The information that you absorb more easily on these nootropics (I guess you could consider them “gains” like muscle gains); does it start to go away if you stop supplementing with these? Or will the information always stick with you?
I’ve heard that you should cycle these so that your body doesn’t build up a tolerance to these compounds, or become dangerous after a while (like Wise Guy was saying earlier). Is this true? If so, what would a cycling protocol look like?
Ok sweet. For someone like me though who is constantly being mentally drained (biochemistry student, medicinal chemistry research) it probably would help tremendously. GRE’s are coming up too…so these should come in handy.
Couple more questions (not sure if these have been asked before):
I’m looking at the structures of vinpocetine and aniracetam. They look like they are pretty organic soluble (although I’m sure the amine groups give them partial water solubility), so should I take them with some sort of fat to optimize pharmacokinetics?
Also, with these supplements, have you ever noticed a strength increase? Mostly from the choline I would suspect; similar to how Alpha-GPC works.

Biotest, are you seeing this, as well as the popularity of the other nootropic thread? Could be some serious money to be made on developing a powerful nootropic supplement.
(yes, I know you have Spike, but…)
I think both Spike and Powerdrive are sort of a combo of mind and body booster.
Works well. But isn’t exactly brain specific.
Meaning a product could be developed that would work much better, something that was more cerebral and less focused on physical performance.
I think the emphasis those products place on physical performance sort of pulls away from the mental aspect they bring, which is great, but still limited.
Exactly. Considering how many University students we have on here, to say nothing of people who just want to perform better mentally, it seems to me that there is an untapped market for a Biotest Cognitive enhancer. Spike and Power Drive do provide a mental boost to some extent but something specifically designed and marketed as a nootropic would do well, I think.
Dido-PimpBot5000 and Wise Guy.
I’d like to see Bio Test explore more into this area.
I posted this elsewhere, but maybe this thread could be a better spot. I am taking a stress/sleep/cortisol stack, with amounts of actives and frequency per day listed:
Phospatidyl Serine 600-800mg x 1
Bacopa 200mg x 2
GABA 1.5g x 2
Melatonin 2g as needed for sleep
Glycine 7g x 4
Vit C 1g x 1
Also, somewhat related sups:
Zinc 50mg x 1 or 2
Mag 160 mg x 1 or 2
Superfood 1 serving x 1
Fish Oil 10 - 30g per day
Milk Thistle 240mg x 1 or 2
Aniracetam every so often, maybe monthly
Are there any cycling concerns with these substances? I realized I’ve been pumping my brain full of goodies for the last week and wondered if there was anything I should be worried about, especially any crash from discontinuing use.
Any advice on the stack will be appreciated as well. I read most of the first thread here back in the day, but thinking about how I could improve this now from a noop standpoint (since for some reason I didnt think along these lines at the start) I feel I should at least add some vinpo, maybe get on the ani a little more regularly at least till I go through my stash and throw in that DMAE stuff.
If theres anything redundant I could drop that would be cool too, since I just kind of took the kitchen sink approach with things I liked in teh past.
Facinating thread! I am really interested in Nootropics and have been aware of them for some time now, but I havent really dabbled in them as I am young and foolish, and have been focusing on getting consistent with my fundamentals (ie. sleep, hydration, insulin management) as outlined on EM.
I looking to invest in a “back to school” stack in the next few weeks to help my memory and retention when I enter my 4th year of undergrad this september. I am a student athlete, so I train frequently and intensely on top of my academic load. With that being said, my supp list includes some general supps.
Here goes:
General -
Fish oils
Whey Isolate
Creatine
ZMA
Ginseng
Superfood/Greens supp
Could some of you more informed and experienced members help me out with dosages, brands, and usage directions related to the Nootropics? Especially details such as empty stomach vs. with meal, morning vs night, etc.
Ideally I would love to purchase these supps online, and they would have to be able to be shipped to Canada.

What’s a good brand of vinpocetine to use? I have noticed some come in gell liquid caps, and some come in hard tablets. Is there any difference? Currently using source naturals, is there any better brands to use?
I get 90 x 10mg caps for $8.95 from Physician Formulas.
I was under the impression that Vinpocetine specifically increased cerebral bloodflow, whereas Gingko increased overall bloodflow, thus having some additional benefits throughout the body. Would there be any synergistic benefit to taking both?
Anyone get sleepy or drowsy when taking vinpo?
Not sure if it’s my imagination or just coincidence that every time I start vinpo I seem to be drowsy all day. But then again I usually start taking it when I’m sleep deprived and need to focus, so not sure if it’s the sleep deprivation or the vinpo but it seems to make me drowsy even on rested days.
With the basic “herbal stack” that Bushidobadboy put up (Vinpocetine, Huperzine A, DMAE), would there be any adverse affect if one were to stack this along side Ephedrine and Caffiene?
Will taking nootropics affect your regular cognitive abilities? That is, if you were to stop taking nootropics would you get “dumber” than before.

Thanks in Advance!
Ephedrine and caffeine do not a good nootropic make. Why? Because they increase cortisol and cortisol has negative effects on memory formation in the acute phase and will cause atrophy of the hippocampus in the chronic phase.
No, of course not. These types of substances augment your natural function. They do not force things, like adderal or ritalin, leaving you withdrawn and unable to focus, etc.

Thanks for the response BBB!
Just in reference to the first Q&A, I was asking because if I were to run the classic fat burning E/C stack, along side the nootropic stack you laid out, would that be alright?

If I had circulation problems, such as cold extremities, I might get my thyroid function checked, but assuming that it came back in an acceptible (to me) range, then I might consider Ginko.
But ask yourself this; is it a good idea to expend metabolic energy increasing blood flow to areas that have no real need or offer no benefit?

How much metabolic energy would exactly be expeded by taking a couple extra Gingko caps per day? How significant would this amount be?
