It looks harder than it is, I believe. There are regressions for it too.
For the basics there is less chance of injury I believe. I think some of the advanced stuff can definitely have high risk, but that stuff isn’t even necessary for most. Being upside down even in modest exercises like skin-the-cat freaks me out sometimes.
- iron cross
- Maltese
Both ring skills (advanced/elite gymnastics)
Watching someone perform these will make you cringe… Talk about high risk exercise!
Wouldn’t train to perform these unless you can shed a lot of bodyweight. Used to have a buddy who could hold an iron cross on still rings. He had some amazing arms.
Right. They’re not for regular exercising people.
You aren’t a “regular Joe” who exercises though. You’ve completed in bodybuilding, front-squatted 335lbs for (20?) reps etc
For all I know you might be doing weighted dips on rings with 225426lbs attached.
Just an observation, you seem to be rather driven towards accomplishment. Not that you’d want to due to the risk of long term discomfort, but iron cross probably wouldn’t be an impossible goal for you following 5+ years of dedicated training on the rings + a decent weight cut (drop in muscle mass that is)
Thank you.
315 back squat for 20. I think Stu had that front squat.
“Impressive! Most impressive.”- Darth Vader
Damn mate, those 20 rep squats worked so well you’re still carrying the mass years later.
Very good build good sir. May I ask how tall are you and how much do you weigh?
Should be noted I believe brickhead has trained consistently in the past for like 20-25 years.
Impressive physique nonetheless
It should be noted that is the power of consistency.
5’10”. I have not weighed myself in weeks but last time was 187 and my muscle memory is working. I’m doing legs every 4 to 5 days but not destroying myself with those days. Everything for legs is weighted cals with GHR, hyperextensions, and single leg stuff with KB or dumbbells.
As said in previous posts, training in 2020 was awful.
You can check my contest prep thread in the BB section I started in 2016 for my only BB show. I look different now, but as said, my training interests of a lot different and, above all, practical now.
I’m aware of his background. It should be noted it was definitely intended to be tongue in cheek.
Thanks. Only got super consistent later in my 20s but ever since the home and kids the consistency for the past few years was spotty. I’m aiming to get back to real consistency, waking up very early sometimes.
Thank you!
I can relate to that. I have also competed in 1 bodybuilding contest. I don’t plan on ever doing another one but I enjoyed the experience. Just like you, my training is now geared towards more practicality. Training for me is only 3 days a week/ full body, and restorative activities on my “off” days. I find I still get about 80% of the results with about half the effort.
Anyhow, great build dude and great job.
I myself might have to switch over to bodyweight and/or unique styles of training myself. A hernia appears to have popped up. Unreal24278 doesn’t want surgery/to be out of the game for six months.
Deadlifted like 160kg (355lb)x12 the other day (weigh slightly under 160 for reference), this isn’t consistent with the little piece of intestine poking out of my bellybutton
Thank you. That’s really the most practical. Three to four days with other activity on other days. I cannot stick to more now.
Do you train at home only now? That is what I do as I have a pretty decent garage gym and backyard. I must say I’ve been more interested in training outdoors in nature over a fluorescent- light-poured globo-gym.
