Over here a fairly big news story this past week was that Bush stated God told him to invade Iraq! Its funny because in this day and age of palm pilots and desk planners you’d have thought God would have made sure not to tell both Bin Laden and Bush conflicting things!
"…a couple of days ago Deputy Prime Minister of Palestine Nabil Shaath quoted George W. Bush as saying that God told him to invade Iraq and attack Afghanistan, as part of a divine mission to bring peace to the Middle East, but said he did not take the American President’s comments literally.
“But we never thought that he literally had God speaking to him,” Shaatha said on Friday.
Bush made those remarks during a meeting with Palestinian leaders more than two years ago, according to a new BBC series.
“President Bush said to all of us: ‘I’m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, ‘George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan’.
“And now, again, I feel God’s words coming to me, ‘Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East’. And by God I’m gonna do it’,” Shaath quoted Bush as saying."
Hehe. A bit of light relief in current events is always welcome. People on here keep saying I never look at positives that Bush does, well, he makes me and much of the world laugh heartily. Thanks George!
not me. though bush was not my first choice in 2000, i wanted McCain, i think he showed some promise after the 911 attacks, but not too long after that, every opportunity he has had to impress me and be a sound conservative leader he has utterly failed. i think he is on the right side of the fence on many(not all though) issues that are important to me, he just has not come through as a leader and communicator that conservative need in this country. i for one am sickened by Dem’s and republicans at this point.
they are all controlled by big business and special interest, and care very little about the middle class that pays the bills in this country. i am praying for a true populist candidate that will run as an independent, be a social liberal and kick the religious right to the curb, but be a true fiscal conservative and try to grow the middle class.
maybe mccain and biden or mccain and liberman will hook up and run as independents, i know, i know, a wet dream for sure, but a guy can hope no?

I don’t ever resort to name calling, but in this case I will make an exception. If you believe what you read on al-sleezeera, you truly are a moron John.
I saw a person on television who said he could not find any reliable source for Bush ever stating that God told him to invade anything, which he originally thought was true.
If anyone can find a true source for such a comment I would like to see it. Now I am fairly certain he prays for guidance, and asks stuff of god, but I don’t think he walks around saying god talks to him. At least not in the true sense as opposed to the figurative sense.

For all the haters of Al-jazeera if you read the article it was news broken by the BBC. As far as Al-Jazeera is concerned the Right-wing loves to tell me how much the Iraqis and Arabs love how we’ve brought them democracy, at least I go to an Arab source and find out what Arabs think! Or maybe Arabs don’t know whats good for them because they aren’t living in Fayetteville, GA and therefore clearly hate freedom.

I don’t live in the US but I like your style. Social liberal and fiscal conservative, too much to ask I think! I do however feel the economy (and I mean on the Western model, not just the US) needs to be reigned back in as pertains to the aims of and protection for corporations. As long as corporations are able fund think tanks and lobby groups in the way they do they will never been kicked to the political kerb.

Take a look at works by Joe Bakan, Joseph Stiglitz and Richard Douthwaite then you’re allowed to be a smart-arse. Maybe you could use an Enron book mark while you read them. Nah, who’d want to read a book that challenges our ideals? Pass me the blinkers!

No actually I’m allowed to be a smart ass anytime I want. It’s all part of our freedom here in the good ole US of A.
As for you and your brand of liberalism, well it’s just silly. As I have stated on another thread: John Gullick you are one silly man
