Why dont you do OHP?

[quote]DixiesFinest wrote:

it is really painful on my left shoudler. I had surgery for a torn labrum and my ROM isnt 100% (probably 90) so I cant do OHP without lots of pain with a barbell. it sucks

This is coming from someone with ZERO powerlifting experience so take it for what it’s worth, but I think you need to work on strengthening your grip. With your strength you should be pulling close to 5-hundo. Shit, I can pull in the mid-4’s with no straps at about 175lbs and I do deads like 5 times a year. You don’t want to get out-pulled by a guy with “white” and “flash” in his name do you? GET ON THAT SHIT SON!

To add on to what WF said, good pulls, but yeah dude you got more in you, I’m sure. Load up a heavy bar and unrack it, hold for 10 seconds, and re-rack it. Try that for a few sets next time as a “finisher” and you’ll be crying. Did you get a spotter for deads, to remind you to PUSH THE HIPS THROUGH!? LOL

I’m going to have to figure out how to do kayak rows at home without a cable setup. Hmmm…

Oh and what was your score for bowling, broseph? I went bowling recently and got my usual crappy 130ish. God I suck

Shouldn’t you be out shooting free throws or something?

It’s well known that the handlebar mustache + american singlet combination increases grip strength by a factor of 10

You could try Liquid grip instead of chalk it works pretty damn good and no mess

HUMP THE BAR!!!

I just like sayin that…

[quote]Kalle wrote:

Or he could use lube, which will force him to grip the bar even tighter…

Flash- My grip strength has always been my Achilles heel. My grip gives out way before anything else does on back exercises as well as bi exercises (Thats why I finally got the straps about 6 months ago?) My grip has always been lame and i’ve tried to fix it with farmers walks and by just hanging from the pull up bar for time but its still lame. I’m working on it though cause I know it is a huge limiting factor.

Ink- Yeah man… I know about the grip! My best bowling score that day was a 160something. Not that good. I throw the ball with a big curve and when I leave the pin in the right corner (10 I think?) I can almost NEVER hit it so I end up with a lot of missed spares lol. Bowling is pretty fun though. My other two games were a 130something and a 140something

scj- I’m really hoping that the stache/singlet combo pulls me through (PULLS me through… get it! pun)

Kalle- I’ll look into this liquid grip business… This isnt just some super strong guy prank and the bottle is actually just full of super glue is it? I’m on to you and your tricks…

MiM- It is fun to say huh? I’ll make sure that I’m thinking that over and over before my attempt

Didnt get into the gym today and its arms day… go figure lol. I always skip arms day. My bro, sister in law and niece came down for the day and then my fiance and I are going to my buddies wedding tonight. I’ve never been to a friday night wedding before though.

I’ll try to make up the arm workout tomorrow if I can. Thanks for the comments gentleman (and lady)

Iquid grip is a chalk like stuff with alcohol in it, you slap it on then the spirit evaporates and your left with really good chalk that doesn’t make a mess, the smell reminds me of hangovers though.

Your strength keeps getting better and better, if you can get your grip up with the method inky suggested I think you’ve got 500 at the meet.

I’m giving kayak rows a try tomorrow, they’ve had a lot of hype!

so basically all of you are powerlifters and Im just um, the fst-7 dude?

its cool

I’ll just chill out over here squeezing my muscles and doing cables

I’m gonna stop trolling your thread at some point… just wanted to mention, I’m not PL meet expert but if you are squatting/deadlifting in front of a mirror, you’re gonna want to learn how to do without if I’m not mistaken on the setup there.

Ct, it’s your skin tone, lighten up! (LOL for double meanings!)

Greg, scj’s right again. Practice squatting without looking at the mirror. If you have to, just close your eyes and do it.

Ah thats right, I knew that…

To second what everyone else has said, you gotta get that grip up. Most meets provide chalk, but you dont want to have to rely on it to make up for a shoddy grip.

Squat looking away from the mirror. I broke myself of always lookin at one, and my squatting got better.

If I was as sexy as Mr Greg I’d have a hard time not staring in the mirror too

I refuse to lighten up!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Steve- I’ll look into that liquid grip for sure. Sounds pretty legit. 500 by the meet? That would be siiiiiick! The kayak rows were ridiculous man.

Rock- I wouldnt say that I’m a “powerlifter”… I’m just doing a powerlifting meet. Maybe I’ll mix in some FST-7 and be the powerlifting FST guy???

scj- troll away man lol… I am squatting and dling in front of a mirror but I dont look into the mirror on DL’s. I’ll stop squatting in front of the mirror though if I can. Good looking out .

Ink- I dont think it would be possible to squat with my eyes closed… that sounds like a huge recipe for disaster for yours truly lol.

DF- Yeah my left shoulder sucks. I’m gonna probably just get some chalk and sneak around with that a little bit but I’ll work the grip too. I was going to today but I forgot until I was walking home from the gym. I’ll work on some static holds.

Kalle- ha! you and your golden tongue! I’ll work on it.

Rock- glad to have you back in my log again.

Ok so I skipped arms yesterday and decided that I needed to get after it today. Last night was my buddies wedding and we were out in Point Loma… it was beautiful! There were quite a few of my old navy buddies there (including the groom) so needless to say… the drinks were flowing like wine lol.

I got to chatting with the father of the bride and he was a retired army radio operator and we swapped stories about jump school at Fort Benning and some deployment stories. Their family is mexican so guess what happened next? TEQUILA SHOTS!!! lol… it was fun but a looooong night. At least it was Patron. Only slept for 5 hours last night but hit the gym for some arms today.

new avi is a pic from the gym today. it’s my best Bug impression. So i’m at the point where my stomach looks kinda like jello (for lack of a better comparison) Everything else has really tightened up and is looking good and (relatively) lean but my stomach looks not so awesome when my abs are flexed… super lame. I think it just means that i’m close (hopefully close) to dropping that fat and looking really good. Just updating you guys.

Anyone have any big plans for this weekend?

Looking swole as usual greg!

My big plans for the weekend involve working night shifts and over time so I can cobble together enough money to pay off my university registration fee come September, don’t feel too sorry for me though :stuck_out_tongue:
