That damn near brings a tear to my eye ID. Reminds me of my Mother, played Coltrane all the time doing crossword puzzles.

I grew up listening to Jazz and have tried to embrace it but it just don’t do it for me, some is allright(slow tempo with singing) but most(up tempo) sounds like scales to my ears. My parents jazz album collection was primo and I had access to the best. It’s too bad cause I feel I’m missing out on some great music. Buddy Rich was bad ass though…and apparently a total asshole to fans.

The first time I saw that clip (as a kid), it has SUCH an impact on me that it made me realize the raw power of music, and especially the guitar as not just an instrument, but a tool, a weapon, and an extension of the man behind it. Effin’ goosebumps!

Since then, I’ve seen bands cover it numerous times, but NONE come close to Hendrix’s raw emotional rendition.
