Car Advice

Nobody thinks about the Hyundai but it’s a killer car. At 375hp & 333lb/ft it’s clearly no slouch in a drag and it handles pretty well too for a big car. It has all the luxuries of the competative BMW & Benzes at a MUCH lower cost…It’s even faster than all the E Class & 5 Series models other than the E550 & E63 or 550i & M5 models.

Gas wise, it’s no worse than the V6 Genesis and you can use premium or regular gas. My average is 11L/100km (I don’t know this in MPG) and that’s with getting stuck in traffic daily as well as highway driving. It may not be your thing, but it’s an underrated car, check it out.
The newer Genesis R-Spec (2011-2014) has a 5.0L engine at over 400hp as well.
even though its much more affordable than mercedes/bmw, it’s still pretty pricey (in my book, i think the op mentioned $16K?)

what i dont get is that there is the:
accent
elantra
sonata
azera
genesis
equus
…and these are ALL hyundai! how many fucking cars do yo need to make? geeze, lol

to go along with this, how about the KIA Cadenza??

Every car they make is designed to compete with their Japanese neighbours, at a cheaper price, more options and often more speed.
Elantra - Corolla
Sonata - Camry
Genesis - 5 series, E class, Impala, Charger
Genesis 2d - G37 Coupe
Equus - Is actually like a bargain 7 series, I’d never get one… Very boring looking cars.

As for prices, mine was listed at $22,900 used with 65000KMs on it. Pretty sly deal, I took em down to 19k in the long run. A used V6 Genesis 4d goes for around 14k-20k.

One thing that I was told when choosing a new car is, that makes sense is to really make sure you enjoy the interior, since that’s where you’ll be spending the most of your time.
You really have to sit in the car and drive it. My last 2 cars, Altima and Malibu, had great dash layouts. Everything was easily visible and easy to reach. I test drove a new Accord some years back, the main dash controls for the radio and heater was way too big in scale.

I’d go no older than a 2010 and look to have it under 50k miles. The leap from a 2008 is not that far. Cars I like, Maxima, G37, Dodge Challenger STR8, Cadillac CTS.

Ya, I’m not sure if any of them are really in my price range. It starts to get a bit too high when I get aroud 2010 models. Duly noted about the button layouts, though. I’ll start test driving some of these cars, soon to see what I think about them in person.

I agree with you about V6 “muscle” cars, but on the other hand, which would be more useful in your daily life, the extra V8 power or the extra V6 gas mileage? But on the other other hand, if you aren’t as concerned with your gas budget… the V8s are pretty damn cool.
See I’m trying to justify getting that V8. The V6 is definitely more useful and cost-efficient, haha. But the bigger engine is just so much more awesome… After looking at some specs, it doesn’t appear that there’s a big difference between the V8 mileage and my current car. Do the V8s need premium gas? or can you use regular and they’ll be fine? Does anyone know?

In 2008 I sold my gas guzzler when gas hit $4 a gallon. I was spending $75-90 a week. I got a 4-cylinder Altima and the car payment was = to the change in gas consumption.

I drive 300+ miles per week, so economy trumps power. I was really hesitant to go with the 4, but it was peppy enough for what I did with it. I got the 2012 Malibu next, mileage is a bit better than the Altima with the 2.4 Eco 4. Good power and good on the wallet. I do miss the punch of a V6 or V8. My wife has the Highlander with the V6, that has plenty of balls and she has a heavy right foot.

If you want something sporty, that has some balls and torque out the ass, and gets damn near 40 on the highway, the 3 series diesel isn’t a bad choice.

I’ve seen a few sub-20k-miles cars for less than $30k around here recently.
That’s a bit out of my price range. Is the 2011 the first year they made the diesel model? Also, it does get better mileage, but isn’t diesel usually more expensive than even premium?

The Genesis is the only Hyundai that I’d consider getting, but I think they’re pretty much out of my price range, too. But if I can find some that aren’t, I may consider a Hyundai (can’t believe I’m saying that, but you’re right, I’ve always respected the Genesis since it came out).

I could go as high as 17 or 18 if it feels like it’s worth it. I don’t know about a Kia…

I’m making a spreadsheet with various pieces of info on them just to be able to compare all the possibilities side-to-side. I’ll have to add the Genesis to is, want to see how it matches up.

