I see no examples of systemic white oppression in my life either. But I live in the north. You live in the second most “progressive” city in the country. The north is mostly over race.
It’s a little different in Mississippi. The plants I’ve visited in the deep South the whites and blacks sat separately in the lunch room. The South is different. If you look at conviction rates in the South for white vs black they are very different (one example).

Completely agreed. We’ve certainly come a long way since Jim Crow (proudly), but to deny that it doesn’t still exist in certain institutions or “systems” is simply proof you haven’t interacted with the real world.
I’ve seen it - directly - with my own lyin’ eyes. Example? A manager over a division at a company I once worked with was told by a C-Suite member to stop hiring so many blacks. Here in the 21st century, not that long ago. True story.

But I will take small issue with this - the North doesn’t quite have clean hands here as much as one might think, and that often gets overlooked given the caricature of the South.

Well, I also forgot to mention non-white celebrities and athletes earning seven to eight figure salaries, many of whom choose the oppressors’ women, white women, that is. I guess even with all that wealth and power and enough intelligence Necessary to earn all that wealth that it’s still possible to have Stockholm Syndrome. Interesting…
Well, the economic opportunities in America are far greater than most nations to start. Mexico, for example, is a shit hole. South of the US border, the per capita crime rate are astronomical comparatively.
I don’t buy into the systemic oppression thesis either; however, I don’t wholesale deny it either.
It’s funny, every Thanksgiving I sit down to a pretty multi-cultural dinner table. My extended family includes a 90-year-old black guy, his 60-year-old black son, and my mixed cousin. So, two of the three generations were old enough to remember the Civil Rights movement having lived through it. My father (white obviously) remembers when his school was integrated and actually has a few pretty funny stories about it. My point, if I have a point, is that we aren’t very far removed from a time when systemic oppression was a very real thing in the United States. Most Gen X’ers and beyond grew up post systemic oppression, but they were raised by folks that lived it day in and day out. The repercussions of that are hard to quantify, but it doesn’t make them any less real.

Any time. I love cats. They’re like unintentional comic genius.
One of my personal favorites was to take a few feathers (fly tying) and made a little cat toy bird. Then used some mono-filament and tied it about half way up the ribbon of a mylar balloon. Then I teased my cat into attacking the bird, which yanked the balloon- and made the cat run with the bird- causing the balloon to chased the kitty all over the house.
So now the wife thinks I’m nuts.

That must have been a riot to watch. Ha, you’ve given me a great idea for some serious laughs. We have dogs and cats. All I have to say is “whose that”? to my dog and his ears perk up. I can drive him crazy thinking someone is trying to get in. He will go from door to door and window to window. I tell my wife that it’s guard dog training. But she knows better when I’m on the floor doubled up in laughter.

Surely they have horrific practices too, yes. I personally am not pursuing the noble savage line but would like to point out that cultures considered enlightened also have these same practices throughout history–Greek Sparta and infanticide, Geece and Rome and pedophilia (“Servant boys”), rape in numerous cultures as a spoil of war or custom of “primae noctis”, etc.
Many practices, customs otherwise considered anathema can be seen up through the Industrial Revolution.

That video speaks volumes of truth from my perspective. I have a German Shepard who fears nothing. Well almost nothing. He will absolutely not screw with either of my two cats. I keep thinking that it’s just a show of respect. “Hey I don’t any trouble man I could hurt you.” But then again I’m not entirely sure.

So people know you’re Jewish as soon as they look at you?
It’s like walking past African Immigrant physicians in the hospital. Normally we assume they’re “Black” but they are quick to disassociate themselves from African Americans. People from the Caribbean are the same way.
