Begin...The Rest is Easy

Solid plan and there are some great options in RMNP. Also, maybe just take a quick drive down to Boulder, there is excellent hiking there. Mt Sanitas, South Boulder Peak, Green Mountain, Bear Peak - and if you’re really up for a challenge, do the Skyline Traverse. It hits all of those and tags Flagstaff Mountain in one go. I’ve done it three times in my life and it never fails to be an epic adventure. Lol.

I am so down for that! My best friend lives near Boulder and I’m planning to come back late summer/early fall!

You look like you’ve been training in prison.

Looking great dude!

I did this one last fall/late summer, was hot and the stretch before you get out of the trees was pretty tough but it was fun. Think I could manage the Skyline now but will likely build up to it/make sure all parties have sufficient water before departing this time lol.

Nice, there’s a chance i’m out of town but let me know!

Did one 5.5ish mile hike while on vacation and sat in too warm water for awhile, hike had a pretty quick ~750 climb out of the rio grande canyon onto some pretty flat plains then a slow descent back down. Was pretty.

Came down with a cold yesterday as I got back home but it seems to be okay with some dayquil today, hopefully continues progressing.

Shoulders:

Machine lateral: 110, 130 x 12, 150 x 16 (11+5)

Rear delt fly: 70, 90, 110 x 15

Side bends: 45 2 x 10

Machine crunch: 155 3 x 12

Stairmaster: 704’ feet in 16:02

Slept way too little, two days away from work and we nearly lost a large client because the reorganization of teams was done in a shit fashion. Was fun to come back to that yesterday, almost have my head above water again.

Lungs and heart seemed to be working hard on the stairmaster but given I just had a cold I’m not all that surprised.

Might get some more shoulders in with the kettlebells and dumbbells if I have the energy

Peloton (yesterday):
45 min @ 172 watts

Switched between zones 2 and 3, first 20 minutes sucked but felt better in the second half. Legs were unexpectedly sore for this, will likely be expectedly sore for the next one.

Cardio felt better than expected especially since I had nearly caffeinated myself to a heart attack during the day.

Not sure if i’ll just do another peloton today or if I will have time to sneak into the gym.

Have a 4-5 hour a week cardio goal bouncing around my brain.
Basic thought is to count everything but dog walking.
Something like:
3 hours bike/peloton
60 min incline walk/jog
30-60 min stairmaster

Ideally i would hit most of that time outdoors and not do those things, if i don’t drive to some thing with friends 2 states over this weekend i’ll get a hike in around here.

Didn’t have/make time for the gym

Peloton 45 min @ 186

Garage was warmer than ideal and didn’t do only zone 2/3 so the output was higher. Didn’t feel great, didn’t feel terrible.

Gym tomorrow

Yesterday:

Back. Did a row, a pulldown, and an extension then 25 min incline walking

Today:

Chest/tris:
Tri pulldown: 42.5 2 x 10, 50 x 10
Face pulls: same

Dips: 2 x 10

Abflexor: 30, 40 x 15. 50, 60 x 10

Incline db bench: 60, 75, 90 x 10, 110 x 6

Tri overhead: 35, 45 x 15

Felt better in the gym than I have in awhile. Had more at 110 but not a ton more.

Probably get some cardio in later might just plan a hike for tomorrow instead

Did a bit under 7 miles of hiking yesterday, on the easier side of moderate but still enough to create some fatigue. Climbed almost 1600’ in total but most of it was pretty gradual.

Legs today:
Abduction: 90 2 x 12
Adduction: same

Ham tractor (single leg): 135, 150, 165 x 10

Hack squat: 90, 180, 270 x 8, 360, 405 x 6, 450 x 10

RDL (pit shark): 90 x 10, 270 2 x 6, 1 x 10

Stairmaster: 60 min, 2236’ climbed

That last hack squat set sucked, hard. Doubt I’ve hit that many reps at that weight, good stuff.

Legs shaking going into RDL, dead after.

Not sure what inspired the masochism of an hour on the stairmaster but it happened. First min at level 5, did the rest at 6. Soaking wet but didn’t push too hard

Cruel and unusual. Lol. If you ever find yourself in Colorado Springs, you’ve got to do the Incline on Pike’s Peak. It’s nature’s StairMaster.

