Begin...The Rest is Easy

Dark chocolate is the standard post dinner treat.

Ice cream was because I created a series of excuses and because I love it. I was also in a serious caloric deficit at that point, so wasn’t too worried about it. Still working on balancing my very high (for me) activity levels and my caloric intake, been having fewer of the late night binges but definitely still a WIP

I hear you about WIP. Reason I ask is that ice cream is my absolute favorite and I haven’t eaten it in over a year now. If I need the calories or something sweet I just mix flavored protein powder with Greek yogurt and make my own high protein low fat pudding. I do allow myself 2 squares of dark chocolate every now and then because well it is yummy and has some health benefits (I’ll keep telling myself that).

No judgment mate and really just wanted to hear more about the ice cream…LOL

Vanilla base, Carmel swirls, Carmel chunks from a local university dairy. Fantastic stuff, glad it doesn’t come in sizes larger than pints!

Why is the sky blue?

Why is water wet?

Something to do with the gasses in the atmosphere acting as a prism and splitting the light as it passes through, blue is scattered more because it has shorter waves.

I think water is wet but to it being a liquid. Feels water than some other liquids due to low viscosity. It’s all those loose molecules that are to blame.

@raven78 Appreciate you dropping in and providing some encouragement!

@FlatsFarmer and @simo74 laughed at both of your comments

Trip was all the way in the SF area which takes forever to get to from my place, even with an optimal schedule. Got upgraded to comfort+ for both long legs of the flight and first class for the short legs, so my normal amount of leg pain isn’t as present which is nice but still exhausted. Hung out with a friend in the city the first night and day, got a little wilder than I expected (and I expected pretty wild lol) but it was good seeing her. Went over to the east bay for the rest of the time which was calmer but still quite a bit of drinking. Managed to get a concert (which was hilarious and fun for a variety of reasons but not great for music) in, 18 holes of disk golf, lots of walking, a few hours of pickleball and a lot of pool (basket|volley)ball. A friend gave me a bunch of disks so I am going to try out one of the local places this week sometime.

Overall, really fun trip with a lot of good times, friends, and food. Glad to be back to normalcy for a bit before heading to Chicago in a few weekends. Sometimes I think I schedule too much for myself haha

Got up at like 5:30 this morning after falling asleep after midnight, stomach is in turmoil and I am pretty dead but got in a bike ride.

45 min power zone endurance peloton @ 153 watts

Same ride as my previous one last week, went a bit easier intentionally, felt much better than expected my hip is being a grump though so I’ll do some stretching and maybe some band work tonight. I ordered a strap HR monitor for my rides and it came today but I forgot to use it…

Sounds like a good time dude- care to elaborate on the funny concert? I’m very curious, haha.

There’s a couple of hilarious bits but the start of it is a friend of mine (we’ll call him Matt) realized I saw Better Than Ezra years before him, so like every other year for the last decade he’s texted me random locations (like Biloxi, MS) and they are always where BTE is playing. This year I finally decided to go, have a bunch of friends in the bay area and want to make them miserable so suggest Modesto (hot, middle of nowhere) but get overruled, so we end up in Napa. So Matt buys tickets for us and a bunch of our friends. About a week after he buys them I realize that BTE is opening for Train and one of our friends (Chris) is passionate about his hatred for Train.

Fortunately Chris mostly just lets life pass him by and goes with the flow, so like 6 of us agree that we won’t tell him it’s a Train concert. We all drive up to Napa, Chris is in the other car so a few of our friends play Meet Virginia, the only Train song he likes, to set the mood. Apparently another friend asks “Is Train your least favorite band” to which Chris replies, “No, I just hate all of their music” lol. Anyway, we sit at a market outside of the venue and drink for like an hour, all but the 2 sober people are pretty not sober at this point.