Honestly I’ve always been a Chevrolet guy as you can tell by my display pic, but I went from that car to my Genesis now and don’t regret a thing. I lucked out and only paid $17,600 after tax due to my trade in but with patience you will eventually find something. My friend has a 2.0T Genesis 2door and loves it as well. It doesn’t have the 4 door’s luxuries but it’s pretty damn swell and for not a lot of money can be tuned to be pretty damn quick.

We ran regular in hers and it did fine.

Have you considered a Trailblazer SS, they’re sporty. AWD, and pretty quick. I prefer trucks myself, something about shoehorning my fat ass into a small car just doesn’t sound appealing. That and the need for a truck with my line of work. I think you might be more comfortable in a full size truck.

Cars are my business. I buy well over $1million in inventory a month (probably closer to $3million) spread out over most of the makes and models. Do not wish to step on anyone’s feelings, but I would advise you to stay away from the Dodge. Terrible car for the money in my opinion and depreciates accordingly. Much better choices out there for your price range. The G37 would be a good choice.

You could try looking at a 4th or 5th generation Subaru Legacy. They aren’t as ugly as the older ones, and my friend who’s between 6’3 and 6’4 loves his (came w/ turbo package). All wheel drive kicks ass.

Any thoughts on a 3rd gen acura TL-S (6-speed with nav) or a 2005-2007 honda S2000?

Thanks!

Both great cars under the right circumstances, but you really need to know their histories if possible. I personally have had 2 bad incidents with the S2000. Really nicely designed engine, but the tolerances are so incredibly tight that it only takes one moment of stupidity to render it a boat anchor. Tolerances are so tight and RPM’s so high you don’t get a second chance. You want one that was a one owner, female, over fifty (kidding, but not really).

Also, I have learned to despise BMW’s over the last couple of years. Unless you are buying new, get a great warranty then trade before it expires.

I just picked up an 05 Audi S4 convertible with 60k miles for $16,500, with 2 1/2 years left on an after market warranty. Its not may daily driver. I wanted something fun, but didn’t want to pay for a new car. The interior is flawless and so are the mechanicals. The paint looks like its in good shape for an 05, but it doesn’t look new.

I flew into LA and drove it from the OC to SL Tahoe for a bachelor party, then back home to WA last night. Holy crap, that car is fun. I went through the back door through Reno then Lassen National Forest around Mount Shasta to get back to I-5 in the wee hours of the morning and with no one around that car just chewed up the twisties at speeds I won’t write down here. If it were my daily driver and I didn;t need a truck, I’d probably get a Lexus GS or an Infinity G37, but damn Audi knows how to make a car feel planted on the road.

I said it earlier but you won’t fit in a S2000 if you have any size on you. I love that body style TL-S. Even the base TL is quick and they are all very stylish with great features. Add in the reliability of it being a Honda and it’s a winner.

It’s actually because of the Acura TL/TSX that I ended up buying a Saab (great deal). Looks are similar to me and it has similar and possibly more creature comforts. Some of the newer ones are flat out amazing (TurboX) and they come loaded with features. Plus they are fun to drive. A slight tune done to mine and I’ll be at 280hp and 360ft/lb of torque.

I don’t have any worries about fitting in an S2000, although I could be wrong in assuming I’ll fit, hah. I’m only ~195 at 5’6 and even at ~220, I fit just fine in my [already tight] eclipse.

I know the TL-S has a lot going for it and I absolutely love that car, I’m still torn on the S2000 though. I used to own a 3rd gen TL (auto, non S-type) and my biggest complaint was the torque steer from it. For this reason, I think I want a RWD car this time. But I do still consider the TLS a contender (I love it in blue.)

The S2000 was my first ‘dream car’ and I’m thinking that if I don’t jump at the opportunity to own one now, it’ll be too difficult to find in decent shape with reasonable miles in the future. Kinda how it’s incredibly difficult to find a toyota supra in good shape now that they’re out of production for so long. Oh well.

EDIT: I also hadn’t thought of a saab. I’ve always had a thing for them, too. I’m just a little skeptical about their recent stop of production. You would likely know - what’s the situation as far as repairs for them go? Are parts going to still be available?
