Begin...The Rest is Easy

FWIW progress isn’t usually linear. I stalled for a year before getting my current burst of momentum. What does your training look like at the moment?

My lack of progress is entirely self inflicted. I’m more working out than training at this point, I’ll probably lock it down to start next year and actually make some progress but I mostly just dicked around this year.

Life happens brother. Maintaining is better than most people do. Kinda deloads everything and gives it a chance to recover too so when we’ll be more ready than ever to push when the time comes.

Are 4/5/600 still the goals for you?

Yee, think bench is feasible with 3-6 months of focus, squat 6-9 and deadlift is probably a year out or more.

Got an hour long lunchtime walk in, the snow is gone the muck is not.

Re-configured my gym setup, put the trap bar away, moved the barbell to the deadlift area, and put the axle in the bench spot. Then got in a back workout, not a lot worth noting except that I’ve done actual barbell deads maybe 3 times in the last year, so I just did a bunch of sets of 5 with 225. Felt awkward but not weak, will take a few weeks to normalize I’m sure.

The bench is the most impressive I reckon… at least coming from my POV (poverty bench)

If we combined genetics and strengths we’d be a decent powerlifter, also weird looking.

Shoulders today

1 mile walk
Seated DB: 25 x 10, 45 x 5, 65 x 5, 75 3x10
Lateral raises: 25 3x8
Upright smith row: 65 x 10 (close grip, medium, wide as a super set) 95 x 8 (same pattern)
Face pulls: 60 3x10

Short and sweet, pressing felt good, the Smith upright rows are obviously not quite that heavy because the bar isn’t 45 but it makes record keeping easier. Going to get a good squat session in this weekend

Drank too much Friday so took it easy yesterday, got in about 8k steps but nothing else. Stomach was a bit off still today but walked 3+ Miles to get a coffee and bagel sandwich this morning then walked back, hit the store then hit my legs pretty hard.

5 min warmup walk
Shoulder warmup, 5 neutral pull-ups (getting much easier), goblet squats
Duffalo squat: 105 x 5, 145 x 5, 195 x 5, 235 x 5, 285 x 3, 325 x 3, 355 x 3, 375 x 3 (biggest grind in a while), 235 x 10
Belt squat: 70 x 10, 120 2 x 10
RDL: 115 x 10, 205 x 5, 255 3x5

The combination of high intensity squats, being underfed for the day, 18k steps, and an off stomach made this pretty rough but also served as a nice reminder that I can push a bit harder and be fine. I’m squatting highish bar again and my hips and low back feel way better and I actually hit depth, going to stick with it while my knees let me. Will probably do some axle bench tomorrow at home.

Idk why but I love doing stuff like this. It makes the food taste better and I always feel so refreshed and happy

Absolutely, woke up like the grinch before heart growth, made it to the bagel place crushed a bacon, sausage, egg, and hash brown rosemary bagel, left feeling like a champ.

Slept like shit last night, had an annoying day at work so I just got the bare minimum done.

Shoulder warmup
Axle bench: 120 x 10, 170 x 5, 210 x 5, 260 2x5, 1x12
Tricep pulldowns: 35 2x15
Tricep SA band extensions: 3x10
Band SA chest flies: 3x10

Figured I start recording things again as a motivational tool. Maybe done an axle bench once or twice before this but think that was the heaviest I’ve touched. It’s weird, the lack of rotation makes stabilization hard especially when considering gripping is already compromised by the large diameter. I’m not sure why it would make sense but my triceps are fried. Seems like it will be a fun twist for a while and a new challenge.

Peloton was supposed to be delivered today but it isn’t going to be, not sure why but hopefully it will come soon. Was planning on giving a test run for conditioning but just went to the gym instead.

28ish min walk, ~3.5 mph and 3.5 incline
Prowler about 50 feet each way, total of 10 laps (100’) 4 x 150, 6 x 195
Calves: 4x20 90lbs

Haven’t done hard conditioning in forever, felt like my lungs and heart were going to burst, definitely need to keep doing something along these lines.

Sometime around August I set a goal of getting 3 million steps for the year, I wasn’t quite on pace to do it at the time but I hit it today, good way to show that activity has increased in the latter half of the year. Will plan on doing something similar, probably more bike centric for next year.

Took yesterday off, went to the doctor which took longer than expected and went and saw a concert. Doctor said everything looked good, going to get bloodwork done in a few weeks to confirm that. Also have a quick therapy session scheduled for next week, that the doctor helped coordinate, likely will lead to some medication being prescribed for better or worse. Concert was more fun than expected, the opener was super annoying and not very good but Shakey Graves, who I don’t really care about, put on a very good show!

Got in a quick gym session to breakup the day, planning on deadlifting when I finish work.

20 min incline walk
Low cable row: 100 x 10, 120 x 10, 130 x 8, 140 x 6
Lat pulldown: 100 x 10, 110 x 10, 120 x 8, 130 x 6
Back extensions: 3 x 10

Going to drive a few hours tomorrow to go see some dogs at a shelter, seems likely we’ll go home with one. We aren’t decided on anything yet but there are 3 we like, one of which is a 4 month old puppy, which would be fun but exhausting.

Took a 3ish mile walk then banged out a few deadlifts.

DL: 135 2x5, 225 x 5, 275 3x5
Hammer rope curls: 35 3x10
Band curls: 3x10

The straight bar is still teaching me lessons, imagine it will be for awhile, each set felt better though, going to try and progress slowly here so I don’t burn out mentally or physically

She’s a cutie! Got her from a rescue that was directly in the center of nowhere, she’s only 4ish months but is pretty independent and calm already. My partner got up an hour before me this morning to take her for a walk. by the time I strolled upstairs she had forgotten me and gave me a growl for about 5 seconds before remembering me, which lead to much jumping and running about

Any idea what kinds of dog she is?
