Bailed on the vacation one day early, supposed to snow 6” +/- a few in Philly, really didn’t want to try and navigate that this evening or tomorrow. Would’ve liked another day but it’s only 4 hours away and I didn’t want to deal with the stress. Philly is a pretty fun city, had solid food (including a good duck confit) and drank a bit too much but within reason. Saw 3/4 of an awful basketball game and walked 20k+ steps.

Was feeling stiff and lethargic so went to the gym quickly and did a little back work, plan on doing a bit more tonight but I might run out of steam, 3 hours of driving in the snow wore me out.

Straight arm pulldown: 70 3x10
Prowler: 180 x 6 (pull there, push back ~50-60 feet each way)
Lat pulldown: 240 3 x 8
BB row: 225 3x8

Will start my FSL block tomorrow with squats

Dang, brief trip. I’d love to go to Philly one day even though it seems like most people aren’t big fans.

Yea, shorter than I would’ve liked. Was planning on going to the art museum today but skipped that, ended up seeing quite a bit of cool stuff though. I really liked the city, it’s got a unique oldness to it that I haven’t seen in the US. We walked 3.5 miles through south Philly to the basketball stadium yesterday, so many cool tidbits. I love learning a city that way

My favorite as well. It can be exhausting but so worth it. I do this even if I already know a city well. I love knowing how to navigate cities like the back of my hand.

I’d argue the Liberty Bell is the least skippable thing followed by cheesesteaks, in Philly. I did want to go though, I have 3.5 more years here though so I’m positive I’ll be back.

It’s so comforting, the part of the city I was in was on a grid so it only took a few small walks to get used to it. One thing I dislike about where I am now is that absolutely nothing is walkable, not having a car in Seattle was a dream. One day I’ll live in my city/rural hybrid, somehow.

I don’t know much about Philly besides the cheesesteaks and the LOVE sign. It fascinates me how there are so many cool cities so close to each other up there.

I went to Seattle once, and the transit was decent for sure. I’d love to visit again. I have still made a carless lifestyle work in unwalkable places, though it is a hassle sometimes.

It’s weird, growing up in the middle of the desert is certainly much different. I’ve been to Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Philly and Nyc since I’ve been here. Will make it to Boston, Baltimore and a few places in NE (want to check out Portland) at some point.

I lived centrally in Seattle and had friends who had vehicles, made it super easy. I could’ve avoided buying a car here but would’ve been inconvenienced a few times a day, decided it wasn’t worth it. Sometimes I doubt that decision given how fing expensive a new car is but I’m locked in now. What’s your ideal setting?

20 min peloton @ 110 watts
100 pushups
10 min lower stretching

I don’t know how I’ll do my conditioning exactly but I’m probably going to a decent amount on the Peloton and at least one prowler session a week. Easy conditioning is < 125 on the peloton and hard is >= 150, might be some variance as I continue to grow stronger but those are the general goals. Jumps when working out from home, throws and jumps at the gym.

Yeah, I can imagine that. It’s not worth the hassle sometimes. I hope I don’t live in a place where I have to own a car because it’s honestly freeing to not have one.

I’m a big city person 100%. The suburbs are suffocating to me. But I also love nature, so that can be a dilemma!

I’m not a huge fan of big cities, but Boston was extremely fun the two times I went. I highly recommend taking a few days to explore it.

It really is, I’m trying to pay mine off by the time I leave Ithaca so I can either sell it or at least be free of a car payment.

With you there, I grew up in suburbia and don’t want to do that again. You get neither the convenience of city living nor the immediate access to nature. Seattle is great for city + nature, quite a few big green spaces in the city and tons of other access in the area. Just so expensive.

I definitely want to check it out, I have some friends who lived close by that go pretty regularly, will probably jump on their bandwagon. Partner did a yearlong internship there and hated it, she’s willing to go back but isn’t excited about it. Her opinion is largely informed by working 70-80 hours a week for poverty wages so I get it but still lol

Haha yeah man I can see how that would skew her opinion of the place. Can’t imagine finding a place to live and thriving on low wages there. Big props to her for getting through something like that.

I went with my wife both times, visiting some relatives and friends. They knew all the good spots to see.

A quick story though- we were in Beacon Hills (oldest district, still has cobblestone streets and gas lamps) just walking around. We came up on a house that was being remodeled and the front door was open… We were being nosy and loud, so some dude walked up to the door inside and started talking to us. He ended up being the owner just checking in on the contractors and invited us in to take a tour of the place. If I’m remembering correctly he had paid something like 5 million for the house and was putting another 2 million into it. It was one of the most insane houses I’ve ever been in.

He grew up in the city I live in and he ended up giving us his business card, I think he was a lawyer or something. Like I could ever afford him as a lawyer?

Pretty much everyone I know here has a car, and it astounds me how much less money I would save by paying for gas, insurance, and potentially parking, not to mention if I needed a loan. Plus I don’t have to worry about vehicle hijacking lol

Same. My hometown is the worst. I think I would rather live in the middle of nowhere than in the suburbs.

Re: Boston, I have a friend who recently moved away from there after college and was extremely glad to do so. Not quite sure why she didn’t like it so much, but the cost of living is outrageous of course.

Then it seems like people have a love-hate relationship with NYC, which doesn’t surprise me.

Yup, I’m not sure I could ever live in or near Seattle, Bay Area, NYC, or Boston. Finances sound too stressful. Seattle is nice though!

Lol I know nothing about the area but 7 million for a house makes my brain hurt.

He’d probably represent you as part of a class action where his firm gets 70% of the money and the 3 million victims get a snickers and a sticker.

I didn’t know her at that point but her willingness to work through shitty situations is pretty remarkable

I parked in a garage, near a hospital in a relatively nice area of Philly, was worried my car would be broken into the whole time lol

Yea, it’s pretty tough to get ahead, once my partner passes her boards we’d be able to afford those places (save maybe downtown SF or nicer parts of Manhattan) but I’d rather retire by 45 than live somewhere that expensive. Partner is from Denver which is kind of middle expensive, I need to check it out but it seems viable, in my imagination lol

Going to wait until tomorrow to start the block, I regularly have some pain/discomfort in my lower left back but it is usually dull. Today I’m getting some sharp shots of pain in the area, it’s not new but it hasn’t flared up for awhile so I figure I should probably just wait a day or two. Will try and stretch out to see if that helps but I suspect it’s not going to do much.

Didn’t want to do nothing today, it was fucking cold (topped out at 10 with real feel at -9) so I didn’t do a ton of walking (7k steps), ended up hitting pushups.

To steal @T3hPwnisher’s idea I named my workout.

“Forbidden”
403 pushups

Did them over roughly 4 hours, forbidden is in reference to the 403 HTTP status code.

Going to do some stretching before bed and a lot of mobility work before squats tomorrow.

Jumps felt explosive but weird, landed in a good place to jump again probably half of the time. Squats felt great, was hitting the quads more than the posterior which is my preferred way to squat. Had a few more in me for the top set but wanted to leave something in the tank for the FSL work, think I probably got it just about right. Just did simple assistance work.

Will hit press and the prowler tomorrow.
