“The CDC and other health organizations report a higher incidence of Sexually Transmitted Diseases such as venereal disease, HIV, AIDS, and anal cancer, among homosexually active men and women than among heterosexually active people.”
Well we know for sure that the above can’t be right all of the politically correct liberals said that promiscuous hetors are exposed just as much to disease…GO FIGURE (shrugs shoulders)
"The Archives of Internal Medicine found that homosexuals acquired syphilis at a rate ten times that of heterosexuals.7 In 1999, the Center For Disease Control released data showing that male rectal gonorrhea is increasing among homosexuals amidst an overall decline in national gonorrhea rates.
The report attributed the increase to a larger percentage of homosexuals engaging in unsafe sexual behavior.8 In a study of the medical records of 1,408 lesbians, the journal Sexually Transmitted Infections found that women who have sexual relations with women are at significantly higher risk for certain sexually transmitted diseases, including hepatitis C and HIV.9"

Now who would listen to those right wing nut jobs?
"In their book MEN WHO BEAT THE MEN WHO LOVE THEM: BATTERED GAY MEN AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, D. Island and P. Letellier report that "the incidence of domestic violence among gay men is nearly double that in the heterosexual population."10 The Bureau of Justice Statistics (U.S. Department of Justice) reports that married women in traditional families experience the lowest rate of violence compared with women in other types of relationships.11
(Rolls eyes) Great! Now the US Department of Justice is in on all of this…this…hate information…Imagine claiming that married women suffer less violence when in a traditional family!
What the heck are they going to come up with next? (throws hands in the air)
Let me think, where can we find really really good information on how much pain that (many) homosexuals are really in?
I got it…all we have to do is listen to the main stream media, the gay lobbies, the liberals and the politically correct…they’ll steer us in the proper direction.

Forlife, Prof. X, Vroom,
…and all other “hateful liberals”
I’ve read this thread from the beginning, I’ve laughed at it, I had fun argueing with Lorisco, I quoted sources, I got angry, I got grumpy, I got hurt - and I now am happy to give way. And I think so should you.
There is no way we will come to a conclusion here. As much as I disagree with ZEB and Stellar, I am happy to give way to them. Not because I was convinced by their arguments - as I do trust in professional medical and psychological organisations, the stuff that I learnt in my psychology classes and my continuosly positive experiences with gay people - because over many years I have seen that their worldview has been inch by inch pushed back.
I understand that they see that as a threat - and that is good, as our societies need people who uphold traditional values, so that progress does not get mindless and starts being destructive. But what they perceive as a threat is positive progress to many of us. And as for the acceptance of homosexual relationships (whatever may be their cause), the last 50 years have been pretty good in the West, after centuries of persecution, in many cases harmful attempts at therapy and outright violence.
It is actually great that we have a debate here, and not all agree that gays should be killed, punished or therapied; and I am delighted to see that a majority does not agree with the sickness model (agreeing with the clear majority of health professionals).
Are there dangers connected to sexual behaviours? Fuck yeah - and there are many people out there who do dumb things with their knobs which cause suffering and death. Most of them are based on false information, and a hindrance to let science and education fulfill their humane goals. And that is something we all have to work on - including some dumb gay men who do dumb things, and some equally dumb heteros…
Fortunately, people who display homosexual behaviour have been less and less on the receiving end of that suffering - and as I believe in small steps towards a common good, I am happy with that. Has there been resistance? Yes. Has it been getting weaker? Yes. And that’s a good thing.
So, let’s cherish the “propaganda” movies like Brokeback carry - because a few decades back, they wouldn’t have been made. After all the denial of propaganda in the movie (and I haven’t even seen it yet), I can live with the verdict that it propagates (sic!) a zeitgeist that is much more tolerant than violent.
So my respect to all of you who held up their banners - and that includes ZEB, Lorisco and Stellar - give it a rest now. No one is going to win here, and no one has to, as society is changing as we speak and we have all taken our part in that.

