This. And guys writing “I have had five guys” or “I like In-and-Out” without any irony whatsoever, is hilarious. Please carry on.[/quote]
I had my first visit to 5 Guys last week and this was on the bulletin board, front and center, among other notes from people praising the place.
The burger tasted more homemade than fast food, pretty good stuff. The fries were overhyped compared to what I’ve heard of the place.
I’ve literally had reoccuring dreams about In N Out over the course of the last year. The band I used to play with was from LA and they would rant and rave about how amazing In N Out is. Though, I’ve never had it.
I had Five Guys in Redbank, NJ while on tour there. This was before they exploded as a company and were all over the place. At that time it was the best burger I’ve ever had. Now they’re all over. I eat there fairly often. It’s still my favorite burger. Though, I don’t think any of them I’ve had here in Nashville have been as good as that first 5 Guys Burger I had in NJ.
Though, come 4/20 (how fitting) I’ll be in Los Angeles for the first time and best believe I am going to make a fucking day out of In N Out. I’m going to order EVERYTHING and eat until I’m sick. I can’t wait …Maybe, finally my reoccuring dreams will stop, though, I do enjoy them!
I personally think 5 guys is terribly overrated. Their only redeeming quality is the fries, but I generally don’t eat those and this thread’s about burgers, not fries.

Didnt we do a best burger in Houston thread last year sometime?

Yessir. I’m living in Portland now but I’ll be back home to get my burger on soon. Go check out the Hubcap grill downtown or King Biscuit in the Heights. They’re the best 2 I can think of off the top.

Portland Oregon? or Portland Texas?
If I go to the Heights do I have to take Prof X? Hubcap will do.
As a person that lives around the corner from both, I find myself going to in n out more based mainly on the pricing. I’ve eaten 5 guys 3 times now since it’s been open for the past few months, the first time I was unimpressed and pretty distraught at how much it costs. The second time I thought it was absolutely fantastic and I could clearly taste the difference in quality of the meat. Third time same experience as the second time.
Although I like 5 guys better, a 4 by 4 at in n out for around 5 bucks is just too hard to pass up.

Oregon, haha. If you wanna be trapped in the car with that guy that’s your deal. I’d fly solo, or at least sans the good doctor…

Just joking I dont even know this town at all, where and what is the Heights?
Token wants to take me to a strip joint, I figured Prof X loves burgers so he would be good company.

It’s a neighborhood near the Washington area outside of Montrose over the Shephard bridge. You in Houston proper or in the 'burbs?
The thing about In-N-Out is that it gets better the more often you have it. Or rather, every other burger starts to seems worse (read: less fresh, less high-quality) in comparison. Also, you need to skip the sauce (ask for “mustard instead” or “ketchup and mustard instead”) to truly grasp the freshness.
Who knows if the same is true with Five Guys, only tried it once

Strip joins have pretty decent foods too. “Id like to stick my beef between dem’ buns” Lol,Seriously though there are plenty of great places to eat around Houston that beats 5 guys and In-n-Out. Generally, mom and pop burger places are quality…make sure to check out Southwells,Princes, and Magic Burger. Theres another chain called “Smashburger” that might rival both 5 guys and In-n-Out.
I practically live across the street from an In-N-Out. You can’t really beat never-frozen meat, fresh baked buns, and very fresh lettuce onions and tomatoes. The potatos are sliced in house moments before being cooked. I don’t eat their food every day or anything but it’s a nice alternative to the other fast food places near me that rhyme with Schmcdonalds.
Can’t we just agree they are both good in their own way, one doesn’t have to win over the other. Plus most people don’t have a choice of which one is closer to them. I do prefer In-N-Out fries though and you can’t ignore fries in this kind of debate since that’s half your food and they kind of go together, they are the deciding factor if both burgers are good.

No! In-N-Out is the only way to go. Anyone who believes anything else needs to die in a fiery jihad by some guy who will be rewarded with 72 In-N-Out Double Doubles in the afterlife!
I was in LA last year and hit a few burger joints. In & Out Burger… big disappoint… nothing great there. Wendys blows it away and so does BK. Any 5 Guys I went to has been fine and if you order the large fries, be prepared to take some of them home or feed the birds.
