Now that’s a cool toy I gotta say. I mean a racing sailboat?..okay you win haha.
Sailboats scare the shit out of me lol. My son and I went to an open house at the lake near my home a couple years ago where the locals take people out for a lap or two, you make a small donation if you want(I did) It was a boat a little shorter than yours. All was well untill we caught a good breeze and took off. My brain was expecting to hear an engine rev up so I instinctively looked back saw no motor, looked up the mast and I started to feel vertigo, after that it was all white knuckle.
I love canoing and power boats for fun and fishing, i’ve spent plenty of time on the water so my reaction caught me by surprise. Totally bummed that I got so nervous in a sailboat. I actually expected to see a motor back there lol, how fucking stupid is that.
The Maine-built sailing vessel Raw Faith, abandoned by its owner Tuesday after it began taking on water in heavy seas, sank this morning off Nantucket, Mass.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Connie Terrell said the 118-foot, three-masted ship went down at about 7:30 a.m. in approximately 6,000 feet of water.
“It’s not considered a hazard to navigation and there are no plans for salvage since it’s so far down,” Terrell said.
Are you a perfectionist who will always want it to look flawless? My dad is, and we spent waaaay more time fixing up our similarly priced, similarly long junk rigged boat than we spent sailing it. Will you use it so often that it’s worth buying and not renting?
Sailing can be great, it’s just that the other side of boat ownership isn’t always as fun. My 2 cents.
Ill probably just be using it in the summers and one other time during the year; so looking into renting prices may be a good idea. Although I would prefer my own boat.
Appearance isn’t a main concern. I just want to get out and sail.
