I also agree with you that parents really do have a duty to not buy junk and teach their kids how best to eat but not be afraid to have a little bit of this or that. I think when kids sneak food you are creating another problem.
whatever it is, so many problems, you sure see how hard it is to fix the results
Very hard.
It is hard! I grew up with food being with held all the time…I got three squares a day…My mom hid all the junk, and I was always sneaking it And then of course I’d get in trouble. I didn’t realize that it was a problem until recently when trying to get this weight off…It’s not that I crave stuff, but when I restrict it, it makes me want it more…it doesn’t help that my husband has a fast metabolism and grew eating anything and everything he wanted, and still does…he’s the one that buys all the junk…
I won’t with hold treats from my kids. I have a 6.5yr old and a 17 month old, and both very active…we encourage good eating habits. You don’t have to be part of the clean plate club, but if you are still hungry later you can have fruit or veggies…treats are just that…treats and only on ocassion
I thought of submitting my MIL and myself for the BIGGEST LOSER, but it would have been too hard to coordinate the taping that is needed to submit…besides that she is wife to a farmer and works her ass off everyday(she’s a nurse) and I don’t think they could take the hit of money loss. Besides while I am clinically overweight, I don’t think my bodyfat is high enough to lose as much as the people on that show do.
It’s all about Rollerblade tag around the highschool, or neighborhood, everyone knows that.
Hey I was talking OLD SCHOOL STYLE!
I bet it would be pretty hairy on rollerblades. I also loved my Big Wheel. We had a HUGE hill that we would race those suckers down. Thank goodness my parents never saw us playing or I would have been on restriction for life.
Obesity and being overweight comes with a load of issues\obstacles that slow people down or stop them completely from trying to loose weight.
A total change of life style… not only eating healthy foods instead of cake cake and more cake…but also suddenly moving off your ass and having to be much more active
2.People are conditioned to want results now!!! if it doesnt happen the next day its a waste of time.
People are so uncomfortable with their body that many think they wont look good if they are fat or thin so why bother… they may even think they look better fat.
4.People dont like admitting they have a problem
the list goes on.
Am I trying to justify a person being overweight? No but its not exactly easy… theres a difference between simple and easy.
See kids have all the fun and they don’t even know it! I say we play some of these games at the seminar. Red Rover would really become a blood sport. I don’t know if we could do Bike Tag, but Freeze Tag would be doable, and of course Spin the Bottle.
It just dawned on me that none of those games require money. I wonder why more kids aren’t playing them. I suppose it may just be more dangerous out on the streets or at the parks. But was it? Or does it just make the news now?
I do know I didn’t eat fast food or drink soda every day or even every week.

My friends and I still play dodgeball whenever we can. That never gets old.

“weight” loss is pretty easy, just restrict your calories severely and exhaust yourself for extended periods with exercise
fat loss on the other hand is much trickier
sure i could go on 800 kcal a day and drop from 215 to 140 but say goodbye to all my gains too
Recently, for the first time in my life, I actively tried to lose fat/weight. It was only 7 or 8 lbs over a couple of months but I found it very difficult to get to 56 kg (123lbs) and maintain my strength. If you’ve done it before it may be easy but I don’t envy people who have to do this on an ongoing basis. My normal diet is quite good but this entailed way too much thinking about food. You know it’s bad when you stop with the sex fantasies and start with the food fantasies.
I bet the biggest loser people don’t think about sex at all. I had some pizza on Saturday night so I’m good again.

No doubt. I think everyone indulges, which is ok. Everyone is prone to that type of eating behavior every now and then. That is what makes us normal. However, it is the people that keep indulging that are the problem as they see nothing wrong with what they are doing to their body and then they wonder why they have all these chronic disease processes. At least you are aware and can differentiate between good and bad eating habits (including moderation which means they don??t have to eat everything that is served to them). That counts for a lot. Weight loss is not easy with all the temptations that surround us. The weight issue is a constant battle for most on a daily basis. However, I feel you have a good idea on how to eat right, lose weight, and exercise. That hard part is to do all those 3 things on a continuous basis. Consistency is the key. Genetics is another issue but not an excuse.

That is becoming the norm, not the exception. Which is sad, if you really think about it. I have seen one year-old kids weighing 40 pounds. The parents put no restrictions, heck they can’t even put restrictions on themselves.
40lb baby? Even I find that hard to believe.
It may be hard to believe but it is true.
I was kinda hoping you were exaggerating for effect.

I saw a kid so fat yesterday working, he had to sit IN the cart, not on the child seat, IN THE FUCKING CART. And since there was no more room his mom just had the groceries laying on his lap and stomache.
A little off topic, but you guys remember that legislation a bit back (not sure whether or not it ever passed) to try and make it so there had to be a certain amount of overweight people in commercials and such?
And of course we all know how companies are generally required to be able to prove that they don’t discriminate against races/sexes/religions/sexual orientations and what not in the hiring process?
Well I’ll bet the next step is making companies prove they don’t discriminate against fat people in the hiring process. Now all companies will be required to have a minimum of 10% of employees that are clinically obese.

On that note, I should get to sleep.
No way!!! I hadn’t heard about that legislation.
I remember a few years back a gym chain got in trouble over their billboards that said something like, “Remember, when the aliens invade, they will eat the fat ones first.” and ones that said something like, “Out running a fat person could save your life.”
They had to take down those billboards due to public outcry.
I remember seeing it one time (don’t remember what season) but one dude who was some ex-wrestler or something ended up not only losing the fat but gaining a ton of muscle. I mean he looked jacked (from what I remember). He also won the show.
I think letting your kids get fat is basically child abuse, but you only have to look at the parents.
I just don’t understand it. I might be naive but if you are a fat parent I would of thought the last thing you want is for your kid to get like you. As a parent you are in charge of what your children eat. I can almost understand not having the motivation or the will to lose weight yourself but really how hard is it to ensure your kids eat right? In the case of children if you don’t give it to them then they can’t eat it.
All this rubbish you hear about it costs too much to eat healthy is bull shit too. For 2 adult meals and 2 children’s meals at Maccys you are looking at about £12 - I don’t know about in the US but in the UK I can buy 4 fresh salmon steaks, broccoli, carrots and peppers for less than a tenner and I know what I would rather my family ate.
There is a woman at work who I estimate is about 280-300 lbs with diabetes. I talk to her about her diet and try to pas on some tips but she constantly maintains she hardly eats anything. However I sit near her and know what she comes back to her desk with. Supersize lattes, cake, chocolate bars a stream of junk food all day long. I really don’t know how she can sit and tell me she eats nothing all day. I thought about suggesting she kept a food log for a week but seeing as I have to work with her I felt it might be a bit too confrontational… this is the same woman who when I suggested she ate more fruit told me it could play havoc with her diabetes.
I have not seen the show but fair play to the people who are in it. Even if there is a monetary incentive at least seeing them lose some weight might inspire others. Its people who just make excuses that annoy me.
