Best Training Scenes In Movies

As a kid I always loved the No Retreat No Surrender training scene. Van Damme makes his first or one of his first appearances. He’s the bad guy in that one.

Training Scene 1 when Bruce Lee’s ghost trains him
Training Scene 2 when he’s ‘the man’[/quote]

My god, 43 seconds into Scene 2 has to be the most ambiguously gay scene in movie history!

Kill Bill.

The Bride with the old guy. Hitting that board.

Its a small part, but in Batman Begins, when Christian Bale falls into pushup position from standing and just starts banging them out, its just a cool thing to do.

One that comes to mind was with Billy Blanks (the Tae-Bo guy) where he was a highschool janitor and he was training some kid to fight in MMA-style arena matches. I think it was Showdown…

I also liked the fight montages in Kickboxer and Bloodsport as well…Van Damme kicks ass…

Although I haven’t seen it in like 10 years, I seem to remember the training scenes in Gymkata were pretty good.

Hey, nobody said it had to be a GOOD movie.

“Stay Hungry” You remember the one with Schwarzenegger, Jeff Bridges and Sally Fields? Come on, Ahnold won a Golden Globe for that role.

Couldn’t find a link to it but the movie, ‘Youngblood’ has a pretty sweet training montage.

Oh, and it happens to be one of the best hockey movies ever made.

Keanu Reeves as the French-Canadian goalie. Brilliant.

So, in a nutshell, Rob Lowe is a “can’t miss” prospect invited to a major-junior camp “…up there, in Canada” who has to fight for the first time and gets his ass handed to him by the resident goon. He loses the fight, loses his girl, quits the team, and goes home…

For the training montage!

After an inspirational speech from his older brother (basically reaming him out for quitting), Rob trains hard. Weights, music, drills, heavy bag, and even a little jersey-pullin’ wrasslin’ match with the old man. Yep, his Dad teaches him how to fight on skates, and then he’s ready for the comeback to lead the team in the play-offs, nail his girlfriend again, and beat the shit out of said goon in the movie’s climax.

Sweet movie. I was a kid when I first saw it. And it has Patrick Swayze in it, how can you go wrong?

He’s no Eric Roberts, “Pop it Tommy! Pop it!” in Best of the Best, but not all of us are that gifted dramatically.

Great thread by the way! These movies are fun to think about.

“Starting Defense! Place at the table!”

Not to sound like a perv, but that movie also has one of the best, erm…“love” scenes ever, as well :-). Just throw the mattress down on the floor right beside the fire and go for it; my gf and I used to do that all the time. Fun stuff…
