Is anyone here a pharmacist, know one or about the job, or has anyone here pursued a career in the field? I’m at a point now in my education where I need to choose a path and I was considering transferring my credits to take me on a four year pharmacy program.
Really, I just want to know what kind of career this is behind the job description. The little nuances that nobody tells you about it, before I possibly take this route.
Most when they graduate start out working @ rite aid or CVS. These are decent jobs and pay 65-80k. At first you work a lot of weekends, and work the stores “no one else wants” til you get some seniority.
Pharmacists in a hospital setting make about 100k.
If you really bust it in college and get your pharm D (PHD in pharmacy) you can become a researcher. Here’s where the real Cheddar kicks in. My buddy who got his D started for bristol meyers in princeton, now is living an working in NoCal. He lives in a 2mil dollar condo and is loving life. (Bastage)

How are the hours? Are they stable or is it a job with shifting hours based on…?

BTW you must be good w/ chemistry and math.
Organic chemistry at that level is an A** Kicker![/quote]
What kind of relationship does it have with organic chemistry? Basically I’m wondering if it’s like calculus and engineering. I have heard some people say that engineers mostly don’t use calculus for anything (is that even true?) - So would the material I’m learning from… say an organic chemistry class series, be closely tied in with pharmaceutical purposes / or are they slightly different or unrelated somehow? Or do you know?
My cousin came out of graduate school with a job right away making 95k starting. Didn’t really pay attention so I don’t know if she has PhD or if its in a store or lab but yeah she’s doing pharmacy.
I hear the demand is really good generally because it’s long hours and comes off as boring to most people but never the less really good pay. I’m a senior in high school so I have no experience but I’m looking at majors and careers. Here’s a good site with LOTs of information Pharmacists: Jobs, Career, Salary and Education Information
