Still good here, but still buried in conference-related shenanigans. Getting in a fair amount of walking, at least relative to what I do at home, but that’s it.
It’s now been a week since I last picked up a barbell or did any kind of conditioning. I swear I’m experiencing growth, though, because I feel bigger now than when I left—at least in an un-pumped way ('cause you can’t beat that feeling during/after a great bodybuilding workout). If not bigger, than definitely not smaller, so that’s a win.
I think that’s some kind of known phenomenon (or experience, at least), and it probably has as much to do with seeing myself in unfamiliar surroundings (which I’ve commented on before), but I must say: I’m pleased.
But even so, I am ready to get going again, I’m ready to be done eating out, and I’m ready to be home. Friday can’t get here fast enough…
Edit: Oh, and I got two more “compliments” earlier this week: Of all the strangest things, my boss and I got to talking about lifting, and eventually it ended with him asking, “So you’ve always been buff?”
I actually hate that, because it overlooks the work I do—it’s effectively, “Oh, so you look this or that way because of genetics”—but I’m taking it as a compliment nonetheless.
Then a former-student-turned-colleague-and-friend who used to be a serious powerlifter and that I haven’t seen in a few years, said, “Yeah, you look great BTW. Are you still bodybuilding?”
Again, all of this has to be moderated against the crowd I’m interacting with at present—I’m not satisfied with being “above average” in a pool of today’s average—but I confess the powerlifter’s comments were a nice ego boost!
