Black Tea?

I’m usually skeptical of stuff I read in fitness magazines, but I was reading about black tea and it’s affects on reducing cortisol levels. Anyone hear of this? I’d be interested in trying some.

Just did a google search on it, seems like it’s known for stress hormone supression(ie cortisol reduction)

Haha, I drink around 4-5 cups per day, but then I do live in jolly ole england!

I have a very stressful job and usually get around 5hrs sleep per night - but lifting etc is progressing well so maybe it does something… who knows!

Cool…I’ll have to try some.

I’m fond of black tea, both hot and iced and I am certain that it lowers stress. But whether it is some “magic” ingredient in the tea or the act of sitting down for 10-15 minutes and relaxing while I drink a cup, I don’t know. I don’t think it really matters.

I drink it and Green tea. I also read that 12 oz of black tea lowers the GI of a meal by 40%.

White tea is the best.

I love irish black tea, but oral grey-I think this is black- is by far favorite. Its definitely relaxing reading and drinking some tea but I don’t notice anything else.

Do you mean Earl Grey? Earl Grey is indeed black tea.

I like mixing chai black tea, any fruit flavor teas, and any of the Celestial Seasons teas with a packet of stevia. Good stuff.

I’ll bet you like Oral Grey Tea. I like Earl Grey Green Tea. I don’t think it has the benefits of black tea though.

I read somewhere that it is good to drink both because they have different chemicals. That’s probably one of the reasons why.

Just found this. This article says that cortisol is a necessary hormone response for muscle building and being anabolic.

I’m sure it is. But these days most people probably have too much, rather than too little.

I read just the other day (sorry, dont remember where) that adding milk to tea reduces the health benefits. From what I remember, it had something to do with the caesin in milk binding to receptors that have something to do with EGCG.

Anyways, moral of the story, skip having milk in your tea.
