I don’t really think you want me to do that as I think most of your posting in the Trump threads showed ignorance my man .
I also enjoy being free to speak my mind. I’ve often said this is about the only place I even remotely talk politics. You can get banned on here if you try hard enough. But you haven’t said anything that would get you banned on Facebook. Not that I would recommend posting on there but you haven’t just FYI. I have people on there who post a lot of far right stuff and no big deal.
Maybe I should rephrase I do enjoy and also view it as a sharpening stone. But as far as enacting or pushing forward anything concrete it’s about as poor of a use of time as could be. Volunteering for local campaigns or other stuff is a helluva lot more productive in terms of spreading like ideas than a frankly poorly trafficked (compared to how it used to be) section of a bodybuilding forum. Don’t get me wrong I’m not trashing PWI, clearly I love t-nation forums but just being frank.
I’ve changed some minds but a lot of it has been trivial type stuff and that’s about the only things I’ve really seen. Easy stuff to demonstrably show is false through google. Big ticket stuff? Incredibly rare. I don’t care how good of an argument you lay out on here most people are entrenched enough that it’s not happening. Which is fine I think that’s most people.
Sure, and you can say that may come down to their bias or whatever. But you also can’t say that it’s NOT because they’re financially unable or whatever.
In any case it (meaning potential hypocrisy) doesn’t have anything to do with the ethicality of murder or the rights status of the unborn, which is how this argument is framed.
Possibly. But again, does this have any actual impact on the ethics or philosophy? We’re talking logic vs practice here. I know they SHOULD always align, but they don’t. But I don’t think that inherently makes it any empty position.
I feel like it would be redundant as didn’t everyone attempt to do that with each other in those threads?
That’s ok. I mean clearly if I thought it wasn’t worth posting at all I wouldn’t do it. I enjoy and have enjoyed the t-nation forums for years. But as far as thinking it’s productive in a political sense? Nah.
No, you should really do it. You can’t claim you can make a case, then brush off making the case as if it isn’t worth your time.
Again, this is narrative weaving. You paint a story that most of my posts pertaining to Trump demonstrated obvious ignorance, but when asked to provide even a basic explanation of what informs your evaluation of my ignorance you find a way to blow it off.
Now you’re retreating to an argument of nihilism on a politics discussion sub-forum. Nothing matters, exchanges of ideas don’t shift individual opinions, there’s no need to back up the ideas I express in writing because they’re inconsequential, etc.
As your precious hero Joe Biden might say if prompted to say so…
Oh I don’t think it’s just not worth my time I don’t think it’s worth yours either! I think going back through an old Trump thread to find posts I thought were ignorant to start a new thread.
If it will ease your mind I should not have said most of yours posts. You made a bunch and I’m sure plenty of them had good points even if peoole disagreed.
I think you’re taking this a bit seriously and I don’t know why. I thought my tongue in cheek comment was obvious. That’s why I threw the smiley on.
Because it is a discussion about serious policy that has serious consequences. To be clear, I’m talking about the policy consequences, not the consequences of discussing the policy.
Again, I encourage you to make the case of my own ignorance. Please shine a light on that.
You are correct here, but I think at least some of them are virtue signaling. It happens where doctors recognize women coming in who they recognize from protesting outside. Maybe cognitive dissonance, but I think some are virtue signaling.
My point was that there is plenty of this in both sides of the isle. Not that two jar actually said that there was only one side here.
A tangent I shouldn’t have taken.
I do think it could be something in the middle, but owners should be generously compensated in eminent domain cases.
Without knowing any specifics about the policy or the individual circumstances in which Eminent Domain was applied, I’m fine with this. Throw cash at the problem and make it go away. We’re talking about drop-in-the-bucket expenditures here. Concerns about eminent domain seem to be very low on the scale of national priorities.
That is true. I just felt giving a reason that i think one with a some what libertarian minded outlook would potentially agree with for something like being opposed to a pipeline.
I guess I wanted to show that not everyone opposes the pipeline for the same reasons.
This should give you chills. For all of Trump’s so-called “attacks on the press”, Trump did not do anything to limit anyone’s ability to speak out or get their ideas out there. There’s no more slope. We’re at the bottom. Approved speech only from now on, which oddly includes seemingly everything from Islamic Terrorism, gang recruitment, left wing calls to violence, and pretty much anything besides expressing conservative opinions.
According to the Biden handler administration, “More needs to be done.”
Ah, come on! This isn’t government limiting speech…these are private groups. So what if Facebook doesn’t let you post certain things? Use another platform. It’s no different from what the government told black people last century(1960s) about just using another store or service.
Excuse my ignorance, but how does menthol cigarettes have anything to do with African American voters?
Through anecdotal experience I thought menthol cigarettes were generally what girls or “newer” smokers would use because some find the minty flavour initially more tolerable.
Still don’t understand the vested ideology behind marketing a particular tobacco product to African Americans.
Perhaps African Americans were smoking cigarettes at lower rates than their caucasian counterparts thus R.J Reynolds tobacco company (manufacturer of Newport’s) decided to create a unique niche to cater towards this demographic, get them hooked and increase rates of virtually every disease known to man (lol) within the population.
I suppose the rhetoric behind banning flavoured/menthol tobacco cigarettes resides within the notion of hoping fewer kids take up smoking. Akin to what’s happened in Australia, a ban creates an underground trade. Not that it’ll be particularly popular, but illicit imports of menthol cigarettes will probably become “a thing” just as imports of tailor made cigarettes in originally packaging sold at a fraction of retail price have become extremely widespread here.
From what I’ve noted, public education campaigns and marginal price hikes (marginal, the ridiculous price hikes in Aus made little difference here after a set point) seem to be the most effective deterrents.
I think people should be allowed to choose to smoke if they want to… But I certainly don’t think it ought to be encouraged. Smoking tobacco is seldom encouraged in today’s societal paradigm, advertising is banned. What’s the proportion of smokers per capita in the USA? Like 10%?
Australia still has menthol cigarettes though… So that’s one nanny state point for you guys and twelve million four hundred forty four thousand nanny state points for us in Australia. It’s getting closer!