Ive heard of it and I think ive seen you mention around here.

After looking it up, I may never visit Colorado Springs :upside_down_face:

Legs are both dead and sore

Shoulders:
Machine lateral (diff machine): 110 3 x 8, 1 x 10

Rear delt fly: 110 3 x 12

Standing db press: 25, 40, 50 x 10

Machine crunch: 110, 125 x 20, 140, 155 x 15

Upright row: 30, 70, 70 x 10
Face pull (SA): ? 2 x 10

Didn’t push anything very hard but don’t have a lot to push hard with at the moment. Will probably take a few walks today but going to give the body a bit of time to recover

LOL!! That is hilarious. But seriously, it is such a great workout.

Arms/back
Seated incline curl: 20,25 x 6, 30 x 10

Db rows: 70,90 x 8 105 x 12
Hammer curl: 25 3 x 10

Straight arm pulldown: 45 2 x 10, 1 x 15
Cable curl: 45 2 x 8, 30 x 16 (last few weren’t great reps)

Back extension: 10, 15, 15

Neutral pulldown: 140 x 23

My left shoulder is being a bit annoying lately, probably a consequence of the separation in November, will have to focus more on working on that before it gets worse. Overhead back work is currently uncomfortable with a pronated grip, felt it a bit in the incline curls too

Peloton 60 min @ 138 watts

Right at the bottom of zone 2, read for the first 50 minutes, paid more attention the last 10

Today:

Chest/tris

Machine fly: 20, 70, 90, 110 x 10

Bb bench: 135, 185, 225 x 10, 275 x 9

Abflexor: 40, 50, 60 x 10

Tri pulldown: 35 2 x 15
Facepulls: same

Tri overhead machine: 105, 135, 165 x 10, 90 x 16

Might’ve been able to eek out a 10th on bench but shoulder was feeling a bit weird and the safeties weren’t in a good spot, played it safe. Last set of triceps was rough.

Not sure I’ll do anything else today besides walk but may ride the bike. Need to get back to taking care of my shoulder, that bench probably wasn’t smart

Making an effort to not binge in the night, been floating around 271 the last week or so, which means I’ve put 5+ back on. Should be able to shed that in a few weeks with a modicum of discipline l

Friday evening:

Peloton 45min @ 172

Was harder on the legs than it should’ve been, probably just unrecovered, bought some whey because my diet is chaos right now, can at least push it in the right direction.

Yesterday:
Went to a friends place and worked out at his APT gym (which was reasonably decent), hit some shoulders, traps, abs and did 30ish pullups.

Today:
Played pickleball with the wife for a while, not super active but moving.
Yard work for most of the day and made chicken parm to balance out that caloric burn (modicum of discipline incoming).

15k+ steps the last two days.

See how tired i am tomorrow, might get an easy leg day in.

Abduction: same

SL hamtractor: 105, 135, 150 x 10

SL squat pro: 90, 135, 160 x 10
Split squats: 25 2 x 10

Back extension: 2 x 10, 1 x 20

Slow start to the day, didn’t have time for more than this. Planning on getting a leg-flushing peloton done this afternoon. A bit stiff from the yardwork but feeling pretty good

Peloton 60 min @ 159

Zone 2 for the whole thing except the warmup, felt decent, think I need to move my seat back

Today:

Back/bis

Incline curl: 25 2 x 6, 1 x 10
Db row: 55,70,85,100 x 8

Back extension (GHR): 3 x 10
Side bends: 60 2 x 10

Hammer curls: 30, 35, 40 x 8

Neutral cable row: 100,160, 180 x 10

Plate loaded preacher: 45 x 25 (17,8)

Incline walk: 25 min

Decent enough workout, felt the back firing well on all movements, left side is a bit stiff and grumpy but trending in the right direction. Feeling good for a push to the finish of the transformation, will be about the only pushing I’ve done for this iteration

Not the most comprehensive leg day but pushed the movements I did somewhat hard. Should be enough for a little growth. Hoping to hike one day this weekend
