i don’t think a guy in a halloween costume would even put a dent in irwin’s family.

I agree. The man wasn’t taking light risks here. he was putting his life on the line every single time he wrestled an alligator or picked up a poisonous snake by the tail with his bare hands. We aren’t talking about someone who lived life wearing a safety helmet. I was always waiting for something serious to happen.

It is sad simply because he seemed like an overall nice person, but to pretend like he didn’t basically mock death daily is a little ridiculous. Who really cares that someone wore a costume of that?

Steve Irwin’s wife and kids would care.

As I’m sure do the wives and kids of any other famous person who gets made fun of or trashed constantly. What do you think Michael Jackson’s mother feels every time someone calls her kid a freak on tv and laughs at him…again? Are we just caring about select families here when it comes to jokes and insensitivity?

Further, why are the people who scream about how bad being politically correct all of the time is the same ones screaming the moment someone offends them? Isn’t that…oh, I can’t think of the word…something to do with protesting something yet acting the same way as what you are protesting?

Would I personally ever do something like that? Of course not. But I also wouldn’t lose sleep over some super-rich celebrity trying to find a way to stay au courant in the media by doing it.

Compare hunting and killing and dressing/preparing your own meat. Animals that lived to that point in thier natural habitat to buying meat from animals subjected to hormone injections, overcrowding, shitty feed, dirty air, limited freedom of movement, not allowed to reproduce etc.

Wild game animals are the ultimate “free range” food.

maybe…but only if they are ingrates.

his life was so full and larger than most people’s, i just don’t see them caring for a second about what bill maher has to say. they know what their son/husband/father was about more than anybody else. they lived it too. people who live like that see death differently than most.

what did death get from steve irwin ? absolutely nothing. if anyone has ever cheated death, 1,000 times over, it’s this guy. he didn’t leave a thing on the table. in the light of a life as exceptional and exemplary as that, i don’t see any possible source of hurt by merely representing the truth.

who’s to say maher was even making fun of him at all ? was he cutting him down @ the party or something ? looks to me he was celebrating steve irwin and he admired him - it was HALLOWEEN ! would it be better if he was dressed as dracula or btk or dick cheney ???

I agree, not letting Maher’s antics affect them would be the moral high road but that wound is still fresh (no pun intended) and they are so young they may not know the difference between social commentary and contempible mocking.

By the way, Maher was making fun of him and does not admire Steve Irwin. This is not my opinion, the guys actually said it on his show. This is strange because Irwin was a conservationist and environmentalist. Maher is associated with PETA whose mission would seem to coincide with Irwin’s. Although, I’ve never heard of anyone accusing Irwin of corruption and coersion…

No, I’m not being selective. Where would you get that idea? We’re talking about Bill Maher and Steve Irwin. As for the rest, what’s your point? Just because people mock Michael Jackson doesn’t it make it right either.

What does this have to do with anything? Steve Irwin? Myself?

Here you’ve hit the nail on the head. I’ve fallen into the trap of bringing more attention to sensationalism. If every just ignored such cries for negative attention, they would go away.

if johnny knoxville or steve-o died doing some ridiculous stunt would you guys feel the same way about this ? would those guys be fair game for costumes ?

There’s a lot to fault Ann Coulter for. But I don’t think lack of intelligence is one of them.

I completely agree. It’s all in how people perceive their message. Ann Coulter will say something off-the-wall with the intent to get a reaction, and sure enough half the people are pissed off and call her disgraceful, the other half kind of sheepishly laugh and say she’s trying to be funny. Bill Maher does the same thing, and those same people “outraged” before now pass it off as “he’s keeping it real by politically incorrect.”
Maher usually tries to have a point. Coulter, as you yourself said, is simply going for a reaction — she never really “says” anything or has a point.

Good point. Bill Maher isn’t making fun of Steve Irwin because he was a conservationist, he is making fun of him because he deals with animals in a very dangerous way. I assure you there were safer ways of dealing with snakes/other animals than what Steve Irwin displayed. There were no safety suits, nothing. Just his tan colored outfit and a pair of brass balls.

He lived dangerously because it made people tune in and become more interested in wildlife, but there are great risks involved when you do this. He should have been more cautious. He got 3 feet away from “danga”, as usual, and this time luck wasn’t on his side.

This is stupid as hell. Coulter always has a point even if she is wrong. She is actively promoting the conservative agenda.

Maher usually has far less of a point.

the only “point” i get from every coulter argument is “i’m gonna piss you off so bad you’ll fuck me till i don’t remember tomorrow”. that’s her primary motivation. maher i think just likes to argue.

I think this is proving my point

well yeah, except i’ll bet maher doesn’t fuck like a girl w/ low self-esteem.

With clever lines like: “the only good liberal is a dead liberal”. Hell of a way to promote a conservative agenda.

Between this and the alleged “gay eye glaze”, you are the one who continues to look more stupid by the day.
What in the hell are you rambling about?

You claimed Coulter never has a point.

She always has a point. Her point is liberalism is bad. She may be wrong, you may disagree but she is making a point.

You on the other hand just seem to be trying to pick a stupid fight.

Let me get this straight - if your father was killed by a sting ray and you saw a guy dressed up like him you would go over and say “now that’s funny”?!?!?

You fucking moron!!!

Oh yeah that’s hilarious.

I’m thinking of wearing a steering wheel around my neck and a beer in my hand next Halloween. Get it? I’m a drunk driver! Oh, your best friend was killed by a drunk driver?

Oh well, it’s offensive. It MUST be funny.
