I was planning to retire the old 870 for an A300 this teal season, but have encountered an extremely annoying issue.
After breaking the gun down to clean the packing grime, oiling and reconstructing… the fucking bolt won’t close. It’s like the entire bolt mechanism is frozen in a locked open position. Trigger is freely pulling.
I followed the manual to a T, and have tried reassembling from scratch two times with YouTube videos.
Has anyone encountered this with a fix?
I’m hoping I’m just missing some dumbass thing and that I don’t have a lemon out of the box from Beretta, even if it is their marsh gun.
That is a very common problem with all the models in the 300-series, and it is very easy to correct, once you know the secret. What happens is, it looks like you put the bolt in straight, but it actually went into the receiver cocked slightly to one side. Pull the bolt forward just enough to clear the front of the receiver.
With the bolt laying on the magazine tube, turn the whole bolt slightly counter-clockwise (from the shooter’s point of view) and put it back in.
Also check to see if you put the “connecting rod”, in upside down. If you had it concave side down, it will only go partially into the recoil spring guide.
I have A LOT of experience with disassembling and reassembling Beretta’s and Beneli’s.
