American Pie is probably the best, followed closely by I Love You Period by Dan Baird & I can’t think of any more right now.
The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key is the greatest one-hit wonder.
Good read on the Dan Baird song. Every now and then a song comes on the radio that causes one to beat the shit out of his dashboard. You gotta admit that Rock-n-Roll Hoochie Koo sort of fits in the category.
I think Dan Baird has to be disqualified, as he was in the Georgia Satelites first, and they had two albums. My nomination is Soft Cell, for Tainted Love.
All hail in basking glow of Vanilla Ice. Truly the greatest one hit wonder ever. He’s my hero.
I just remembered 99 Red Balloons by Goldfinger or Nena. Not in the same league as American Pie though.
Dan Hill – Sometimes When We Touch. Or just try this website (categories by decade): www.onehitwondercentral.com
I seem to remember "Starry, Starry Night and one or two others by Don.
Don McLean had a few other songs like Vincent and Starry Starry night so may not qualify, My Sharonna by The Knack takes a bit of beating.
Bertha Butt Boogie (?), Green Tambourine (?). Had to get in the WAY-Back machine for those two. Dusty in here. Brandy by Looking Glass, In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry, Black Betty from Ram Jam and Put the Lime in the Coconut by Practicle Magic. Too many AM memories to name a “best”.
