Bug: Killin It

Same thing happened to my pressing when I lost weight. You’re not alone.[/quote]

X2, and squatting also. Having an extra thick midsection/torsoe has some upsides.

Otherwise, kickass work my friend, and that was indeed a good bit of volume on deads.

Hey Bug, been following this log and really wanna say it’s awesome to see you make so much progress, it’s truly inspiring. I do have a question though. While you were dieting, you were like most ppl and seemed to hold your last bit of fat on the love handle/ lower back area still after everything else was pretty lean.

Then you updated pics and boom, wasp waist! lol. I was just curious as too what you contribute losing those last stubborn 5-10 lbs?? more cardio? lower carbs? or simply just lowering your calories overall??

which would you rather have… the pressing strength of a few months ago or the physique of right now? think about that one

dont beat yourself up brah, happens to urrrrryone

SH - yeah man, shit sucks. Dropping weight plus eating a restricted amount of calories is not super conducive to SUPAR PRESSIN POWAR.

Dove - thanks dude. people like you keep me humble, so I appreciate you stopping in, as always.

Spidey - honestly man, it was all a pretty steady progression. Things certainly were pretty damned tight near the end of the diet, but I didn’t make any huge jumps. I was actually probably eating slightly more carbs and a bit less fat, and I never really was getting “enough” cardio (I think I got in 5x a week maybe once or twice, lol). Just consistency. Thanks for droppin by sir!

Anywho, had a sweet back day so I wanted to jot it down before I forget. No music (buying headphones tomorrow) and still kicked ass. Wore a big t-shirt and felt like Roelly Winklaar. I feel like I’m forgetting an exercise, but I guess not. I was pretty winded by the end.

Pulldowns
100 x 15, 15
150 x 12
200 x 12
225 x 12 (thats the stack + 25), EZ mode.

2-armed DB rows - head jammed against the wall.
50s x 14 squeeeeezed.
70s x 10
90s x 9ish - tough to get them all the way up #thatswhatshesaid

One-armed plate-loaded machine rows
1pps x 12 LR
1pps + 10s x 12 LR
1pps x 2 10s ps x 9 LR - bracing against the machine with my opposite leg made my hip flexor cramp up hard, lol. Did some foam rolling after the workout was done.

Stretchers (kinda) but wide grip - didn’t like as much.
87.5 x 20
112.5 x 15
150 x 12 - too heavy lol couldn’t stay down dropped to something for a lot of reps.

Finished with stiff-armed pulldowns, 3 sets, last one for like a gazil reps. Stretched and moved on to bi’s.

Wide-grip ez-bar preachers
10lbs/side x 15
20lbs/side x 12
30lbs/side x 9 drop 20lbs/side x a bunch close grip drop 10lbs/side x back to wide grip for some more. wut.

Machine curls, 20lbs/side, 10 reps R, 10 reps L, 8 reps R, 8 reps L, etc etc etc, down to a very slow one rep.

15 min step mill cardio, helped loosen up my legs a little, hammies are super tight from deadlifting… ahhh and leg day is tomorrow! Then 10 min of foam rolling.

OH AND GREG, how could I forget. yeah man obvi! I may be pretty sad when I’m in the gym on chest/leg day bitching about my strength and when I write about it on here, but I’m much happier overall. at my fattest I was embarrassed to be shirtless even when home alone lol. bellyfat rolling over the jeans (with NO belt) FTL!

Yeah, I went from close gripping 325x3 to grinding out 275x5 in a matter of weeks :frowning:

This is true. I remember when you were generally regarded as a young guy with retard strength when it came to pressing. Your bench and shoulder press numbers were ridiculous. You are now regarded as the lean guy who has a knack for posing.

I seriously hate you, lol.

It wasn’t meant to be an insult, man. I wish I could pose like you do. I am just trying to be honest with you. Neither route is right or wrong. I am just glad you are no long pressing 50+ more lbs than me  (but you are no doubt leaner/more pleasing to the eye)

I hear ya… Belly rolls are no bueno

ajweins: Even though BugAD may be pleasing to the eye, I heard he’s still a virgin, so…

Just kidding. You, as well as a few others, are the reason I decided to de-pussify and gain some damn weight. I just finished going through the old BOI threads when you used to post all the time. Why did you stop.

Oh, and by the way, you should try to convince HolyMac to do a BB show.

aj, I know man. thing is, i’m really not an aesthetic dude, and despite you now being way ahead of me, strength wise, in my opinion you are much more visually appealing (no homo?). Should’ve stuck to my guns and stayed strong? live and learn! last year may have been a shit-show from a lifting perspective, but I had a great time.

hlss - those old threads are interesting, haha, and super nostalgic to go through. and LOL @ holymac dieting for anything. he’s getting ready to deploy to the middle east in the near future soo that prob won’t be happening anytime soon.

I stopped when the previous BOI group left T-Nation. When they restarted it up here I thought about joining in but you guys already had enough members and H4M was the new go to guy there so I decided just to let the new generation have its turn.

Thanks for letting me hijack Bug’s log.

And bug, I think that we always think we don’t have the best shape or look when compared to others. I don’t think I am anything special and not much different than you. I make sure that any pic I post of myself shows me in a “positive light”.

Killed it on legs today. I’m kind of sick of smith squatting so I wanted to go back to free squatting, partner was down but wanted to keep it high rep today, so we did some damage with 225. Felt like throwing up for the next 30 minutes.

Back squats
135 x 15, 15
225 x 50 (!!!), 40, 35 - used ebomb as motivation while unracking the bar, made the first 20 reps fly by.

proceeded to die afterwards.

Wall sits w/ an 80lbs DB in lap - 3 sets for ALAP. over a minute on each. shit sucks.

One-legged leg extensions with foot turned out - for da TEERDROPZ
70 x 12, 12, 10 LR

Seated leg curls - hammies were still tight from Monday. Just gave it hell on these.
90 x 16
110 x 14
130 x 12ish drop 90 x 9ish DROP 50 x 15. GOD HAMMIES SO PUMPED. prob looked like Kai Greene lolol. jk.

Machine calves, 2 sets of 20, seated calves, 2 sets of 20.

Some abs and lower back extensions.

Called it a day. Feel good. Taking tomorrow off, gonna be awesome. Shoulders Saturday, arms Sunday. wootwoot.

225 for 125 reps in 3 sets…then wall sits

Awesome stuff.

This reminiscing made me a little sad :frowning:

Solid shoulder day. Lot of people wanting to be chatty during the later stuff, no biggy.

Warmed up with 3 sets of 25 seated laterals with the 10s to loosen up.

Smith shoulder press
95 x 15
135 x 12
185 x 10
225 x 6
275 x 5 drop 135 x 20

DB front raises // partial laterals superset - low rest
35s x 10 LR // 85s x 20
35s x 10 LR // 85s x 20
35s x 9 LR // 95s x 15
–sat down with the 35s and did 2 sets of 10, full ROM laterals.

Cable rear delts - these were pretty “meh”
#3 x 12
#4 x 10 drop #3 x 10

One-armed DB rear delt raises
30 x 12 LR - 3 sets.

Barbell shrugs w/ 2sec hold
225 x 15
315 x 15
405 x 12 + some extras w/o a hold.

Some lower back and calf stuff. woot.

On smith shoulder press, do you count the bar as 45 lbs?

well I know the bar doesn’t weigh 45 lbs, but I just write it like what it would look like on the barbell.
