How can we have a discussion like this without addressing that question?? Considering, that Carter only stated that those people do exist…not that they encompass the majority of conservative base, healthcare opponents,etc…i.e.,EVERYONE who dislikes Obama. At least that’s how I read his words…but I also wasn’t looking for anything outside what he stated.

I don’t know why these things matter. You’re never going to be able to weed out all of the racism, and at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter: he won the election with a clear majority and therefore a clear mandate to get the country going in the right direction. Poll after poll shows what people want. He’s burning up political capital on stupid, unnecessary things right now when the Dems have control of both the presidency and both congress and the senate. He’s also marginalizing his secretary of state, which is extremely dumb b/c she’ll undermine his efforts or run against him. Now, this ACORN business is coming out and everyone knows the president worked there.

I guess my point is, it’s the president’s fault whether he succeeds or fails, not “racists”. If he fails, it’s going to be extremely bad for the country at a point where we’re getting extremely polarized and we’re in a bad economic situation. All he’s gotta do is reverse the policies that have gotten us to our current nadir. The economy’s not his fault, either. He can look like the hero if he does the right thing. Bush and the Republicans could not have driven things harder into a ditch.

Well,I do agree with ya. I was just addressing what hadn’t appeared to be answered.

I thought I’d also add that he’s talking about legalizing the illegals here in 2010. That was the thing that turned Bush’s own party against him more than anything else. Obama could.not.make. a poorer decision than to push for this in the middle of a depression like this (or ever, really). He’ll ruin his presidency if he does this - I guarantee it. If people think the Tea Partiers are a problem now, wait till this drops. He says he’s not going to give health care to the illegals, so if he passes the health care and then just legalizes the illegals, he’s basically lying and he’ll be out by 2012.

If people think there is racism toward Obama, you should hear what Vicente Fox has said.

He has said openly that Mexicans do jobs that not even blacks will do. [/quote]

agree as a latino man. I can tell you, there’s no love between mexicans and blacks. there is always friction between both groups. it doesn’t take vary much to spark violence. as jobs and resources dwindle, it will only get worse. it would backfire horribly, if the dems ever grant amnesty.

That’s what I’m getting at…there are plenty of individuals down here whose main problem with Obama’s presidency is that he’s a black guy with an Arab sounding name.

There are plenty of racist black people where I live as well. What’s your point?

That his comments may have some merit when talking about the southern states. We aren’t talking about racist black people in this thread, nice try though.

Southern states? What’s you problem with southern states? I went Massachusetts and I found them twice as racist as southerners, so you can shove you stereotype.

See you’re problem there is you went to a Klan rally when you visited Massachusetts …

We’re twice as racist as southerners huh … how do you gauge something like that? Is there like a poll you conducted, maybe walked around a mall and gave a survey asking, on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the least and 5 being the most, how much do you hate people from a different race/national origin based solely on their skin tone/language/accent?

I’m impressed…

See, that’s how I feel about the south. It’s not the redneck haven it once was. Georgia is one of the most multicultural states in the Union, execpt for maybe New York and L.A…

My experience in Mass. was a good one. But it was just funny seeing some of the traditions, the italians hate the irish. The Irish hate the Italians, everybody hates the Jews, etc. My evidence was purely anecdotal. Family who have visited us from up yonder always comment on how many blacks there are in Georgia, they can’t believe it.
I liked Mass. I wouldn’t live there though, the weather’s to cold, the houses are waaaay to small and waaaay to expensive, and I am not a Red Sox fan which apparently a heresy there as well as my disdain for Ted.

Well, I agree with your disdain for Ted, and I’d classify it as a “friendly rivalry” between the Italians and the Irish.

I lived in the South (mostly South Carolina, but some Southern Alabama/Panhandle Florida) for about 8 years (school/military). The most blatantly racist person I came across was from South Carolina (quite vocal about his involvement with the Klan). To be fair a lot of the girls I dated from the South had their prejudices about black and Hispanic people as well but it’s purely anecdotal. It’d be a fallacy to group the entire South and all her people as being a bunch of racist rednecks as you don’t seem to be either.

I can appreciate your love for your home state, as you expressed your appreciation for me defending mine … oh, and you can keep the Braves, we kicked em out years ago

I know that there is no love between those groups, but what Vicente Fox said is flat out uncalled for.

I like Larry Elder but he’s dead wrong on immigration. He just glazes over practically everything about it.

re: “Is being ‘anti-Obama’ racist

This came over my transom for review. New article about some ‘anti-Obama’ posters showing up in the nearby town of Brunswick, Maine, home of Bowdoin College and one of THE most notoriously ‘liberal strongholds’ in the very liberal state of Maine.

Your opinions please.

BRUNSWICK- Black and white flyers with the words “Stop Obama” accompanying a barred Communist Party image of a hammer-and-sickle were posted overnight Thursday throughout the Northwest Brunswick neighborhood, leading some residents to complain to police and the Town Council that the notices were ‘offensive and racist’.

The hammer and sickle is the symbol of the former Soviet Union.

"Although, perhaps, meant to be a political statement, we found it racist and threatening," Cumberland Street residents Vicky and Betsy Marr wrote in an e-mail to Brunswick police, town councilors and other officials Friday morning. “It is totally inappropriate for our community. We hope if you see these around your neighborhood that you will remove them.”

By 9:30 a.m. Friday, the flyers remained on several area utility poles and others littered Cumberland and Union Street. At 3 p.m., copies remained posted on McKeen Street and Spring Street. Copies fluttered in the wind on Middle Street, outside the main entrance to Curtis Memorial Library.

Brunswick Police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said Friday that police would not take any action related to the political signs.

A federal statute prohibits posting anything on utility company property, he said, including yard sale and lost pet announcements. But without a local ordinance or inclusion in the Maine criminal statutes, local police do not enforce the prohibition.

“We would if the sign contained a specific threat or was overly racist,” he said, “but to us, this is a political sign. As far as I know there’s nothing racist about a hammer and scythe.”

Photo caption: Someone posted these signs on utility poles throughout the Northwest neighborhood in Brunswick on Thursday night or Friday morning, prompting some residents to complain to police. While federal law prohibits affixing signs of any type to utility poles, Brunswick police do not enforce it, according to Cmdr. Marc Hagan.

RACIST???!
