do is hope no one rips you off again. Really, does putting an alarm on your vehicle keep your 12 billion dollar radio safe? No.
If they want it, its gone. Sorry. I speak from experience.
Good luck.
Cats are BIG money. A person can easily make $1k a night with only 5 cats or so. Platinum prices are pretty good right now.
A buyer once asked me if I could score some for him. We had a big conversation about it all. From what I can gather, your best bet is to switch to stainless steel exhaust piping. The harder it is the better. Most guys use the chain cutter so they might skip your car if it’s too bothersome. I think it was BMWs that he said don’t get stolen much. It’s because the pipe is so hard to cut through.
