Bill to Restore Habeas Corpus

I agree that the Constitution’s provisions obviously don’t extend to foreigners, although we should all be concerned when our country is kidnapping foreigners from a third nation, torturing them, and then dumping them in rural Albania (German Muslim whose name escapes me, should be a cinch to Google).

But what about when U.S. citizens are designated “enemy combatants?” Have any of you followed what happened to Jose Padilla, the alleged dirty bomber? This is a U.S. CITIZEN, who was held on a naval brig for 3 1/2 years, is now finally being charged, and the Pentagon has mysteriously lost his interrogation tapes: 2007 Ferrari first owned by Trump sells for record $270K - Breitbart . This isn’t scary? I’m honestly baffled by people who aren’t worried about the huge expansion of executive power under this Administration.

I agree with Neph in this way: its not the responsibilty of the United States Gov’t to protect everyone on the planet or who happens to be in the country wearing dynamite vests. The Constitution is an attempt to model a society on principles of justice. It assumes that a citizen won’t be wearing that dynamite vest.

And anyone who has or is trying to initiate violence against others abrogates their rights, except those granted by the Constitution.[/quote]

It’s not about other nations people damnit! It’s about OUR people! The right to a trial is being threatened in ALL AMERICANS, not just foreigners.

An “Unlawful combatant” can be ANYONE. Not just a non-US citizen.
