In October of 1942, under the Trading With the Enemy Act, the U.S. government halted operations at New York’s Union Banking Corporation. A bank official was charged with “Running Nazi front groups in the United States.”

His name: Prescott Bush.

Prescott Bush, father of future U.S President George Herbert Walker Bush and grandfather of George W. Bush, had been hard at work on behalf of his Nazi partners. In flagrant violation of U.S. law, Prescott Bush had worked tirelessly to launder money, procure raw materials, arrange transportation and provide guidance for the Nazi war effort and the German army he had helped to build.

In April of 2002, George W. Bush – standing literally on the bones of the men who fell at Normandy beachhead in mortal combat with that very same Nazi army – delivered his Memorial Day address. He said, in part, “This is a day our country has set apart to remember what was gained in our wars, and all that was lost.”

Let us remember.

As the German army came crashing into Poland, spreading death and destruction in its path, Prescott Bush continued aiding the Nazis.

As German tanks rolled through the Ardennes Forest and into Paris, Prescott Bush continued aiding the Nazis.

As Allied forces fighting to defend France were forced literally into the sea at Dunkirk by the German Army, Prescott Bush continued aiding the Nazis.

As German war planes rained bombs down on London, killing 50 thousand English men, women and children, Prescott Bush continued aiding the Nazis.

As millions died at the hands of the most ruthless and violent organization the world has ever known, Prescott Bush continued aiding them.

And of course, as Hitler and the Nazis planned and carried out the extermination of Europe’s Jews, Prescott Bush was an eager and active partner.

When did Bush stop? When we made him stop.

In this case, George W. Bush won’t have to worry about the US Government shutting him down. That’s been taken care of – he is the US Government.

As debate rages back and forth across the Atlantic over the morality and acceptability of this assault against Iraq, it is interesting to note the German position.

It was Germany who bought most completely into the war lie during the past century. It was the German people who, with their faith in country and leadership, and even their loyalty to the Fatherland, made possible the greatest nightmare the world has ever known. It is those same German people who stand today before Europe and the world in unflinching opposition to this latest world conquering force.

How well do the German people know George W. Bush? Better than they want to.

I can’t speak fully to Prescott Bush dealing with the Nazis, or what he thought of his son’s risking his life against the Axis powers but the logic here is oversimplistic. “War=bad”: yes we know, we’re glad you’re also socially adjusted…

Saddam’s motives in invading Kuwait were closer to Nazi Germany’s than American motives for liberating Iraq are.

Plus, I don’t recall Hitler protecting any ethnic groups in Poland and Czechnslavakia before he invaded them. In fact, his invasion was a prelude to exterminating Jews, Slavs and Gypsies, whereas our Congress’ policy of regime change included support of Kurds and Shiite resistance.

But if there is a couple things we probably agree on, Kuri. One is that our sanctions will no longer pile hardship on the Iraqi people while the Baathist palaces grow more opulent and the secret police becomes stronger and better armed.

We probably also agree that Saddam will no longer be able to dry the Marsh Arabs out of existence (which would have been a complete form of genocide, an elimination of a culture) at the cost of destroying his country’s renown ability (“the Fertile Cresenct”)to produce food for its people.

But some people Kuri admires like sour grapes with their captured mass murderers. In fact, to some people Clinton is actually a mass murderer for our bombing campaign in Kosovo (Michael Moore, who now supports the man who carried out and lobbied for the extension of the bombing). To each his own.

I’m also not voting for Bush, but for good reasons: the environment, profligate spending, higher income tax cuts, the prescription drug bill, etc.

(And if Kerry or Deans runs against GW…I’m just not voting for President.)

Good points everyone.But one thing screams out to me every election year.
Is this the best men that we can offer up,to presumably become the most powerful man in the world? God I hope not.I just find it discouraging that the people running for this office,without exception,turn into caricatures of real people.No one can be everything to everyone.I’d like just once,before my time is up,to hear a presedential candidate say what he/she really thinks.That,would be refreshing!

I am actually dumber for having read everthing on this post. What the fuck is wrong with your brains. My guess about why this hasn’t been on the news is most Americans (except you ignorant bastards) actually believe that one persons wrongs can be passed along through genetics. Nobody, including myself, said GWB should pay the penance for his grandpappy’s sins.

Kennedy was seen as one of the greatest presidents of all time, yet his father or grandfather was running alcohol during prohibition. Kennedy also has been accused of having ties to organized crime…so what’s your point. Also, Clinton’s father was a used car salesman and was a pretty shady character in his own right, but that has nothing to do with who he was.

As for corporations which were working with Hitler (assuming this is true), if you think that Bush was in the minority for doing that, you are far, far mistaken. Bascially every corporation was playing both hands. This was well known by the intelligence agencies who had to sort out the details on all of this, listing the connections on huge charts. For a good book on this intellience, read “A Man Called Intrepid.”

So, again, you have proved nothing with another irrelevant news article. Thank you again for dodging the true points and using poor logic and evidence to prove any sort of point.

To add on to Cory’s post, “A man called Intrepid” also details the acts of Joseph P. Kennedy, the American ambassador to England who was recalled by FDR for his pro-Nazi views. It’s been a while since I read the book, but if I remember correctly, there were people under Kennedy actively working to sabotage the U.S. aid to Great Britain. And once again, what does this have to do with GWB? My grandparents went to segregated high schools, and never know a non-white person growing up? Does this make me a racist?

Actually, it’s the opposite of what you say. It’s a little bit of information to help CONFUSE the process of making informed decisions (either for or against Bush).

Yeah, just like good ol’ Billy Carter, Roger Clinton, Hugh Rodham, Teddy Kennedy and the clan et al, I’m sure it’s an interesting story – not at all pertinent to deciding anything about the President, but an interesting story nonetheless. Maybe they should make a VH1 special out of it…
