Hooking up the xbox with the optical cable is the way to go. It will give you true 5.1 dolby digital surround sound. When playing a video game where there is a sound coming from a specific direction, i.e. a waterfall in Halo, the direction that the sound comes from is very accurate. For example if you are facing it, the sound will come from infront of you and as you turn away the sound will still come from where the waterfall is in relation to the character. So when you are facing away from the waterfall, the sound will be coming from the speakers behind you. It is pretty kick ass. Also, sports games with the crowd noise is awesome.

tcb thanks
i just got back from best buy and i swear monster cable are a bunch of dirty bastards.lol y in the he11 can’t they make a s-video cable with fiber optic cable built in? can’t be that hard. but no, i have to buy a $50 cable that has s-video and regular a/v connections too, then spend $40 more on the fiber optic cable.lol i guess there’s more money in it that way. i asked the girl if they made one and she said no, i told her i only needed the s-video and not the regular a/v connections and she said well u just have to let them dangle.lol

Rob just picked up a 27" vega for $389 for the bed room. Have a 32" vega in the lr. I love em’ the damn 32 is pretty heavy though. Great pics and the price was pretty good on both.

Oh yeah plus bought the dream system for the lr. Havn’e hooked it up yet though. Waiting for the new house to get done.

The Verdict:

I saw the JVC, Toshiba and Sony all in a row at Future Shop and the Sony was far and above the better picture in comparison to the other two. It also has much better sound quality and the menu functions are much easier.

So I made a call to a guy that my Step-Father deals with and he gave me a price. He quoted me $540 CAD for the Wega which is $40-80 cheaper than the lowest advertsised prices, so I grabbed it. Getting the cable hooked up today (just moving in) and a DVD player.

Thanks for all the help. I was concerned about the warranty issues with the Sony, but buying from my step father’s guy means I’ll be taken care of if anything goes wrong.

Good choice. Sony makes a great set, I do not like their audio products at all. But as far as TV’s go, they can’t be beat.

I believe that the movie “Tommy Boy” summed up warranties in general. For the most part if you purchase a quality product and treat it with a little TLC, the warranty won’t come into play.

Good call TCB.

Good call.

This was an interesting read if anyone is interested:

http://money.cnn.com/2003/12/04/technology/techguide_flatpanel.reut/index.htm?cnn=yes

Also, keep in mind that to get the pic quality you’ll see in the stores you have to shell out some extra for the good calbes, etc.

Agathos,

I read that too at some point. But I have no intention to buy a ‘flat-panel’ because even if they come down in price 30%, they’re still too frickin’ expensive. The one I bought was a Flat Screen, but it’s a foot and a half deep. Not so svelt.

A funny thing about my cable coverage. I went to get basic cable and found out that it was the same cost for Digital cable as it would be for regular analog cable with a few specialty channels added on. So I guess I’m getting the good stuff afterall.

Sony Sony Sony as far as TV’s and personal electronics goes I wouldn’t get a Sony Viao Cpu though. Panisonic also makes great flat screen TV.