I don’t think you would find a single so-called politically correct liberal that would not admit that gays have higher incidents of sexually transmitted disease. Anal sex by it’s nature transmitss STDs more readily. There is also more promiscuity among gays. You will find that highly promiscuous heteros and those engaging in unprotected sex even moreso have significantly higher rates of STDs than less promiscuos heteros who are practicing safe sex. As for gays, as I have said, I don’t see preventing anal sex as practical. At least not as of yet. But we should definitely be discouraging risky behaviors and other unsafe sexual practices such as unprotected sex and encouraging monogamy.
Why would ANYONE listen to Narth, and ignore the world’s major medical and mental health organizations, assuming they were genuinely interested in knowing the TRUTH about homosexuality?
That is the problem with Zeb. I have some respect for him. But he already knows when he thinks and when there is legitimate information that is the opposite conclusion he dismisses the people advancing it as biased.
Only when they are biased.
hahahaha! All of your sources are also biased. Because I say so. Because they in fact are.
Good points, Makkun. I am done as well. I have yet to see why any of these statistics about gays, assuming they are all true and the studies where well-performed with confounds eliminated, mean they shouldn’t have civil unions. SO many heterosexula marriages are a debacle, end in divorce, aren’t happy, etc… But many are. I see no reason why civil unions shouldn’t get the same right to have their shot [apart from the religious recognition], irrespective of whether even a lower percentage of them are likely to be succesfful. And I doubt I ever will.
The only argument that made any sense whatsoever was the effect such marriages might have on potential adopted children. But I still think that is a decision better left to private adoption agencies, as is already being done. As there are already adoptions to self-proclaimed gay couples (mostly lesbians).
It wouldn’t surprise me if Zeb just ignores this point again, and continues spouting Spitzer as if it actually supports his argument.
Are you nutty forlife?
They conducted telephone interviews two years after and not one had “changed back.”
You take that to mean that they are really harboring same sex attraction huh?
Wow sorry for you man.
In reality they stated they were quite happy as heterosexuals.
Think they were lying still?
Okay
Yes, everyone is biased against homosexuals…(eye roll)
The CDC, the US Justice Dept. And many credible research scientists…all hate homosexuals.
Yikes…(someone has a complex…or two)
Now if you don’t mind I would like you to answer something that you have been dodging for several posts:
Please tell me how each of these could be wrong. And if you leave any of them out I will assume that you have no answer and the study, or story is correct:

New Zealand study of 770 heterosexual men and women and 172 men and women who experienced different degrees of same sex attraction, the authors found: That attempts to inflict self harm increase with the degree of homosexual attraction. There were elevated rates of substance abuse in both sexes experiencing same sex attraction. This was particularly prominent in lesbians.

When you are finished explaining each of the above I will be more than happy to discuss anything else you like. If you want to move forward you cannot continue to ignore the facts about homosexuality.
As to your list, I agree with your statement “people generally cannot change their same sex attraction.” I would only add that if you take an average of all the studies performed the change rate would be somewhere between 30% and 50%. Hence, without a strong desire to do so I think change is rather difficult. In fact it’s difficult either way.
I never stated anything to the contrary.
Really, what is your point?
Are you claiming that no one has ever changed from same sex attraction to opposite sex attraction?
Why would ANYONE listen to Narth, and ignore the world’s major medical and mental health organizations, assuming they were genuinely interested in knowing the TRUTH about homosexuality?
That is the problem with Zeb. I have some respect for him. But he already knows when he thinks and when there is legitimate information that is the opposite conclusion he dismisses the people advancing it as biased.
Only when they are biased.
hahahaha! All of your sources are also biased. Because I say so. Because they in fact are.
I know the CDC and the Justice Department are freaking hate filled gay bashers LOL
He cannot. There is zero legitimate basis to argue a causal link between civil unions and increased promiscuity and risky behaviors. There is some logical basis to assume it will encourage monogamy and more stable lifestyles. Otherwise, the status quo will be maintained.
There is also some logical basis to assume it will encourage homsexuality. And until you or anyone else can prove how one becomes homosexual you cannot refute this!
Give me the logical basis. A causal connection please. Then I’ll grant you that.
Okay:
As long as no one knows how someone becomes gay,(and currently no one does) then how can you state that government sanctioning of gay marriage would not promote homosexual activity?
What (formerly taboo) subject that is promoted and sanctioned made less attractive?
Mmmm…I can’t resist. So the fact that legal recognition of gay civil unions exist is going to increase the physiological and psychological changes that constitute being gay that already can and do take place and its absence? Pretty weak. That is not a causal connection. It’s not even a casual hypothesis. A causual hypothesis articulates a specific mechanism by which a result comes about. One may be able to poke plenty of holes in it but it still describes a specific mechanism. Not: “No one knows how people become gay. Therefore, legal civil unions might cause more people to become gay because of X. More gays increases the liklihood of promiscuity.” You would need to fill in the X for it to be a real causal connection. Still, that does not mean that sanctioned civil unions would increase promiscuity in those who are already day. That would require a separate hypothesis. And I’m not going to give you the dots to connect for that one. You can figure it out yourself.
But I will give a specific mechanism by which sanctinoned civil unions might decrease promiscuity. Marriage constitutes a committment to each other and committment to fidelity for most people. This is true even with a justice of the peace and not a religious ceremony. Even in legalized civil unions that have already existed, there is an exchange of vows. There is a promise of fidelity. In a way there isn’t in it’s absence.
People take vows and promises seriously, in a religious context or any other context. If I say I will do something, I will try to do it. But if I PROMISE to do something, I’ll do everything in my power to make it happen. A lot of people are like that. Even if gays are inherently more promiscuous as you state, this is one more level of committment and one more thing to take seriously and additional impetus to be faithful. From the baseline of behavior without these promises and vows, the likely result is an increase in fidelity and monogamy when a committment is made analogous to marriage.

