Canadian and American police seem to be using unjustifiable excessive force more and more often as time goes on.

Police officers are the only reason the scum bag next to you in the street, market, video store, etc. is not beating your ass and taking your shit. Don’t break the law and you won’t get your ass beat. We are lucky to have the freedoms we have in the U.S. and even Canada. People protest against the governments intrusion into our lives and yet they will not leave the country to go live some where the fuck else. I guarantee you’d want police officers like that to show up if somebody jacked you for your shit. Beware of bears.
LOL!!
I have been “jacked for my shit” and the cops took a statement and that was all. I never saw my “jacked shit” again and trust me, few other people are either unless it is a car that has been lo-jacked (and then it is doubtful you will see it in tact again).
I have been to third world countries and I agree, most people (including those in this thread who are writing like you just did) take much of what we have for granted.
That doesn’t mean I can’t voice my disapproval when I get followed and pulled over by cops for no reason simply because I “look suspicious” (this happened last week, followed for over a mile to have them flash their lights when I turn off the road to let them pass…no ticket, no laws broken).
No, I appreciate police officers but if you really can’t see that there are REAL problems in many cases simply due to abuse of power, then you must not get out much.[/quote]
I get out plenty ![]()
I guess it’s just my personal experiences then. I’ve never had to worry about cops because i never really got caught for anything and i know how to talk to them i guess. Plus here in Hollywood, they tend to stay away from giving club owners and promoters any shit. I’ve had the same 4 officers rotate their shifts around my club just cause they like to hang out. They take care of me and my guys, then i take care of them when they come in. I’ve gotten away with quite a few DUI’s just cause i called them while the officer pulling me over was still walking towards my car.

Wait, so because you alone have never experienced even half of the “harassment” I have in my life time across many states, this means everyone else is lying about it?
I don’t personally appreciate feeling like I am being followed by cops when I leave the house for no reason other than DWB in a nice neighborhood. You apparently think this is ok since it isn’t happening to you?

Maybe it is racial profiling. It has come up in a few of my classes and even though our teachers tell us that police depts are trying to curb it, it still happens. Whether it is a black guy driving a car around, or in my city racial profiling usually involves natives walking around downtown or hanging around doorways. I hate hearing about it but it happens.
I’m a 20 year old white guy and I dont dress like the bitch-ass-punks in this city so I have never experienced any harassment from the coppers here.
You are definitely the most intimidating dentist I have ever seen (in an awe inspiring way of course). Theres no way that cops dont feel edgy when they see you. Its too bad that theres nothing you can do about it either eh? Any complaint you file would just disappear.
I strongly believe it is the responsibility of the officer to know and be able to execute proper submission techniques just to avoid accusations of police brutality let alone hurting some guy who is scarred and doesnt know any better. They do all sorts of fire arm practice so they can kill someone when they need to, but then neglect to learn how to arrest someone without hurting that person.

I don’t think it’s okay. But since these things don’t happen to me, i remain ignorant to these problems. I know these things are going on. So, by your logic, i am a worse person because i haven’t experienced being harassed at the same level as you?
The Criminal Justice System is not perfect but it works pretty well. Police officers here in the U.S have a LOT of power. So much power that they can take your liberty and life if necessary and not be prison. They also have the right to use discretion which sometimes spills over to downright racism however their power of discretion also leads to potentially stopping crimes or catching criminals on the lose. Cops will always be viewed as the represents of the government in the streets and not many people like the government which is why as soon a few cops do something “outrageous” it will be highlighted by society.
