I’ve never been a fan of reading, but my gf introduced me to Angels and Demons and I loved it. Ive read the first couple pages of both angels and demons and the da vinci code.

right now I plan on reading all the books in the series, but when im done do you guys have any books you recommend similar to that.

really into history and science
The first couple of pages?
Yeah… i’ve read the first 30 pages of both. Little premature to say i love them?
No, they’re both good enthralling books, it was just that you said you loved it but read a few pages…just a little funny.
I see what you’re saying. I guess I used the word “love” because I have honestly never had an urge to read a book before, so being excited to read a dan brown book was a new experience to me

Yeah, he knows how to end a chapter so you need to read one more.

Talking about trash novels…any guys here ever read Mack Bolan books?

I read about a dozen in high school. I picked one up for shits and giggles last time I was home and it was fun.

They come out every month and are made by the same publisher that makes Harrlequin Romance books.

The above pic is what the covers generally look like now.
Yeah I used to read these as a teen. Also the executioner series. My dad got me reading Mickey spillane as a kid.
You mean the Destroyer? Like Remo Williams? Because The Executioner is Mack Bolan’s nickname.

I read Spillane too. It’s too bad all his stuff seems to be out of print. I fell in love with his stuff by the thrid page of The Last Cop Out twenty years ago.
Sorry, yeah that is it. Haven’t read any in a long time.

Is Mack Bolan the guy with the Desert Eagle?

Just finished another Detective Harry Bosch novel by Michael Connelly. Good series if you’re into that stuff.

Ozzy Osbourne’s autobiography was hilarious.

I think in the 90s he always had one in the books, yeah.
Before that he had an ugly piece of shit called the .44 AuotMag.

Then I have read one or two of those.

Currently reading American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis.

I absolutely loved the movie and I thoguht Christian Bale did an amazing job… HOWEVER… This book is so much more vile and twisted than the movie, I can understand how they didn’t add a lot of this on the screen as it would be way too much. Bateman is such a vain and disgusting human but I can’t stop reading about him.
Just bought another book by Easton Ellis as well though the name escapes me, can’t wait to read that too.

Started this yesterday evening

Good read, more depressing than the movie. Only fault is I finished it way too quickly.

How did you like this one? Loved his other two.

Have you ever read Three cups of tea? some controversy over the veracity but I thought it was a great book.

I liked it better than the kite runner but nothing compares to the heart wrenching mess of emotions I felt at the end of A Thousand Splendid suns.

In this particular book he uses a different style than the others. It starts off with a single family and branches off to each member’s life and other people who are related. Essentially each chapter is a story within itself. I really liked the style very much.

The Great Gatsby - meh, was alright I guess, but I find that the characters and problems were generally were… un-relatable.

How old are you? I read this book like every 5 years…it’s awesome and makes me cry everytime, but I’m thinking when I was younger I probably didn’t care for it…I’m 42.
I’m 19. That’s why I find it a little unrelatable; other than the spectacular imagery and detail the author uses, the concepts of love and sacrifice, among others, are something that are still foreign to me.

So currently I am trying to read Ada, or Ardor by Vladmir Nabokov. I bought Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky and decided I would try Ada first because I found Lolita to be so readable where as I found Dostoyevsky’s Notes From the Underground truly a headache to understand. I was soo wrong. Ada is arguably one of the most complex books I have ever read. I always heard you should read all his other books first and save Ada for last. Has anyone else read it?

What are your thoughts on Lolita?