Still has no idea at this point as we start meandering in towards the venue. We get stopped at a stoplight and some lady a few people in front of us is like “which direction is the Train concert.” One of our friends is like, “whoa what did she say?” Chris is like, “I think she’s confused, some dumb shit, I don’t know.” We make it into the venue before BTE starts and it’s pretty empty, there are literally no signs about who is playing and we avoid the merch tent. Like 15 minutes into BTE’s set he is like “That person has a Train shirt on”, like 5 min later “he’s like those are hey soul sister shirts.” We get up to get another drink and I walk to the merch tent with the girl who overruled me and made me go to Napa (I agreed on the condition of a free shirt), Chris tags along. He is like “whoa, did Train open for them or something.” The girl and I are like yea, must’ve been that. Mind you it is like 7:30 and still light outside, no idea how his brain works lol.

A bunch of other clues present themselves but he is mostly just angry at BTE for only playing half of their songs and half random ass covers, they literally closed with Tiny Dancer by Elton John, covered INXS, played Collide by Howie day. Super random and confusing set. At the end of Tiny Dancer the lead singer is like, “I can’t believe after opening for Train 20 years ago we get to open for them tonight.” At which point Chris is like “fuck” and just kind of stares around for a few minutes. He took it well though and the rest of the concert was reliving the hilarity and singing loudly to his least favorite songs.

Different story but Matt, the actual BTE fan, also forced me to go to then immediately abandoned me in the merch/meet-the-lead-singer line when some girl came up to talk to/hit on me. The lead singer bailed early on the same line and we couldn’t get Matt’s attention so he ended up missing meeting him but I snagged a photo with the singer lol.

Music was pretty awful, had an absolutely amazing time though.

Loved reading this story and made me miss my old mates from the UK. This sounds like something they would do.

Lol awesome. I have to side with your friend on this one. Train could not exist at all and I would be totally ok with that. But, unlike your friend, meet Virginia has been beaten into my brain by the drummer from the band I was in. Dude absolutely loved that song, and now covers it in his new band and I just can’t stand it.

Sounds like an amazing time!!!

The girl that was hitting on me said she was there by herself to see Train. :triangular_flag_on_post:

I genuinely like that song and that still sounds horrific.

Understand that, only lived abroad for a 4ish years but the old ones can be the best ones

Back at it, took yesterday off after some bad sleep and bad digestion. Woke up feeling like an especially snoozy zombie but managed to have a pretty active day.

Peloton 30 min @ 175 watts

Shoulder kb workout while grilling

Lateral raises: 2 x 10
Front raises: 2 x 10
Overhead extension: 2 x 10
Overhead press: 2 x 20
Overhead hold while walking: 50 paces
High row: 2 x 15

Not a lot of lifting but got some good stability work and then a bit of obliques/abs in.

Peloton was rough, legs didn’t want to push but made it through 2 8 min zone 3/4 efforts. Will get in an easy longer ride tomorrow or Friday.

Assuming weight will be more or less static from last week, started turning the dial a bit to get the cut moving but fighting off the decisions of last week still.

I’ve been exhausted since I returned from my trip, sleep was decent last night but I’m still just barely going through the motions. Hopefully I’ll start getting some energy in the coming days. Legs were also unexpectedly dead yesterday and took forever to drive today.

Weekly weight update:
256.4 for a loss of .6 lbs over the last week (8days), honestly completely happy with this given what last week was. Going to try to knock off a pound or more this week then that following weekend I’m going to be eating Italian beef like it was my job so probably not dropping there. In any case, down 4.2lbs over 3 weeks, still on a good pace.

So jealous right now. Italians know how to beef. Really all the meat.

As in literally beef that came from Italy ? I don’t recall seeing a whole lot of cattle farms in Italy when I went there, but it was 30+ years ago.

I went about a decade ago and didn’t see any either but I don’t expect urban Rome to have many, ha.

In any case, it’s a style of sandwich. A recently popular show based in Chicago (The Bear on Hulu), featured them heavily in the first season. I’m headed there the first weekend in August, so going to have to partake. I assume, but don’t actually know, that like all things “Italian” in America it isn’t all that Italian.

That makes a lot more sense.
