Here’s 445 x1, I wedged myself into the bar better for 455 which made it a bit easier and more stable but very similar overall to this lift. Hardest part is about 40% of the way up through the lift

Was planning on benching today but woke up at like 5am (few hours before expected) with a headache and snot pouring from my nose. I doubt it’s COVID but I went and got tested this afternoon and am going to delay going to the gym until I get my results back. I went to a bar on Friday and hung out with some people after, so my exposure was a bit higher than normal. In any case, hopefully I’m fine.

Been looking at more Titan stuff, its way cheaper than Rogue or EliteFTs and it looks like I could have a decent setup by Christmas, if I go that route. Somewhat tangentially related, I am really tired of my job but it’s super secure and pays me well enough that I can afford this stuff, so I don’t think I’ll quit. If i spend a few thousand on this stuff I definitely won’t for the next few months, at least. I’m also somewhat concerned about buying the rack and everything living in Seattle, I’m currently renting a townhouse with my gf but only have a lease until July of next year. I have 0 idea if I’ll be able to extend the lease and if I don’t, the chances of getting another townhouse around this rate (sub 3k), in this area are low. Ideally I would just get a fully remote job and fuck off to Montana but that’s still something of a pipe dream at this point, especially since my gf is thinking about doing a residency in veterinary radiology which could move us anywhere from Fort Collins, CO to wherever in NY Cornell is to buttfuck, Missouri. Moving all of this across the country seems like a PITA, as well. It seems smarter to wait til I’ve settled somewhere to invest the time and money to do it right. Plus, I like going to the gym. Long story short, I don’t know what I want to do.

Living in Ithaca sounds depressing as hell. Exactly why I never bothered applying to Cornell…

You could just buy some solid squat stands in the interim and buy the rack later.

My old roommate went to Cornell undergrad and I’m not sure he said a positive thing plus being around Ivy Leaguers all the time is likely to drive me slightly more insane.

That’s not a bad idea and as GP pointed out earlier it’s not like I couldn’t just sell it. I’m leaning pretty hard towards biting the bullet at this point and doing it.

Let’s be real, Cornell is sort of the ugly stepchild of the Ivies and not without reason.

With the recent huge wave of cases in the USA, I would definitely be buying things while they’re still available if I were in your situation.

Yea that’s fair, the part public nature of it probably helps but I’ve never been so…

If I’m still convinced by tomorrow I’m going to grab 300+ lbs of weight, a bar, a rack/stand and a bench.

Ithaca is a gorgeous part of NY, lots of hiking and trails. Other than that, it’s pretty boring. I’ve spent a day or two there on occasion as it’s within driving distance from where I live, but I wouldn’t be able to live there.

It reminded me of a very, very boring asheville… kind of scummy, interesting people but not in the enchanting asheville sort of way. Never went to college there or anything so I’m not sure how that is though.

Question: have you asked whomever is leasing to you what their thoughts are? Surely, they too might find solace in knowing that part of their income is secure.

Nah, I haven’t. We never actually talk to the owner, a property management group takes care of the place. I doubt they are worried about security though as Seattle’s housing market is still pretty hard to get into. I also figure that if I don’t bolt it to the ground I don’t have to rent/buy a drill and the other requisite equipment and I also can tear it down and take it with me more easily

My Axle is supposed to be here this weekend! So excited, can do some cleans and pressing when it comes, never really used an axle before I imagine it’s going to be harder than expected.

So I’m negative for Covid which is a big relief and I finally slept more than a few hours, last night, but I’m still not feeling well. Have a cold or something, so I’m staying away from the gym and taking it as easy as possible. Feeling like a nap is coming on, which I would love. Rack is supposed to come the weekend of the 20th, which is faster than expected. Super excited.

Ship me some from Australia! I like the idea of juicing but my mind is already a bundle of anxiety and violent mood swings, might give it a go if I ever figure that shit out.

Made it back today, slept probably 6 hours last night which is better than most of the last 10 days but not great. I’ve been eating a ton of gluten and my stomach is pissed off because of it, need to clean up the diet this week.

Morning weight 294.6

Bench test.
Incline 90 x 10
BP: 135 x8, x5, 185 x3, 225 2x3, 275 x2, 315 2x1, 335 x 1, 365 x 1 (easy), 385 x 1 (pr + 10),
275 x 10
CGBP: 185 3x10

Deload definitely helped here, feeling 100% I might have 10-15 more in me, 385 was pretty grindy and the spotter touched it before I locked out but it was still moving well. Couple gym bros said “nice” and clapped a few times lol. The 275 was about 60 seconds after the max attempt so I was pretty happy with that.

Going to deadlift tomorrow, if I can hit 495 (shouldn’t be too hard) I’ll be at 1335.

Ate a ton yesterday and woke at a bloated 296 but slept like 9 hours last night!

DL test
DL: 135 2x5, 245 2x3, 355 2x2 (belt for 2nd), 405 1x2, 445 x1, 475 x1, 495 x1 (ties old pr)
GHR: 3x12
Neutral chins: 1x5, -70 2x10
Rope curls: 60 3x10

My DL definitely needs the most work, I might’ve been able to pull 20-30 more but I didn’t think it was worth a complete form failure, it was already somewhat sloppy at 495 (vid below). This adds 30lbs to my old total from maybe 4 years ago, think I still have a lot of room for quick gains. My axle is coming today, going to do some hang cleans, rows, and maybe curls when it arrives.

Still not 100% sure on what I’m doing next, feel like having a home gym (hopefully in the next two weeks) will change my training patterns pretty significantly, especially since I work from home.

What’s your programming like? 531 or something else? What are you open to? Anything you are curious to experiment with?

If I had a home gym and my goal was strength I’d experiment with what I think was singles at 80% spread throughout the day. Why? Because it aligns well with my strength is a skill belief.

It’s too old of a post for me to find now as I don’t have an Instagram account but it was on the thibarmy Instagram page (search for videos looking like someone is at home with a power rack to the left of the viewframe). If you find it the number of reps/day and the percentages were listed in the text. This was for squats and not deadlifts but…

I’ve been doing my own thing since the gym reopened in July, for the last 6 weeks prior to my deload I’ve been trying to go 5 days a week, with a 531-esque style.

Split was
Week 1
Off, Legs heavy, chest, off, Back, shoulders, legs light.
Week 2
Off, back heavy, chest, off, legs, shoulders, back light

Or at least that was the goal, every session had one of the big 4 or a variation thereof. Intensity varied from working up to heavy singles to doing more reps with some amraps in there. I would try to add a meaningful assistance lift each workout (incline, rows, rdl, etc) but wasn’t quite as consistent with those. Then I would hit some hypertrophy.

Goal was to bring up my legs and posterior chain, it worked well, but isn’t something that I can sustain year round, at this point, so I’m going to do something with less intensity, in all likelihood for my next block.

Just saw your edit and that appeals to me as well. I don’t think I’m anywhere near maximizing the amount of muscle I have on my frame in terms of strength. If improve my patterns/skill/efficiency I think I can add 30-50 lbs on my squat and deadlifts, easily.
