Hey all, seen my doc about a year ago with symptoms of low libido, mild ED, fatigue and moodiness, we decided to start TRT. After starting on Androgel 1%, 2 pumps, took 1 week for it to kick in, everything was fine for about 3 weeks then crashed, upped the dose to 4 same thing, up to 6 and so on. recently I’ve hit another crash being on max dose per day, I’m seeing my Doc in another week and a half, wanted someone who knows some stuff to check my labs and point me in a direction to feel better as he’s pretty good at taking suggestions.
A few notes…
Diagnosed with Vericocele, and Diverticulae
currently taking
Omega-3 3000-4000 mg per day
Citrilline Malate 5 grams per day
Milk thistle with tumeric 1000 mg per day
Grape seed extract 200 mg per day
1 a day vitamin EOD
vitmain d 1000iu sometimes
Magnesium Glycinate 300-450 mg per day
lab note, if there is no result, that wasn’t tested. any and all help is most appreciated.
Thank You.
What sort of argument should I be bringing up to go in that direction? He’s gonna see that the Bio and Free T are up. I’ve dorta mention shots once in conversation, but that was before I went to max dose of gel, since then T is higher than before I started TRT.
Thanx.
You need to find a TRT specialist immediately, any doctor prescribing androgel isn’t very knowledgeable and doesn’t specialize in TRT. These doctors barely understand how to help you.
Thank You for the advice/opinions, My Doc has told me a couple times that the numbers arent everything and asks how I feel, which is how we ended up on max dose of gel.
Definitely gonna bring up injections, probably be a hard time selling him on self injections, dont even know anyone who does it here in Canada
(Aside from gym folk). Hopefully I can convince him to do a weekly shot rather than the 1 per month or bi weekly they like to throw out there.
So after my last appointment, Doc referred me to an endo, so during that appointment, after explaining to him what I was going through, he looked at my last bloodlabs and told me he saw nothing for him to do in that sense.
Told me I did not need higher dose of test, (not what I was going for) snd that I had a choice of staying in it or going off it and asked if I felt a difference from when I was on and off, he also told me injections were fine and dandy, just another delivery method.
Fast forward to this past Friday, My doc had finally heard back from the Endo, his office assistant phones me and tells me, my Doc wants me to stop androgel immediately, give blood in 2 weeks and see him in 3. I explained a bit what the Endo and I dicussed and she said there were a bunch of notes on my file but this is what he wants you to do, and document how I feel while being off.
So my question is, anyone know what I am to expect from this?
More of the same, because endo’s are mostly into thyroid and diabetes and not TRT.
You need injections as there are no absorption issues, injectable T is 100% absorbed. Your doctor will probably prescribe 200mg every 2 weeks which is what the guidelines state, this is no better and often worse experience than having lower than normal testosterone.
You need a minimum 50mg twice weekly injections per week. You need to find a private doctor who prescribes TRT on a daily basis and not only on occasion.
It took my 2 years to figure out my dosing frequency and dosage that provides the best results, along the way I found multiple mineral deficiencies which landed my in the hospital no thanks to my clueless endo.
There’s a guy ay my place of work on injections, but he has to go to Doc’s office every friday to get them. If you are referring to one of my earlier posts, I meant doctor sanctioned self inject testosterone.
This is no way to treat a grown man, children with type 1 diabetes are taught to self inject insulin and grown men are treated like invalids. Any doctor forcing weekly office visits doesn’t have enough confidence in himself so patients can be self reliant.
Modern society is creating a bunch of mental weaklings, if nurses and doctors can learn to inject patients, than patients can learn to self inject as well.
Your ALT levels are barely elevated, the liver can see elevations being sick, oversupplenting vitamin C (first hand experience) and poor diets. It’s possible a supplements could be causing the elevated ALT’s.
TRT improved my liver enzymes and improve insulin within days and can improved glucose control within 6-9 months.
So I went for a blood test today, and will see my Doc. On tuesday afternoon. The CBC looks fine but still waiting for Chemistry results to come back, he tested
TSH
Total Testosterone
PSA
I have not taken any Gel in 2 weeks and feel like hot China Garbage. My question now is, I still have a full pump of the gel, would there be any issues taking the gel if on Tuesday Doc. Puts me on Injections, would I even feel it between now and then?
(I know you can’t judge how I would personally feel, just a generalized answer based on how the gel is supposed to affect people) Thanks again Guyz.
Next time you get bloods drawn ask the doc to do a full iron panel with ferritin & B12. Your mch & mchc are lower end. Nothing to really worry about but could indicate you would benefit from iron and/or B12. Don’t take the iron unless you get bloods showing you need it though. B12 can take today and definitely benefit from it regardless. If you do here’s what I recommend and take myself after much research and using shit that doesn’t work for years. You’ll feel it on day one. $8 for 2 months worth. Doesn’t matter how much b12 is in your multivitamin as it isn’t absorbed in pill form. These melt under your tongue in 30 secs.
Finally had my follow up appointment with my Doc. Went over how the endo appointment went, we have agreed to switch to injections.
The Endo sent a dosing reference, advised 100mg of Test every 2 weeks… I said “what? I put that much gel on my body per day” he agreed that it was a bit weird.
So, I’ma run out the last bottle of gel and in the time he is going to correspond with endo and do a bit of his own research. But at this point I have no clue what kind of test, am I doing it on my own, or getting it there or bringing the bottle back to him. I also asked for the shots to be SubQ. Any thoughts?
@weldjockey
Personally I wouldn’t get to indepth with him about it if you got him to do injections. Asking for sub-q and all that may make him think you are getting in over your head (especially if he isn’t in to TRT). Just do sub-q if you want to do sub-q. Obviously you know the guy and can determine what the best move is I’m just throwing that out there so you don’t have issues.