The politically correct rhetoric is bunk. There are two sides: one is for gay marriage, civil unions, or ‘gay rights’ and the other is against it. Both sides have their reasons. It’s a polarizing issue and both feel pretty strongly about it and are pretty vocal. It has nothing to do with political correctness.
Really? How many movies in the last 5 years glorified illegal drug use as a good alternative lifestyle? Now how many have glorified the homosexual lifestyle like brokeback?
Sorry Bro, but being gay is cool and PC and being a drugy is not.
What? Did you see How High? What about the movie that put Dave Chappelle on the map, Half Baked? Dude, do you get out at all? You have lost all rights to even pretend that you hang out in the real world.
And how many of these drugy movies received awards? Ooops, didn’t think about that did you.
Comparing serious drama movies to goofy stoner movies like half-baked is not reasonable. You have lost all rights to ever give movie advice!
What? Some movies like Friday, regardless of having received awards, are so well known they might as well be urban classics. It is very rare for any urban movie to get an award. Boyz N The Hood had an all star cast and didn’t get any awards. That speaks more towards overall bias of films like that than anything else. I could care less about any awards this movie got just like most people DO NOT CARE. People don’t base movies they watch on oscar winners. At least no one I know does this so you have no point. It winning an award shouldn’t even be the issue. You said that there were no movies that glorified drug use. This is FALSE. the movies that have are well known and are VERY POPULAR.
Anyone who is near my age and never saw Friday is probably someone I have little in common with.
Hey, I liked Friday, but the sequel was lame.
My point was that there are few serious movies that glorified drug use that are well accepted. The most recent I can think of was Blow! And it did not glorify drugs.
I agree with the bias against urban movies. But if you can believe that there seems to be a bias against urban movies (i.e. no awards), why is it so hard to believe there is a bias for gay movies?
Also, I’m talking about Hollywood’s bias, not why people go to movies or what is popular with people. Most of the time, the movies that are popular with people are not the one’s that Hollywood gives awards to. So perhaps that is support for the idea that the people are not falling for what Hollywood is pushing, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t really pushing an agenda.

I’ve read this thread from the beginning, I’ve laughed at it, I had fun argueing with Lorisco, I quoted sources, I got angry, I got grumpy, I got hurt - and I now am happy to give way. And I think so should you.

How about hit tv shows, like Sex & the City, where smoking, rampant promiscuity, drinking, and drug use are highly glamourized? Critically acclaimed and the recipient of numerous awards as well. It is hardly unique to this issue
Hey lorisco, when you find yourself in a debate with people who are not yet aware (or refuse to admit) that Hollywood is liberal…well you are sort of wasting your time.
Here is a thread I had from the last Presidential race. It points out quite clearly whose side Hollywood is on.

The CDC? Why what does that goverment agency know? :)
Hey man, stop confusing me with the facts, I want to continue to believe the hype because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

So you see, even in Zeb’s biased selection of studies, the “success rate” is in question. People don’t really change who they find attractive…only their external behavior changes. Even Spitzer admits that true change is “probably quite uncommon”.
And what is wrong with that? So what if a child molester continues to be attracted to kids. As long as he doesn’t act on it then there is no problem. No one here is the thought police. It is the behavior that causes the issues, not the thoughts.
Are you saying that if you think it you have to act on it? If I was married and saw a sexy babe, that wasn’t my wife, and wanted to get busy with her then I have no choice but to do the deed? Right? Just like gays, right? No choice!
Everyone (out of jail) has thoughts and feelings that are not the best actions for themselves or the situation. So we all, to some extent, control our behavior and don’t act on every random thought that comes into out heads. But you want us to believe that gays just don’t have that ability? They are attracted to the same sex and have to act on it?
So what you don’t get is that yes, many gays have become straight IN BEHAVIOR (not thought) and are just fine with it. We all need to control our urges, why should gays be any different? Welcome to the human race bro!

Wel,l after reading this post I have decided that this is among the top 3 worst threads I have ever read here on T-Nation. This thread must die. The opinions posted in this thread are a nasty scar on the site.
I gave up on this tragedy of stereotyping, prejudism and judgmentalism long ago.
The people arguing against gays today are the same ones that would have been happily burning witches.
My solace is…
Tiiiiiime is on my side, yes it is, yes it is.
This era of gay-hating will soon be a historical stain that people will hardly believe was ever possibe. That is generally what happens to unfounded periods of hatred and persecution.
Chalk another one up for organized religions… sigh.
