I was raised in the Catholic church and was forced to do all kinds of ridiculous shit like go to CCD and serve as an altar boy. I stopped going to church as soon as I was old enough to refuse but unfortunately I’m still “officially” a member of the Catholic church.
Recently the priest at the Parish I used to attend was ousted for molesting children, and I decided that enough was enough and that I wanted to officially divorce myself from Catholicism. So I went through the proper channels and sent a petition to the Archbishop requesting formal defection, and I just received his response refusing my request.
Apparently he believes that he has the authority to dictate which religion I will be a member of and I take deep offense to this. So, it’s time to get a little more aggressive.
What would be the best way to get excommunicated? I was thinking of approaching the altar during mass smoking a J and wearing a Planned Parenthood T-shirt, and then pissing in the communion cup. Any other suggestions?

It sounds like you believe he has the authority too.
I believe blasphemy is the only unforgivable sin…all you really have to do is state that you deny the holy spirit. Not sure if that will get you excommunicated though, i’m not exactly sure they do actual excommunications anymore for any random person.

Walk into Church with a portable stereo and blast some black metal while wearing a Gorgoroth shirt that is full of unholy imagery. Then fall onto your knees and declare your love for Satan.
Are you in a country where religious affiliation is officially recognized?

They might tie him up and try to perform an exorcism on him if he did that.

Who cares?
It would be funny as shit to hear about on the news!
Didn’t all this excommunication crap become obsolete in the Middle Ages?
Maybe not. Buggering boys in church has been a religious ritual for centuries. Just because it’s been illegal here for the past 100 years didn’t stop the priests from seperating church from state.
Just don’t go to church which is certainly just fine and your choice as it is any person’s choice. The Catholic Church views people who are baptized Catholics as always sort of being Catholic unless you convert to another faith. I am perfectly happy with being a Catholic myself, but if you do not want it, more power to you. Everyone has free will and you are just exercising yours.
But in the end, what do you care what the Church thinks about you? I could sit here and consider you a Catholic, but does it matter what I think or what anyone else thinks? Looking for a way to get formally “kicked out the club” does not really do anything for you anyway. I am guessing you are not intending it this way, but it comes off as awfully “Look at me! Look at me! I do not need you any more!”
Just walk away from the Church and find a faith or belief that works best for you.
