mirin’ your avi
I’m a 6ft, solid, broad shouldered with a gut, 300lb highlander dark-haired Scotsman. I had a goatee for a long time, no stache just the beatnik tee. Last August I go laid-off. I let the beard grow. I was feeling antisocial for the most part and thanks to good genetics went from a full beard to epic war god beard quickly.
I noticed a couple things. First, those numb nuts or “bros” who I did not want to talk to but really wanted to talk tome, left me completely alone. I’m not the guy that sweats aggression out of every pour, but all of the sudden bros would clear a path for me. Big bonus there. I could get a squat rack open by looking at it.
Second, I am BFMWG, big funking married white guy. I have a gut, I often have gas, and I’m going grey. Girls don’t pay a lot of attention to me, however, with the epic war god beard, women did notice me–and when I noticed them noticing me, they kept right on noticing me. My wife’s friend summed it by saying (not in front of my wife) “you look like you’d take what you want, as soon as you want it, as often as you wanted it.”
Third, as much as I loved my epic war god beard, I am not financially independent yet, so I have to work for a living. After doing nothing but lifting, and growing my beard for months, I started looking for a job again. I trimmed the beard. I got a job with the beard, (I’m in recruiting where beards are not common, and now recruit in financial services where beards are basically taboo)but got so sick of trimming the damn thing day after day I shaved it all off.
I now wear a suit everyday. I have an epic war god inner beard.

I declare you all amatuers. I am over 40 and no razor has ever touched my beard.

I was being a little cute. Observant Jewish people do not “shave” with a razor – but can use scissors.
That said, I do have a full beard. I also wear a suit and tie, every day.
So whomever was using that as an excuse needs to relax.

obviously i took you literally. I can’t really blame you for not using razors, I hate them myself but what’s the religious significance??
I’ve had plenty of jobs that banned any sort of facial hair… it’s very unfortunate. IMO, all men should sport the beard. I see it as an extension of being a man.

Have you thought of growing your pubes really long, dieing them white and then wearing them on the outside of your zipper…tell everyone at your work that its a Sporran and they have to respect your cultural heritage.

I’ll cover it in the “Ask Moshe” thread. I don’t want to hijack this one.

Close enough. More thorough answer in the “Ask Moshe” thread. Re: your link, the Chabad shul in Brookline is amazingly cool about barely-observant Jewish people coming over. Very non-judgemental, and they used to have (years ago) an awesome male-only (during certain times) power lifting gym that was owned by a member that I could go to free as a poor college student.

Out of curiosity, as a ginger, which we all know have no souls, can your reflection be seen in a mirror?
Also, have gingers stopped eating children?
(In seriousness, Iceland is way cool. Awesome photos. I’d love to go there.)

Gingers do NOT eat children, but we do get a new freckle for every soul that we steal~
and yes, Gingers DO have a reflection and DO show up in pictures, but since we hate gingers (srsly, have you ever seen gingers hang out together?), we cant stand looking in a mirror, or looking at ourselves in pictures~
