So if you felt the need to discuss with your family and peers, and you discussed it, and their stance bothers you, stop discussing it with them.
You don’t have to convince anyone but your doctor. It’s your body. If you were doing something illegal, then maybe they would have reason for concern, but if it’s deemed medically necessary, just take your medicine and stop talking about it.
Appreciate your reply! As I said above I am not going around advertising my hypogonadism. I was discussing the general perception that the people have about testosterone compared to other hormonal disorders such as thyroid, insulin etc. The concerning part is not only the uneducated perception but even the Doctors, I don’t want to elaborate on that anymore, if you have read any thread in the t replacement forum, you’ll see how most are struggling to get a doctor even interested in listening to their problems just because the T word is involved. There are also Doctors who after doing due dillegence ( for a lot of money) say that you will need exogenous testosterone but not prescribe it as one is “too young” like testosterone is something to be needed when I turn 70 rather than when I’m in my early 20s.
Now, I am lucky to have a good set of doctors and my family in support so this problem is not directly pertaining to me but to the general male population. For my family and my concerns, my Fathers Cousin who owns an hospital and my urologist have been very open and supportive and didn’t give me any bullshit that most others get with “in my head” dialect and a hand wave. So I am blessed to have this and to be treated with utmost care.
Well, it’s not hard to imagine gym rats who just want legal juice, so you’re competing with their interests.
You don’t even have to tell people after you go on. People are going to believe what they want, in regards to test, especially if you look like you lift.
It would be easier on you in this argument if you decided to go on test, and maintained a beer gut and manboobs. The argument probably isn’t worth winning
I am a very fitness conscious person, i was obese as a kid and got into lifting but not like a gym rat stereotype. I was more into it because it’s a stress buster and felt satisfying. I got lean to a certain extent but never below that as much as I were to push and become more into managing my fitness.
So I fully intend to actually get some benefits from my years of knowledge and it’s an important hour of my day. So I do not think I’ll be looking like that if I don’t look like that all this while hypogonadal.
No I don’t think I’ll tell people unless someone needs to know the list of my rXs. There’s no reason to. As I said this discussion does not revolve around me, I was giving my side of the experience what a lot of guys face. I am lucky to have had good docs and sensible family members to understand that it’s not all that and is just like another medicine/bio identical hormone. But the perception of this leads to under diagnosis and suffering of a lot of people. Hence the thread!
With regard to the public’s perception, it does indeed seem negative. It seems like t replacement is seen as cosmetic only and not a real condition to the average joe. I’m currently keeping it to myself.
With regard to the pseudo attack on Equalo, I don’t think that’s merited. People come on this forum looking for advice. What else would this be for? I was thankful for his initial thoughts on my condition as well as his thoughtful consideration of others. Nobody I’ve seen is pretending to be a doctor.
Thanks for the kind words. It’s in my nature to be not selfish and that’s the only thing that brings me back to these forums. I want to be helpful as I have experienced the problems associated with the condition and it’s much more than sexual dysfunction, and as there is so much insistance on treating the root cause, it is in most situations the root cause for depression, to what degree of depression I don’t know. And when I do try to help, I make it clear that I am a sufferer rather than a care provider so it’s best to take my advice in that way. I do not suggest drugs( in fact, I’ve been healthy and didn’t even understand anything about any drug prior to being diagnosed), I suggest potential issues to focus on and that’s on the basis of legit knowledge from legit resources. I wouldn’t need to do so much information hunting and resource reading (like many helpful guys on replacement forum, who know 100 times more info than me) if the docs were doing it and cared more about patient care than cash and declining treatment for reasons not medically supported but on their opinion.
I would like to sail away from my forum discussions as well now if I am able to go back to my normal life which involves a job, and my hour of gym time and my time with Girlfriend and family and actually put all the stress and unambiguity of the condition and the medical practices to treat this condition behind me. That’s the only way to feel normal after this saga maybe.
I’m in the middle of a custody case with my ex… the opposing counsel asked for my medical records and a list of all rx medications I take as part of the discovery… initially my attorney said “no problem, answer honestly” but when she reviewed the form and saw that I listed testosterone, she had me change ALL the medical answers to “I have a family doctor and am in good health” for fear of my TRT being negatively received by the judge.
I got to thinking… the double standard of HRT for women and men is pretty fucking crazy. I mean, menopausal woman on HRT, people don’t blink an eye… a dude on test “OMG roid rage”. Not cool… but it’s definitely happening.
This sums up the whole point of the thread. Thanks for sharing! It’s as if being on TRT is a choice that a person makes instead of a medication that is supported by a clinical condition.
I can’t put a finger on it as to where, but I saw a thread abou How a man was DENIED a simple physical check up at a hospital as he listed testosterone in his rX list and the nurse/receptionist said “we don’t do these things here.” After supposedly giving him dirty stares. Now this is something unacceptable, you’re not illegally using heroin for god sakes, it’s an hormone which the body produces and a component of the rX list is obviously indicating that it’s prescribed by a medical supervisor obviously due to a medical reason.
And in my opinion, HRT whether for male or female is different when one is 50 and requiring it and from a younger person requiring it as a younger person with lower T levels is obvious signs of dysfunction rather than Premature Aging side of it. And even then we see Doctors, supposedly hormone specialists sending patients away saying 250-300 TT is normal.
Hang in there Equalo. Your replies are needed to help many of the folks on the forum. Screw all those who think TRT is legal “juice”. There is a big difference between seeking normalcy and supranatural levels of hormones. I just started feeling better last week and this week my energy is back. I actually feel like working on house projects again after work instead of lying down. I don’t feel like a superman, just closer to how I did just 2-3 years ago.
