I’ve tried to see it twice now, drove for like 40 minutes just to find out every show is sold out. I’m really looking forward to watching it someday.
I’ve seen a few snips of his act here and there and to be honest with you, the character reminds me too much of Andy Kaufman. And I REALLY hated Andy Kaufman.
I will be honest and say that it is not that funny. There were bits that made me laugh, but a lot of the humour was very simplistic, crude and not done as well as others. I personally think South Park is a lot more funny, and it does a similar type of crude humour.
Part of the problem was that the film has been hyped sooo much. After all the hype I expected more, but what I got was the same jokes as he did in all the chat show appearances. Seeing him trying to kiss the cheeks of men is only funny so many times.
Also a lot of the best jokes were in the trailer, and were not as funny second time round.
The type of humour that I liked from Borat on TV was when he would interview ppl and say homophobic, racist, sexist things. The reaction from the person being interviewed wuld be great. There was not enough of this kind of humour in the film.
Saw it, and it was really funny - but I must say I expected it to be funnier.
Maybe a victim of hype for me. But it was quite humorous and SBC is a comedic genius.
I was expecting a whole lot less staged stuff and more Borat candid camera.

Seconded

I saw it last night, and it WAS quite hilarious, but right after, we ran into The Departed just as it was starting, and it was the most amazing movie I’ve ever seen, PERIOD. Everyone needs to go see the Departed. Borat just pales in comparison.

Well, I got hit on the freeway and rolled my car three times down a 40 foot hill. So no Borat for me. Maybe I’ll give it a second shot today.

Yea, I had gotten out of my car without hardly a scratch, and was standing at the top of the embankment with the car that had hit me and sent me out of control (someone hit them from behind, sent them spinning into my passenger side, which sent me out of control). The paramedics arrive, look at my car, and ask how many fatalities. I’m just thinking, “Fuck, now I can’t see Borat.”
Well, that’s not really what I was thinking, but making light of situations is how I deal with it. Anyways, my night sucked.

Well, I agree with you in some respects, but you’re kinda comparing aples to oranges here.
Departed is directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Jack Nicholson.
Borat features an extended scene of two naked men wrestling.
The only thing they have in common is that they were both shot on film. ![]()
“This movie not recommended for children under the age of 3.”
hahahaha!!!

Thank you! That was bugging me too.
I do think the clips I saw are funny though.
great success…

That scene was hilarious. I loved the reaction of everyone at the mortgage broker’s dinner.
The film actually had a plot, and wasn’t just a random load of sketches.
I too was not going to bother seeing it due to all the hype, but after being roped into seeing it, I enjoyed it a lot.
I would say it dragged a little bit towards the end, but that would be harsh criticism of an otherwise great film.
It’s good, I laughed a lot, but it’s not as funny as South Park: The Movie and Team America. I laughed so hard at those two my stomach cramped.
Without revealing too much, I just wanna say that there’s a scene near the end where he’s in hollywood where I laughed so hard I cried. I’ve never seen a comedy where the audience laughed as loud.
Absolutely hilarious. Everything I hoped and expected it to be.
Did anyine else catch that he was speaking Hebrew when talking in what was supposedly Kazak? A brilliant little in-joke between Sacha and other jews, especially hilarious when doing the commentary during the “Running of Jew”. A funny little twist to all the anti-semitism.
