Odd, I don’t think of myself as looking particularly scary or threatening. ![]()
Cycle 6, Week 3, Day 1:
Warmup: usual, plus 10@bar, 10@65
MP: 5@100, 3@110, 5@125 (PR)
Pullups: 3x5
Accessories: None. In about 3 hours, I get to go check out Wild Iron Gym, meed Marcus Wild, and do some bench ME work with the team. I’m already wiped from last night’s TRX and today’s MP max load, so I didn’t want to push it.
I also saw an ENT specialist this morning. My sleep doctor said I should get turbinate reduction surgery – basically, removing some of the soft tissue inside my nose – to help me breathe better and get more oxygen. The ENT said the in-office procedure wouldn’t be effective, so I go under the knife next Thursday so he can surgically remove some tissue, as well as shave down the underlying bone. He said I should see a 50% increase in airflow through my nose. Maybe now I’ll stop panting like a dog in the gym!
Anyway, this works out well, since that’s when I’m supposed to start my deload, and I’m supposed to avoid “strenuous activity” for about 10 days. I figure I’ll just stay out of the gym that day and the next, hit the deload the following week, and by then I should be fully recovered and hopefully can start training with the Wild Iron team on a regular basis.
That’ll mean I’ll be off the 5-3-1, but I’ll be on a Westside program, surrounded by guys (and women!) tons stronger than I am, used to competition, and more than willing to help me grow. I’m optimistically hoping to add 100 lbs to each of my lifts in the next year. Which, when you think about it, I would do for the lower body on 5-3-1 anyway, and I think the direct coaching will help a lot with my presses.
Weight: 247.5.
