No i dont raise chickens although i would love to. If i was back on the farm i would be raising animals. But they are farm eggs that we buy, mature hens. I joke that i have an “egg dealer”.
We had one too!
One of my classmates actually owned a farm on Chongmin island. All the moms in the WeChat group would place orders for eggs.
Still didn’t taste as good as the immature eggs though. Sometimes if I was lucky, the ducks we’d buy for soup would have immature eggs. THOSE were heavenly
I have never had duck eggs…but i would totally try them out.
You’re REALLY missing out. Higher fat content → creamier. The white is also thicker.
What kind of chickens are producing double yolks consistently? Is this common in some varieties?
For me personally, I find that fat is great for sustained energy and cognition. I used to eat a tbsp of butter as pre-workout and it always felt like I was on rocket fuel. I also find fats good for recovery and literally make me happier
With that said, I’ve been experimenting with having honey or dried fruit (basically pure sugar) before bed instead of my typical yoghurt, cheese or nuts and have noticed that I feel more energized/recovered in the mornings
Well i have never actually been to the guys farm, he isnt really having people come to him cause of covid. I know that most of his hens are white leghorns, but according to google its 1 in 1000 supposedly that are doubles, and triples are very rare…so why we have gotten so many doubles and the occasional triple i dont know.
I find i have way more energy on fat so far. I dont get that kind of energy on carbs.
What about hunger? If I eat low carb then I’ll get an insatiable hunger. It’s different than normal hunger, but if I eat a bagel then it’s instantly gone.
Sorry for the long post @Frank_C
So far hunger is fine, but thats because of using fat as fuel. If i was lowish or moderate fat and low carb…idk. I have done keto type stuff, carnivore and the anabolic diet in years past, almost all for physique goals, and even then didnt have much issue. I do well on fat.
But heres the thing with me too, and maybe this is what makes the difference, but its also why i had to switch. I have had non diabetic hypoglycemia for many years now. It actually started when i was a teenager. But as i have gotten older, my issues have gotten way worse…i started to just keep my blood sugar high all the time…constant eating, always hungry too…to try to combat myself. I figured if i kept it high, i would avoid the crashes for the most part. The problem is life happens…and the lows were really bad. I was eating clean stuff for the most part too, but clean or not blood sugar and insulin get spiked by carbs. It got to be too much…couldnt do it anymore. I dont know if i put myself in a pre-diabetes state, but i knew i had to manage things better or i would be paying for it more than i already was.
With high fat low carb, your blood sugar is kept low and level, way easier to manage. Eat plenty of fat and a good amount of protein, keep carbs low and good things happen…at least for me. I wouldnt advocate that anyone or everyone should do it. Pwn mentioned something about not taking in fat in your post workout meal, and that makes sense cause an insulin spike at that time is what you want, so i will be doing that too.
In the past, when i did keto and carnivore, i didnt have any issues with strength. So far i am still good here too. I started reducing carbs several weeks ago and have gotten to this point now. For me fat is more satiateing than carbs and i can get away with going a longer time between meals, and just eating big at those meals…as in less meals per day. On carbs i was eating something like 8 meals a day…some were small of course and more like a snack than a meal, but it was to try and manage blood sugar in one way or another…not physique or performance related.
That makes sense. I don’t have any dietary restrictions or motivating factors. In fact, I’ve probably had 10 handfuls of peanut m&ms today. It was a poor choice to buy the 3+ lb tub at Sam’s. ![]()
Well they are tasty haha. The other thing is i have to be gluten free, and with this way of eating its super easy
Heres some meal prep. These patties are organic and grass fed lol…cause they are moose patties! A friend of ours got a moose a while back and gave us these patties. I’ve got a hhuuggee painting job im starting tomorrow, and i figured if i had these all cooked up i could easily just take a couple for the meat part of my lunch. Im gonna have a couple for supper too…time got away from me here so its gonna be a late supper.
Btw…moose is one of my favorite wild game meats…cooked right a moose roast is amazing. I want to try more bear too though, the only time ive had it was in the form of meatballs and it was cut with pork. Still delicious…but i want more. I honestly prefer moose to deer, but deer is great too.
Holy crap that was the best tasting piece of meat i have had in a long while. Im really looking forward to lunch this week
Game meat is the best!
Before moving to China, we had a friend who hunted venison. My grandma used to smoke it with rice in a cardboard box- most delicious meat I’d every hs
Well roasted rabbit is also really good
So @T3hPwnisher recommended that i look at Jon Andersen stuff, and while i have obviously not looked at much cause the recommendation was only yesterday, i did a brief look. Wound up getting a free copy of his e book…it talks about nutrition, has the beginner/intermediate/advanced deepwater training programs and more. So we will see what i get out of this stuff i suppose…
I start my painting job today…its a big one and later this week im gonna be trying to finish a different job after hours, so family time/training and life in general will be strained this week.
My plan was to do a bigger upper body workout tonight and then see what i can do later in the week, if i can do anything. Considering how work will be i will be this week i will be focusing more on spending whatever time i can with my family. I did do some intermittent training throughout the day yesterday too.
In regards to my wifes health issues…while part of it has been figured out, there is still other parts we are trying to figure out. I wont disclose much right now, but a couple possibilities are scary and if she was diagnosed, depending on how things progress, life could start to look very different as time goes on. But im not gonna say too much till we get some of the other tests done and talk to the specialists.
Oh no! I hope everything is okay!
It’s definitely a good thing to get multiple opinions. My friend had a pretty big scare with her thyroid (potentially cancerous lump causing severe hyperthyroidism). Turns out it was just a relatively harmless nodule that didn’t even need surgery
Well she has had ongoing health problems for a long time (started when she was a teenager), and we have never been able to pinpoint anything, but finally we have doctors that are taking her issues more seriously. Hopefully something comes of all this
That is so frustrating!
Proposed workout for tonight (once the wife and kiddo are asleep)
-Chest press ss w./ kb row 3-4 sets
-Dips ss w./ straight arm pull down 3-4 sets
-Ohp variation ss w./ face pull 3-4 sets
-Side raise to failure on full rom, continuing w./ partials
-Hammer curls ss w./ banded tricep push down
-Concentration curls or some other strict curl variation
